View Full Version : Driving me Nuts for years-Serious Ju Ju
Bad to the Bone

ok. I might be crazy. This has been in the back of my mind for years now. At the very end of Serious Ju Ju, one of the coolest parts of the song is a vocal that comes in and says "somebody save the world". My initial thought when hearing this was "that's Mike Anthony" and I would have bet my house on it. It doesn't sound like sam and I go back and forth on wether it's Mona or not, it didn't sound the same in concert....
am I nuts or is it possible that this is Mike?

I've actually always thought that Mikey sang a LOT of background vocals on Sam's solo stuff...including JuJu...

Same here.
That song rocks by the way. Great live tune. Not sure why Sam and the boys (and girl) don't play it more than they do.

Kick ass song. Don't know if it is Mikey or not. Doesn't the liner notes say anything like "Special thanks to Michael Anthony" or something like that?
Listen close to the closing chorus for "Deeper Kinda Love". Sounds a little like Mikey could be in there as well.

I have always thought it was Mike too. But Mona sings pretty simular, so it could be her. I still think it's Mike though.

i'm almost positive it's Mona...no mention of Mike in the liner notes of the cd either...listen to it again, i think you can clearly tell it's Mona's voice.
On The Long Road to Cabo DVD Sammy mentions how they both sound a lot alike. It could be her.
What CD is that song on? I don't think I've heard it.

I think you're right. Mike slipped in there in a few spots.
This topic reminds me-
I maintain that some of the Travelling Wilburys music was a cleverly disguised Beatles reunion with the living members. There was a video where Ringo played the drums. Also remember that Paul made a (c)rap album under a psudoname. Based on those two facts, I wouldn't put a reunion of that nature out of the picture. It would be a no-pressure situation, because they're not using the Beatles name.

Sure you're not talking about this solo Petty video?

Yeah, Ringo was in the "Won't Back Down" video.

It's Mona. But there's definitely room for confusion with how similar she sounds to Mike.
And thanks for the reminder to listen to that song! Definitely one of Sam's gems since parting with VH...

I agree "The way we live", but not "serious juju", I reckon its mona........and it was while Mike was in VH. Eddie would'nt of liked it, even if it was little second vocal sample.

Thanks for the reminder Andrew. I thought I was losing it for a little bit there.

definately Mona...trust me, unlike the Goober brothers, if it WAS Mike, Sam would have given him his proper credit.

Did Steve Lukather sing background on any Sammy stuff too?

unless Mike did it and didn't want credit so EVH and AVH wouldn't loose thier minds. I still can't decide if it is mike or not.
