Does anyone know for sure if they will be taking any type of Citibank cards, or if it has to be the Citibank/AAdvantage card exclusively. I have an email in to Ticketmaster - hoping to get a response today. Any info would be greatly appreciated - hope to see some of you at the Palace of Auburn Hills!

As a matter of fact they DO. A woman in my office with two different types of Citibank cards called for me and they wouldn't give her ANY information. They told her point blank you had to have a Citibank/AAdvantage card specifically.
I also had 2 other friends WITH Citibank/AAdvantage cards call for me and they told me the same thing. However, not only do you have to have the AAdvantage card to get the password, but you also have to use the card to make the purchase. So, even if you had the password, you couldn't buy the tickets with any other card.
Finally, this is the WORST set up I've ever seen. Tickets for the Michigan show go for $59.95, $79.95 & $149.95. But I got an email yesterday from The Palace of Auburn Hills (where they're playing) as was told that only tickets in the $59.95 & $79.95 range will go on sale to the general public. The tickets in the highest price range (obviously the best seats) are reserved for the Citibank/AAdvantage members. Looks like I'm getting nose-bleed seats. :brickwall

I even applied for a Citibank/AAdvantage card online. But after submitting my application, the final screen said it takes a few days to process the application and that they would MAIL you their results (not email). So, by the time they finish processing my application and then mailing my results, I won't hear anything for at least a week. So, even if I got approved, it would be too late for me to participate in the "Premium Seating" ticket sale.
Even if I do get accepted (which I should), I will be canceling the card instantly.
This whole process is such bullshit. What a shitty thing to do to your fans.
From Van Halen: "Hey, thanks for being our fans everyone. However, most of you will never get a shot at decent seats to our show because you either A) can't afford the high ticket costs, or B) don't have the one specific type of credit card that gives you access to the best seats.
Sorry we sold you guys out like that. We knew all the seats would sell out regardless. So why not make some extra money in the process by allowing one credit card company to pay us millions for the rights to the best seats? I mean, we get extra money and they makes millions off the interest generated by their cardholders. It's a win-win for everybody involved.....except you poor schmuck. Have fun, and don't forget to buy a $50 T-Shirt at the concert!"

I don't think Live Nation itself is running that kind of promotion, but I'm too lazy to check for sure.
These kind of limited or "first pick" deals through specific credit cards and other advertisers such as even Best Buy (for The Police tour) is fairly common with Ticketmaster these days. American Express seems to be one of the biggest tie-ins with these sort of things as far as I can see.
Remember, when the regular ticket onsale time and date arrives via TM, you can use any credit card to buy tickets. It's just that you won't get the best seats.
And people wonder how it's possible for a arena or even stadium sized concert to sell out in 5 minutes.

There doesn't actually appear to be any "presale" going on for the Auburn Hills show. To me, it looks like if you have a Citibank card, you have access to purchase from a block of premium seats, but the seats go on sale tomorrow at 10:00 like all of the rest. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but that's the way it looks to me.

No one in this thread has mentioned "presale". Everyone knows it's only for "Premium Seating."
With that said, here is the email I got directly from the Palace.
http://www.palacenet.com/email/epl_071022.html
As you know (and has been mentioned in this thread), tickets range in price from $59.50, $79.50 & $149.50. You can verify those prices at ticketmaster. And as email link I posted above clearly states, only tickets that go on sale to the general public this Saturday are the ones in the $59.50 and $79.50 ranges. At the end of the 2nd paragraph, the last sentence says, "Special Superfan seating is also available."
Well, it doesn't take a genius to realize the "Special Superfan seating" are the $149.50 seats. And since they specifically fail to mention that price range as being available on Saturday, it's clearly not available to the general public. Furthermore, it's equally clear that the "Special Superfan" tickets are the Citibank/AAdvantage tickets.

And hain23x, I have no idea about LiveNation. You can bet I'll be checking them out come Saturday morning. But I've never purchased from them before. So I don't know if you can buy tickets directly from them; if they simply refer you to ticketmaster; or (assuming you can buy tickets from LiveNation) if they participate in the same promotions as ticketmaster. I just don't have a clue about that.

Live Nation links you to ticketmaster when you go to buy tickets.
See the link below for another Live Nation concert, and when you click on the buy tickets, it sends you to ticketmaster's page.
http://www.livenation.com/event/getEvent/eventId/287896/
The Charlotte Bobcats arena webpage also links to ticketmaster, so it looks like everything is ticketmaster.

You may right but there are other tickets for sale at Livenation that check you out at ticketweb.com or tickets.com which is still, um confusing.

It's not insane. It's downright BULLSHIT.
As for Live Nation, you can buy tickets thru them only if the venue you are trying to purchase tickets for is a "Live Nation venue". For shits n' giggles, I tried looking for tickets thru a venue that was supposedly affiliated with Live Nation. When I tried, it gave me a message something to the effect of "This venue is not a Live Nation venue. Please try another search."
You know what else sucks? If you were to try and complain about this whole ticket purchasing fiasco to the band, you can expect an answer of "We don't have any control over that", which we all know is bullshit as well.

Yes, the password is the toll-free 10-digit number on the back of your card. And, yes, it did have to be a Citi/AAdvantage card because my regular Citi card didn't work.
No problem in the end anyway since I was able to access all kinds of $149.50 lower level tickets for the Allstate Arena. I didn't want that expensive a ticket anyway and kept hammering the system for over an hour and just when I was about to give up I was offered the exact location I wanted in the first place. Lower level, straight back from the stage, row C: $79.50 ($93.80 after fees).

This is so STUPID. Typical VH crap, since they care so much about their fans. It's all about the CASH....
Most artist would want their fans to be able to access the good seats. They would usually have their "FANS" go through their web site and give you an option to join their fan club for a low fee or access the web site fill out your information and get a code for the pre-sale.
The VAN HALEN way is four star for $400 or five star $500. I'm sorry but I am going to see after a couple of shows if the band is getting good reviews. I want to make sure the band can still play "up to par" and if this tour is really going to happen before i shell out $350 for a pair of seats.
When I purchased Police tickets I knew they could play due to them performing at their press conference and the Grammy's. Maybe I will get to see some You Tube footage before they come to KC or Saint Louis.

You know what, to be fair, I have to wonder about this "back in the day" bullshit. Did camping out REALLY guarantee a great seat? And was it REALLY that awesome to spend 24 hours or more in line in some parking lot? Maybe in college but I assume most of us are grown ups.
It ain't perfect, but I woke up a 9:45 am on sat, rolled out of a warm comfortable bed, and was able to get great seats for two shows from my Lazyboy. And if I couldn't, there are still a huge # of aftermarket sources to get tickets from that weren't available 30 years ago. You can't tell me that ebay, stubhub, and craigslist make it much easier to score good tickets at a better "market" price than the shady scalpers and ticket brokers of yore?
Look I'm sure it was wonderful to get drunk in line in a tent at 9 pm the night before a ticket sale went on sale back in 11th grade, but lets face, that's not really an ideal situation for most of us these days.
I think it was 1993, VH was touring DC. I had a friend who was tight with out local ticketmaster outlet. A phone call was made....as soon as tickets went on sale the "tickmaster dude" punched up 4 tickets for me...put them aside, then opened the window and helpled the first person in line, who had been there all night long.......I picked up the tickets a few days later and couldn't figure out why my seating sections was PIT..........I soon discovered why...:)

I plan on going to Cleveland and East Rutherford so far, and three more for the second leg. I can only afford to spend $100 or more per ticket on one show (preferably here in Pittsburgh) and the rest I'll get shitty seats so I can go to five. But I don't understand some of this. Aside from the 4-Star/5-Star stuff (which I can only pray VH is still touring in five years when I'm further along in my career making signicant more money so I can get some of those packages THEN), and just talking about regular tickets, my questions are:
1) What are the minimum prices for these shows? I know they'll vary, but ballpark? I mean the shitty seats. On VHND's link to TicketsNow, the prices are a minimum of $100-ish, usually like $130-$140. On Ticketmaster, they're like $50-$60 minimum?
2) Why are Cleveland's tickets on sale on TicketsNow...even though they're not on fucking sale yet?
3) Why is the Official Site showing most of the shows "sold out," but they're not listed as "sold out" on Ticketmaster?
...and to top it off my wife just got her dream job which she starts next week, so it's going to be hard for her to request off this year, just to make things more complicated! JI-YAH! I'll make it happen somehow, just need some help right now please. Thanks in advance.

"everyone else" are ticket brokers. They have deals, scams (like selling tickets they haven't procured yet) etc. to put tickets on the market before they go on sale. Good for them. That doesn't mean YOU have to be one of the suckers who buy them.

Exactly, I got mad when I saw tickets for Cleveland at these broker sites when they had not gone on sale yet. Ticket Master told me that the promotors are the ones that make these tickets available. Ticketmaster are only given so many tickets from the promoter (Livenation) to sell.
Blame Livenation and individual owners of the tickets for any ridiculous prices you see.

In my opinion this is a terrible fucking idea. If you don't know what you are doing you will easily end up with multiple sets of tix that you can't get rid of, and the only thing you'll be raising is your blood pressure. Many areans for their Sposrts Box Holders, sell Premium Ticket Packages. This quite expensive..... but it does give the box holder the oppourtunity to sell in advance tickets to almost anything, with a broker, in advance for for any announced show.....
I To clarify, the Box Holder agrees to buy, say 12 tickets for every show that comes along. So in advance, he knows that that he's got 12 tickets to offer to his broker connection, and the broker can offer them in advance of any tickets being printed.
It's good to be rich. Until you totally fuck up your life, like the Max Factor Heir did....

Right. If you have EXCELLENT seats you can always make a few bucks on them. But aren't going to get excellent seats. You are going to get shit in the uppers or average in the lowers, which at best you'll make a couple bucks on, at worst you'll have to dump and lose money on. I bought a $270 for the Police show at MSG a couple weeks back for $200, it was an awesome seat.
ANd if you DO by some miracle score some excellent seats off of TM...uh...duuuuhhhhh...wouldn't you just KEEP them and go to the show? Like...instead of selling them to raise enough money to get $800 ILAA tickets?
I have to ask...were you drunk when you came up with this scheme? More power to you if you can pull it off but I have to assume you really haven't put much time into thinking about this one.
Anyhow good luck, but at this point just buy the damn ILAA thing. It seems it's what you really want. What you don't really want are 6 sets of crappy seats that you think you'll somehow turn into an ILAA package.

People around here act like they've never bought tickets for a concert.
"everyone else" are ticket brokers. They have deals, scams (like selling tickets they haven't procured yet) etc. to put tickets on the market before they go on sale. Good for them. That doesn't mean YOU have to be one of the suckers who buy them.
Be patient. The tickets will go on sale through TM. And like most of us, you will have a chance to buy decent tickets at face value, which is currently $60-$149. NO WORRIES.
I've bought concert tickets many times before, but I've never bought tickets through a broker, didn't know they jacked the prices up that high. I usually buy from Ticketmaster, or stand in line. I still have to drive 8 hours to get to Minneapolis and back, miss 2 days of work, and get a hotel room, so I was hoping the tickets would be cheaper. It'll cost me more in gas than the tickets will cost me.

I just won the Auction for Charlotte so I can pay $350 a seat.
I think I got out for what I paid for 5 Stars in 2004
3rd or 4th Row in 2004
Floor Sec 2 (front center section) Row P
These are better than Sec 226 Row M, I got when they first went on sale.
Sec 226 Row M now for sale!
Some guys paid a lot more and got Sec 4 (back right section,) although I hope I am able to see over the Ramp!
Roth on!

I notice more and more shows on the tour itinerary are selling out, and I'm getting worried that'll happen for the one at the Target Center in Minneapolis, which is where I would be going. I checked out the prices at TicketsNow, which seems to be the only broker that is offering tickets for that show, and they are twice what Ticketmaster would charge. Does anybody know of a more reasonable rate that is available right now for the Target show, and what site I can check them out at? I don't mind going $100 or a little over for each ticket - but in the nosebleed section!?:brickwall

Gee, wouldn't it make sense to wait till after the TM sale? You might actually get some on TM, and even if you don't tons of tickets will be on ebay etc. This might come as a shock to you, but you'll never have any trouble paying 300% prices on nosebleed tickets...so why do it NOW?

Yup.
Have fun, and don't forget to buy a $50 T-Shirt at the concert!"
lol.
Yet they keep pulling us back in.

I won Action Floor Seats for Charlotte at $350...
I got my Citi Card this weekend...
I thought I wanted to go 5 Stars for one show somewhere...
East Rutherford, NJ looks to be the best option...
Would you go 5 Stars? ...
or
Would you rely on the Citi AA seats?
Since there is no Sound Check, I'm thinking the Citi AA Seats but since
my luck sux at Ticket Master for Charlotte (Sec 226 Row M before
the Auction,) I may want the 5 Stars.
How good are the Citi AA Seats?
Maybe they'll start selling East Rutherford after the Charlotte Show is over.

The Citi AA seats for Cleveland and Boston were in the lower level in the last "side" section from the stage. In other words the lower level section just before the corner back section. So not that great but not horrible. No floor tickets and no lower levels in the better half of the arena. One can only assume that it will be the same for most if not all the other shows. These weren't preferred seating in my opinion. I got better lowers in Charlotte with the regular sale.

Also lots of good lowers showing too, many starting at face.

I realize everyone and their mother is probably doing the same thing, but no one deserves it more than me! LOL That's right, I'm the biggest Van Halen fan to walk the planet, and ALL I WANT is to be as close as I can to my favorite band of all time.
The way I'm going about it is to have my girlfriend in line at an actual Ticketmaster retail location, while I'm online at 10 AM.

Bad news - it WON'T work. Your girlfriend will end up buying shitty seats because that's what's available. You really are better off trying yourself online, and if nothing good comes up, being patient or looking on ebay. Seriously, your girlfriend is just going to end up with a pair of seats that you will need to unload later - if I were you I'd give her a list of acceptable sections and tell her not to buy unless they are available.

Don't stress about those Citibank AAvantage card preferred seats. They're not any better. I have one of those cards and have been doing test runs for concerts as they go on sale (including the one in San Diego) and the seats are always off the floor and in the middle or back of the arena-no floor seats yet. So much for preferred seats. And, I even tried for singles, too. No better.
I'm trying for Anaheim myself. Good luck with Staples. I use multiple browsers and never query for more tickets in total than the allowed order limit using those multiple browsers. So no harm no foul. I've never had a problem doing that and I ended up in Orch Row B for Neil Young at the Nokia doing that. It doesn't always work but most times it does. You also have to be willing to take a chance and throw back crap seats even though you will surely die if you do. It took me 15 minutes to get the 2nd row orchestra seat and I turned down rown F and Row K during that time. Orders fall through for a variety of reasons (it's happened to me) and tickets get thrown back into the pool. Never give up during the first half hour, at least.
Good Luck!

Why are shitty seats all that is available to retail outlets?
Are you telling me the entire front floor section is reserved for that bullshit credit card?
I NEVER have any luck online. For example, this morning I tried to buy tickets for a club show in LA (Foo Fighters CD release party). I was online, logged in, ready to go at 9:57. AS SOON as the page was loaded with the option to buy tickets, I did. Or tried anyway.

No, what I'm telling you is what has been said a million times - the WORST seats go on sale first. They generally hold back the best stuff for VIPs, brokers, scams, etc. Being "first in line" generally won't get you shit these days. I'm just saying, you send your girl out there with orders to "buy the first seats!" and you might come back with upper deck. Leave her out of it and deal with this yourself. And if nothing good comes up DON'T BUY.
I just, 15 minutes ago, bought a 12th row center ticket for Charlotte off of Ticketmaster.

They are right! Listen to them. Tell your GF to stay home and man another computer or cell phone. I read one post on another forum where the TM clerk at the outlet they went to was slow as moses and the server crashed during seat selection (or some such nonsense) and the clerk had no idea what to do. Long story short, it was a complete waste of time.
Every once in awhile I will get front row etc right off during a general sale (and I have dial-up) but most of the time you have to play the waiting game. TM is notorious for throwing out crappy seats for the first 15 minutes. Especially after a pre-sale. It's like they throw up all of the passed over presale tickets at the start of the general sale.
And, 1984 don't stress about the preferred Citibank AAdvantage card seats. It's a myth. They suck too. I have one of those cards and I have been running test cases, as shows go on sale, and I was offered better seats without the card more times than not. I was never offered a seat on the floor except once and that was pretty far back.
That is why I opted for ILAA 4 star. It's a bit much but with any luck I could end up inside the ramp! Single seats often time are the best choice but a lot of people won't do that.
Good luck!

Tiz true. You'll get no argument from me on that one. A lot of people were anxious about not having a CITI Bank AAvantage card and were afraid the "preferred" or better seats would go exclusively to cardholders as Citibank is the tour sponsor.
But again the seat was not on the floor. So much for preferred seating was my point.

For this type of show, I prefer not to have floor seats. If you are outside the VIP or arch area anyway! Last tour I had 4th row floor. The guys very rarely came out on the runway, so being even that close was not that great. I was disappointed.
Tickets, I agree, a far too expensive. All floor and side seats in the lower and upper levels are $150. That is most of the seats and the $50 and $75 seats are crap! Balcony, at the far end, is $50, but bring a towel for when your nose starts to bleed and binoculars to see. The credit card thing is a way for the agents and scalpers to get in for the good seats. They have all of these cards, and the people they use to get tickets also have these cards. It can be CitiBank, but usually is American Express regular and gold! It also helps to have the automated programs to get access more quickly.
You think the VH thing was bad, I have two young daughters. This Miley Cyrus/Hanna Montanna tour is outrageous! I was lucky enough to get in on the presale (for free) and nab 3 decent tickets. Many of their friends were not able to get anything. Now, $65 tickets (not even good ones) are going for $300 each and up (check ebay)! The two shows near me sold out in about 1 minute.
I just received a ticket from Stub Hub and it reads:
Row 4 Seat 53 RFLR....Anybody here from Toronto think these will be any good...
I went to Charlotte and people were picking up tickets outside from scalpers for 20 bucks. Anyone want to share what they know the scalper price range was at the other shows so far? Thanks.

Just before the show, or when it is starting, if the scalpers still have some left, they will try to dump the extras. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not (for the buyer!). It depends hugely on the city, the demand, week vs. weekend, etc. The scalpers have their own tickets and the agents left overs. Now, if the promoter releases a ton of tickets the day of the show, the scalpers are screwed! And that's what I like to see!!!
Agreed with the previous post....
Upper level seats in Toronto were going for 10 bucks...floors for 150...and close floors for 200 (First 5 rows)...hopefully I can get lucky tomorrow night and score a floor seat within the first 5 again for cheap....or first 10 rows...

For MINNEAPOLIS, just grabbed some tickets in section 126, Row N (right next to the stage, if not behind) that weren't for sale before for $77.50 through Ticketmaster. These could either be really good seats or could completely suck. Just an FYI that they released some side stage.
Anybody sit in similar seats for the other shows? Thoughts?

Let me know how those seats in sec 126 in Minneapolis were. I have similar tix for a show in Anaheim (sec 219) and would like to know how "limited" the view is. Thx.
Has anyone else sat in the seats immediately to the side of the stage...ones that TicketMaster labels as "Warning--Limited Side View"? Sometimes those seats sucks, sometimes they are unbelievably good.

Sure - sometimes those are great seats. They were the bargain of the tour for the last Stones tour - right next to the stage, you could see the whole band, mick would come over and entertain us often...for some shows, like Roger Waters, they suck because you are missing the "show."
For Van Halen, these could be great seats, you'll see all the action and be close enough that it doesn't matter that you can't see the screen. BEHIND the stage is a different story...you get kind of tired of looking at the band member's asses the whole night. But next to should be great.

I really need a response from someone who has already been to a show this year and had floor seats. My wife is 5'5" and I just purchased 23rd row floor seats. Will she be able to see over the crowd? The answer to this question may help a few people who have floor seats that are a few rows back.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this.

Well it's a crapshoot. Are you on the aisle - that would help? If the person in front of her is taller than your wife, chances are she'll have something in her way. I'm 5'9 and haven't had any trouble from as far back as the 17th row. If you want to be sure dump them and get lower level seats.
I'm not sure if this is the right spot for this one, but I'll go ahead and ask anyway:
For anyone that's been to a show, how is the view from the side section closest to the stage? I'm on Eddie's side in STL in the last row of the lower bowl on the aisle farthest from the stage. Can you see the screen from this perspective, or should I exchange for different seats? Also, I know there have been sound cabinets blocking some of the view from there, so any help on that would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. Did you already go to this years show on 17th row?
The stage itself looks pretty high because the walkway has steps that go
down - so the stage is higher than the walkway.

Yes - first show was 13 row center - great cause there was NOBODY in front of me (except the ramp), philly was 17th row off to the side, and tomorrow
9th row on Eddie's side. I am taking my girl to the Nassau show - she's short. For that show I got lower level tickets.
Again it's really a crapshoot - depends on if someone in front of you is really tall. The stage is high, but if you have some tall fucker right in front of you it won't matter much. Good luck either way! Which show are you going to?

I agree if you have Frankenstein in front of you - you're screwed. I'm 6' and I would probably have trouble seeing over someone tall or someone who decided to bring back the 70's fro. Thanks for the reply. I'm going to the Dec. 18th show in Anaheim but I am also thinking about either the 20th or a staples show also.

This may already have been addressed but I noticed the 4 Star prices on ILAA are different for different cities. The 4 Star in St. Louis is $425! It was $375 for All State Arena in Chicago. Prices may be cheaper in Chicago because they did 2 shows at the time and now they will be doing a third in April. I am betting the ILAA packages will be higher when they return to Chicago in April since it will be the only area show. Rip off!

I was just on ebay and typed in Van Halen, one of the items was for presale password for what looked like ILAA. The person wants $10.00 and they will give you the password. What a fuckin scam.

All,
I am thinking about going to this show, depends on my work schedule. Ticketexchange has some great PIT seats for under $500. I would be going by myself, problem is the tickets are in pairs and Ticketexchange does not let you buy singles. Is anyone interested in a deal where we buy the pair , I get one and you get one ?
PM if you are interested.

Don't think ovreseas has been discussed yet publicly but somehow i wouldn't doubt it if there's a demand.
