Actually, 1984 has never been my favorite. I'm sick to death of both "Jump" and "Panama", and never really did care for "I'll Wait". Of course that doesn't change the fact that the rest of the album still kicks ass, but I still believe Fair Warning was the best Van HALEN ever, closely followed by the debut album. The other 4 are equal as far as I'm concerned.

Back in 78' I would get my allowance and make my mom take me to my local record store. That particular week I strolled in and the way I would usually buy an album was by how cool the album cover was. (Don't laugh too hard, this was how I discovered Kiss by the "Hotter than Hell" cover and Rainbow by the "On Stage" cover.) I'll never forget it. I go to the new music section and there was the record that I didn't know at the time would change my life! Behind the record was a sign that said "Local boys make good". I bought it and the rest is (personal at least) history.

I was lisrening to "Im The One" in the car yesterday and came to the realization that song is "Van Halen" for me. It has it all. Hey, I do like "One Way To Rock", and "Heavy Metal"(not bad...)...BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTT, there's just something about "SAMMY HAGAR" that I never really cared for...I'm more of a fan of bands like Slayer, Motorhead, Thin Lizzy, "old" Metallica, "old" RHCP, Maiden, Sabbath, VH with Roth...AC/DC(mostly Bon Scott), there's a certain edge and attitude to most music I enjoy, and not all of course, I enjoy lot's of stuff...blues, prog rock ala King's X, and Rush, Dream Theater, Jazz, Folk, etc etc...And I love alot of Punk, real Punk like the Misfits, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Black Flag, newer bands like The Supersuckers(they kick ass...)
