Mikey Metalhead
05.03.00, 06:51 PM
Mine was a stage/nick name from my club playing days. Not in the sense that I picked it though. I had a friend in Denver that owned a music store and he used to let our band practice in his basement. He started calling me Mikey Metalhead and next thing I knew everyone was calling me that.

What, you don't think houseofpain is my real name? I think the origin of mine would be a tune sitting on Van Halen's 1984! I kinda dig it!

the meaning of my name....!??

HAIN-- this word was coined when I had a band one time and we all lived with each other for a year,, this guy in the band loved Danzig and the Misfits and he would play it all the time.. And he would do a "Dolamtie Mother Fucker"kinda thing with Danzig,, "That's DANZIG maaaaan" all tranced out and jammin in the living room.. so danzig had a song or something that said Samhain of my soul or somethin' and we started saying "Hain" but we would use it to describe something like.....

"Man ,, did you guys hear Eddie's solo on Unchained last nite?? That was pretty fuckin' Hain"

23---the number I see EVERYWHERE! look for it!

X--- sounded kinda techy!

or is that trekkie???hehehehe

OLO
05.03.00, 07:26 PM
Ok here goes nothing!! This is kind of embarissing.

Well the name OLO started about 3 years ago and has stuck with me . A good freind of mine who does something with Microsofts/Internet Explorer e-mailed me a password to a site that he had hacked his way into. It was one of those nude chat lines with the cammera and chat room, I think most of us have seen these. I needed a name and tried variouse diffrent names but nothing was very original to me, untill I was sitting at the PC one night a ad for star wars came on tv, thats when it hit me. Instead of HANSOLO the charector I used HANDSOLO (snicker) people loved the name I got alot of laughes out of it. I got to know quiet a few of gals seeing as the password worked for almost 3 years. The gals that worked there just started calling me OLO so thats how i became OLO.

Short answer....All the good names were taken.
Longer answer....I actually am not crazy about the Balance CD. Outside of the 7th Seal, I hardly listen to it. But I love the dude on the cd, and if I ever got a tatoo, that'd be it.

Olo, you probably won't think of that embarrasing after thishttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif Short story- I was a golf pro for a while. My head pro borrowed a porno from me with Torri Wells in it. The plot (yeah right) was about a washed up Elvis wanna be named Sinbad who she idolized. 05.03.00, 08:27 PM
Well I didn't want to choose a name from a VH song everybody knows or was a huge hit. I had just listened to VH I before signing up and one of my favorite tunes is On Fire. So I thought WesIsOnFire sounds cool! Plus it sounded cool with the 2 put together (my name + 'On Fire'). So there came my nmae. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/cool.gif

well... I think everybody knows what my name means by now, but for the record....

Fuck

Ray
Danniels

Naturally, it was born of pure hostility at the 1996 scam, and the person whom I still believe wwas ultimately responsible for 90% of it. Pretty self explanatory really....

So why do I keep the name now, when it seems likely that Danniels is gone? Are you kidding? I've had this name since October 1996. Why change it now? I very seldom spell it out anymore. Though I may formally drop the periods and just be FORD very soon.

Fur Elise
05.04.00, 12:55 AM
Mine is from a small piece by Beethoven. Ed and Al got into an disagreement one night before a gig about what key "Fur Elise" was originally played in, and that night in concert Ed included this in his solo and proved Al wrong.

Initially, I wanted to use "Intruder", from the intro to "(Oh!) Pretty Woman", which is my email name, but that was taken. I wanted something that was as original as possible, and when it comes to a nickname regarding VH, everyone usually takes the obvious, i.e., "Balance", "VHFan", "EVH", "VH1", etc.

I noticed that I had never seen "Fur Elise" used before, anywhere, so I chose it. And since doing so, I've yet to see it used anywhere else.

heatmiser
05.04.00, 03:13 AM
My nickname comes from that Christmas movie with the heatmiser in it. You know that song, " I'm Mr.heatmiser, I'm Mr.101." Something like that. I registered on this site 12-22-99, a couple of days before X-mas and I had seen that movie with my 2 yr old daughter previously the night before and I had that damn song stuck in my head, so hence the name heatmiser.

Wolfie3
05.04.00, 03:37 AM
Well, I'm Eddie Van Halen's son (yeah right, I wish! http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif) Anyway, while Wolfie is pretty self-explanatory, the number 3 is just sort of my trademark or "lucky" (whatever you want to call it) number. It happens to cover most things that I'm in to. i.e. Eddie's solo's are known as: "3" 16, and the list goes on with stuff like that ...

By the way Glenn, that's interesting. I always wondered what your screen-name meant. Now if I could only figure out Brett's ... http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

05.04.00, 10:20 AM
Nothing too wild here either. When I was younger, my favorite motocross racer was Johnny O'Mara, or Johnny O'(which they put on the back of his leathers). But a young feller trying to emulate his hero, I had Dean O' put on the back of mine, and well, it kinda stuck!! Now it would make sense if my last name started with an O, but no such luck! Father Conmee was a Jesuit priest and rector of the school Stephen Dedalus, a character in the novels "A Portrait of The Artist as a Young Man" and "Ulysses" attended.

05.04.00, 11:54 AM
I used to get on IRC chat a lot - thats where I met the little lady in my life (although we didnt take long to meet 'for real')... but thats another story.... Anyways I used the nickname 'Guru' based on the presumption it looked like I knew what I was doing (oughtright lie)

As time went on I modified the nick to GooRoo, kinda like kangaroo (being an Aussie, it made sense) and later that just got abbreviated. I dont get on IRC any more but I kinda just plug in the nick whenever I need it. When I first posted here I kinda just answered a question, and figured 'well thats it'.. If I knew what was to follow then I woulda picked a more 'halenish' nick but bugger it, its done now http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

Lead Synth
05.04.00, 04:02 PM
Okay, first of all, it's "Lead" as in "lead vocalist," not "Lead" as in "pencil lead." My name came from when I was first starting to learn about/play on/mess around with synthesizers (synths for short.) I always thought that the sound names on synths were really cool, like "Dyno Roads" and "Heaven Tines" and one called "This goes to 11!" Well, a lot of synth sounds have names like "Fat Lead" or "Analog Synlead." I'm a huge keyboard addict and about a year ago I stole/borrowed a synth from my school that had the capabilities for me to create my own sounds...I made one called "Maya Lead Synth" (Maya is my name) and from then on I just called myself "Lead Synth" in IRC and ICQ. I thought it was cute because, you know, lead guitar, lead singer...Lead Synth! I loved the name so much that it just stuck when I joined the links. It makes perfect sense, too, because a lot of what I play on the piano or keyboard is either Van Halen, or original stuff influenced by Van Halen.

Taranaki
05.05.00, 12:34 AM
Taranaki is the name of the province in New Zealand where I was originally from, but now I am based in London doing what Kiwi's do THE BIG O.E for 2 years. That is Overseas Experience for all of you who don't know what it means, it is expected for all young people under the age of 28 to go out and explore the world, the main city we all go to (Aussies, Kiwis, South Africans) - is London. Because it is part of the Commonwealth and also very close to everything - Oktober Feast, Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, the 'Coffee Shops' in Amsterdam etc. Basically you try and do and see as much as you possibly can, before settling down.

Mine's easy. It's the name of the new Yngwie album. It's also the ancient belief that ordinary metals could be transformed into gold by way of mystical methods. I started using the name on regular chat line type things (which are lame) about 6 months ago and I just got used to it. Also, it has a kinda midevil feel to it which I like.

I also figured all the good Halen names would be taken.

Olen, surprisingly enough, is the name given to me by my parents (I am the 'III', actually). It is pronounced just like the 'Olan' in 'Olan Mills' (you know - pictures).

I think Olen is Scandanavian for 'goofy looking, red-head who listens to way too much Van Halen, watches too much sports and enjoys life more than one human should.' LOL.

Great to hear that Vic!
Go and buy ASAP their live "Bring'em Back Alive"; it features a cover of Zep's Kashmir (all instrumental, as I told) and a medley of My Sharona/Mississipi Queen/Gimme Some Lovin'/Free Bird that's wonderful.
They're a five-piece band (guitar, bass, keyboards, violin, drums) that plays wonderful, and their music spaces from Country to Hard Rock to Fusion to Jazz to Classical to Progressive seamlessly. Hope you love them (If you can't get that record, get their latest California Screamin' live record, that strangely enough is mixed badly IMO)

POJO_Risin...well...let me just say this. My nickname is PO...some may say because I'm poor 90% of the time...which was true when I got the nickname. Let me just say that ISN'T how I got Po as a nickname and leave it at that.

So, through my teen years to this day, people call me PO. Well, I'm a pretty big Doors fan, and of course, Jim Morrison used the letters of his name to come up with Mr. Mojo Risin. I don't think that I have to go any further. Take away the M...throw in the P, and the rest is history.

Vinnie Velvet
05.10.00, 08:32 AM
Well, my name came about as I was trying to figure out a 'rock star' name for myself after forming a little rock band with a buddy of mine.

Recall the movie 8 MM with Nicolas Cage. Remember he and that other dude visit a Porn director by the name of 'Dino Velvet'. I thought the name was pretty cool, yet I didn't like the first name to it (Dino). So I took the last name and put it with 'Vinnie'. Hence, Vinnie Velvet. So where did 'Vinnie' come from? I'll say this first: I'm not italian (sorry Eddie I http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif). Vinnie comes from my REAL name. I'm not gonna tell ya how to figure that one out.

My name has nothing to do with Van Halen! I'm from Nebraska and I'm a big Husker fan. One of our mascots is named Lilred and I have used this name for so long on the internet I also used it here because I would forget if I had different nickmames to remember. TaDAAA!!

Well my name is from the DLR song Yankee Rose! I just picked because it's one of my favorite songs, I have put it on repeat and listened to it for hours and i'm still not sick of it! I listen to it several times a week. I kind of like the sound of it too. That's all, i'm NOT a Yank and i'm NOT a girl. I am a Canadian guy. I do like hot American chicks a lot though.http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

I used to print billing statements for a couple of different credit companies. One day i saw this guy's name 'Rodney Shangle' on this bill & right away I thought of Rod Dangle. I thought it was funny as hell. I thought that would be the perfect porno name.

06.30.00, 07:05 AM
My real name is Jim so I was going to go with Top Jimmy (naturally). However, someone beat me to the punch. So, I was sitting in my office trying to think of a name, looked up and saw my Sammy Hagar "Red Voodoo" poster and Cabo popped into my head. Not sure where "Kid" came from...maybe some weird cowboy fetish I haven't recognized yet. Although I DO like Young Guns...

Rat Salad
06.30.00, 08:42 AM
Rat Salad is a great instrumental on Black Sabbath's Paranoid album.

The main reason I picked it of course is because Eddie wanted to call the band Rat Salad. DLR suggested Van Halen...the rest is history.

Well, mine is probably not any big mystery but I am a huge fan of the Houston Astros (I'll admit it despite this being an absolutely dreadful season) and I love James Bond films, so I combined the two and thought it sounded cool. Plus in the movie Moonraker, Bond goes into space, so it kind of makes sense in that context.

Mr. Unchained
06.30.00, 12:06 PM
Yeah but it doesn't matter. Most people would mis-pronounce it anyway too.

I use to posted in Slawterhouse under this name. I was already established with Redfire so I didn't want to start a new user name a long time ago before you could change names. I got tired of the name and when EUAS took there brief sabatical, I changed my name to this. I came up with it after I heard the DJ mess up before they went to commercials. Here's what happened....... Unchained was on the radio. Once it was finished they played Mr. Crowley. The chick on the radio said "Mr. Unchained.... I mean Mr. Crowley from Ozzy before that Unchained by Van Halen......" Anyway that's where I got Mr. Unchained from.
