You can't pick the Alive albums, so what's your favorite KISS studio album? I'll take Dressed to Kill.http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

I think Alive2 is their best studio albumhttp://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif

but if i had to pick a studio album that KISS considers a studio album, it would be either 'hotter than hell', or 'rock and roll over

I would have to go with either "Dressed To Kill" or "Destroyer". In an unrelated note, "Dressed To Kill" is my favourite cover.

Dressed to Kill was an awesome album, but I think I'd have to toss Revenge in there somewhere. Singer and Kulick really brought a lot to the band, I thought. "Take It Off" and "I Just Wanna" are VERY cool songs! Has anyone heard "Spit"? Can you say "Whole Lotta Love"? http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif

The only one I own. Revenge. Is that really a KISS record? I mean, it's not the original KISS... http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif

I admit I didn't buy this one; it was a gift from a radio station. But I honestly do like it. Some of it kicks ass. I don't care for GGRaRTY, but that's just me.

Pyscho Circus may have not been so much of a great album (although there are some great stuff on there, Ie: Ace's "Into The Void"), the production on the album and how it sounds is just amazing. It is very clear and has a great bottom end to it.

Carnival of Souls is a good album. Very heavy, but too alternative for KISS. Then agin, they've done absolutely everything else (pop, disco), so why not that.

High points on that CD are "Jungle" and "Master and Slave".

VV - everytime I see your name, somehow Vinnie Vincent pops into my head and since we are on the subject of KISS....how appropriate.

My favorite KISS studio albums:
Makeup: Destroyer
No Makeup: This is a toughie....Animalize,
Revenge or Carnival of Souls.

I have always thought that Carnival of Souls is basically a Bruce Kulick solo album. It sounds really close to what he is doing now in the band Union.

Speaking of Bruce....I swear his hands were all over "Psycho Circus" too. There was even rumors of him playing on most of the record cuz Ace couldn't pull off most of the stuff they were trying to do.

That worthless disco Dynasty album ruined everything..

Not particularly relevant - but have you guys seen the movie 'Detroit Rock City'? Great stuff - Running with the devil is a classic scene, as is Iron Man and a bunch of others. Thoroughly recommended for a mindless evening of entertainment, and I don't even like Kiss much. Loads of cool '70s hard rock on the soundtrack.

Peter came from a totally different drumming background. He wasn't the 'typical hard rock drummer'. He was inspired by jazz and the whole 'big-band swing' thing. Eric Carr (god rest his soul) came from a rock n roll, Zeppelin background, which meant he could do very fast rolls and hit the snare really hard.

Peter's more of a jazz drummer and that's what made the original KISS sound so unique and better than their stuff in the 80s and early 90s. '100,000 Years' is a great example. 'She', 'Parasite', etc.

I can say that Eric Carr was a better drummer, yeah, I guess he was, but he was a different drummer than Criss. Different backgrounds, different feel.

Your right Vinnie . Eric Carr was from the John Bonham school so to speak . I seen Kiss about a month ago and it was cool but Peter Criss wasn't even hitting the skins that hard . He looked like Charlie Watts of the Stones , just nice and easy playing , and thats fine . But I like to watch a drummer beat the shit out of his kit , like I do http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif , and brake some heads , sticks , ect.. Alex Van Halen plays hard also , I like that , he takes it to the edge , as did Eric Carr . I tend to like Kiss albums with Eric Carr drumming or Eric Singer .

For a album with non makeup yes .
Some of Gene's coolest songs he has wrote since Creatures of the Night . I like Creatures , everyone seems to like Destroyer , Alive 2 , Alive . So do I BUT HITS (hot in the shade) has some cool ass tunes . Eric Carr even sings on a song .

Okay, lemmie think here.

It's been some ten years since I actually listened to that album.

I still like 'Forever' (as corny as that may sound)

Carr's "Little Ceaser" is okay. Too bad he never got to sing more.

But, I have to say the Gene songs on that album (with exception to 'Betrayed') sucked bigtime. Also, there are too many Desmond Child inspired-co-written songs that just make me groan. Like "You Love Me to Hate You", "Silver Spoon"....ugh. It sickens me to even think about that crap.

But, they came back with a vegeance after 'Shade' with "Revenge".

I like REVENGE . I liked Eric Carr alot . But Eric Singer is a great drummer also.
IMO Eric Carr was a better drummer than Peter Criss .

Ed, if you listened to Alive!, Peter USED to hit the snare really hard, but not in a Carr type of fashion. Like I said before, I think Peter needs to be cut some slack. At 53, the guy has 'carpial syndrome' in his arms, which means that it causes him pain when he plays. The thing is, for drummers, ya have to protect your arms. Peter, in the old days, just played like a madman. He never really 'warmed up' before shows so to speak. Now, he can't really hit the drums really hard.

By the way, it also depends on 'sound'. Carr's sound on the albums he did (especially Creatures), was a hard in your face sound. Very thumping. Yet, listen to Singer on Carnival of Souls and he's still not hitting the drums as hard as Carr. Kind of a different style.

Oh yeah, I read interviews of Singer saying that it was difficult at first to get some of Peter's 'fills' right when he played the old songs live. That's because it's a jazz thing, and Singer's just a rock drummer.

Also, on guitarists, Kulick has often said how it was really hard for him to nail the solo for '100,000 Years' as done by Ace.

A close second is DRESSED TO KILL.
