Hey guys! Ok, who here are drummers, and how long have you been playing? I'm very happy that Brett put this section together. Maybe we can use this thread to share our drumming ideas, techniques, theories, thoughts on equipment, share charts, and just talk normal drum B.S. And maybe even share a guitar and bass player joke here and there.http://208.50.7.95/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gifhttp://208.50.7.95/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

Actually Top T, I'm a fill in drummer when they need someone to kick a beat! I'm really a guitar player(13yrs) but we've been doing this for probobly a year now. I just jam with my old bass player who now a six slinger. He has a storage shed and sometimes we jam like 3-5 times a week, just noodlin' around, and smokin' bowls 'n' drinking http://208.50.7.95/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gifhttp://208.50.7.95/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

Hey, don't dis drummers! Drummers are useful.

For example, you know that the stage is level when your drummer is drooling out of BOTH sides of his mouth http://208.50.7.95/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

Lead Synth, you're absolutely right. Drummers are extremely useful. Like what if it's raining out, and someone has to go for coffee, who else would you send?...lol

Hey Top Timmy,

I'm a drummer. Been playing since I was 8(17years). I think this would be a great spot to share ideas and stuff. I'm sure Everyone has there own unique approach to their craft, which is drumming. My influences are AVH ( of course ), Bonzo, Phil Collins ( In the early Genesis years when he was just the drummer ), Jimmy Chamberlain, and Neil Peart.

I'm gonna enjoy this section of the LINKS!

Cool MXRFLANGE!! Those are some awesome drummers you listed as influences. Especially Phil Collins. I think he is way underrated as a drummer Hey, I was playing to "Jump" yesterday. I always get stuck in the middle of the guitar solo. I almost sounds like they spliced the tape somewhere in there, but I know it's just Al's way of playing with the time. Anybody else get stuck there, or do I just suck?http://208.50.7.95/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gifhttp://208.50.7.95/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gifhttp://208.50.7.95/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gifhttp://208.50.7.95/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

My influences are AVH, Rick Allen(gotta admire him), Stewart Copeland, and Carter Beauford.

Hey. Cool thread.

I've been a drummer for 8 years now.
Currently heavily into Elvin, Tony and Jack :smokin:
But I still love VH and rock music.

Top Timmy, I know how you feel with the Jump solo.
Its probably my favourite AVH moment.

I started out playing casual in 6th grade...then stopped for the most part in 7th grade then in 8th grade I went full force all the way to now. This this will be my 6th year...somewhere between fall of 2003 and early winter 2004 I learned every single Van Halen song almost note for note. Anything off of Fair Warning is fun to play for me, I love Sinner's Swing and So This Is Love.

After I saw Motley Crue I got into them and now know all of their songs note for note from Too Fast for Love to the three new tunes.

Last fall I started listening to Cream more and started learning that stuff. I can play all of "Fresh Cream," and "Disraeli Gears." For a favorite Cream song to play, probably SWLABR, Badge, I'm So Glad, I Feel Free, Toad, and Outside Women Blues. Ginger Baker...one of the best.

Also this summer I started listening and learning to the Who. Mostly the "Live at Leeds," album. So by now, I can proudly say that I know the entire 15 minute version of "My Generation," note for note. Which inclues My Generation / See Me, Feel Me / Naked Eye / Sparks / The Seeker. I have most of the album down and have pretty much figured out the Keith Moon style of drumming. And it seems that there's one rule: no such thing as timing.

I started playing in the band at my grade school in fourth grade, a little over six years ago. At the end of sixth grade my dad bought be a used set from his cousins son for my birthday. I never took lessons for set, but I continue to take private lessons for snare drum. My teacher told me at my last lesson before the summer ended that I was the best student that has ever walked through the doors of the shop.

I've taught myself everything I know about playing on a set. While I mostly drum Van Halen, I know loads more, including Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Deep Purple, Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver, and Motley Crue.

My question pertains to cymbals guys. Just purchased a 5 piece MEINL ready
to rock box for my son. He is almost 14 and been playing about a year .This
should complete is kit. does anyone use meinl cymbals? Whats your opionion.
He is into some of the artists that use meinl like Chris Adler and Jason Bittner.
They use the top of the line cymbals, while his are more intermidiate. Not real
familiar with the brand. thanks in advance.

Hey guys, I've been drummin' for about a year and a half now, possibly two, but it started off shakey cuz I had just moved away from guitar. Has grown on me like nothing before, I can't stop now, no greater pleasure in the world.

UK drummer here been playing for 20yrs and after a recent band split i'm thinking of calling it a day as am well fed up after the split as i put so much time and money into the band we even recorded a 3 track demo and then 2 months after the 2 founding members decided to leave their own band and told me and the bass player by sms.
But still the fire burns for playing so maybe this year i might dig the kit out and look to play again.

I used Meinl cymbals when i first started out i found them to be an all round good cymbal and last for a very longtime i used a 20" ride and a 16"/18" crash sadly though i sold em when i sold my first kit but you have made a good choice.
