There are only about 6 sammyera songs that I REALLY can't stand

But I remember when my friends and I first heard Dreams, we laughed our asses off!

We were going around singing "the sun will come up tommorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tommorrow there'll be sun"

I wrote an album review for my school newspaper when 5150 came out, and I remember commenting on how that song sounded like something from 'Little Orphan Annie"

but the part that KILLED me is when Van Halen did the secret gig in LA and shot that video for this song---I was throwing up! all the people there rockin' to it like it was "Whole lotta Love" or something! Then people started wandering around saying "man that Dreams song is KILLAH!!"

How do you go from songs like 'Hang em High' and 'Automic Punk' to "we'll get higher and higher leave it all behind"????

I'm not trying to insult the intelligence of some of the fans because I know that if you had a choice between 'Mean Street' and 'Dreams' , you would pick 'Mean Street'.http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

I agree that most of the Sammy stuff they put on BOV1 was a sappy love-ballad cheese-fest, but what are they supposed to do? Those were the biggest hits.

I think "Dreams" can rock. I've always been disappointed that it's not on LWAN.

True, though it was called Best Of and not Greatest Hitshttp://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif But the content of BOV1 is pretty much what I would have expected, I tend to skip from Panama to Human's Being, sometimes stopping off at Poundcake. Anyway I burnt my own 'best of Sam Halen' disc a while back, 74 minutes just about covers everything I really like from Van Hagar.

I enjoy a good ass-kickin song like
'Mean Street' or 'Unchained' like the next fan but I also really enjoy the music that was made from 1986-1995. It was a different brand of Van Halen. Most of the music in general from the '80s was very popish sounding. I always thought 'Dreams' was a great tune. It had two good solos and Sammy 's singing was right on the money.

If you look at all of the songs, all of them except Unchained were singles. And that's what they were putting out. Pretty Woman and YRGM were off cause they weren't VH songs but cover. Not to mention the fact, I don't think Ed really liked 'em to begin with. Anyway, they were covering the spectrum. You want rock and roll, you got it. You want pop rock or pop metal, you got it also. Keeps everyone happy.

Mr. Unchained, I've actually heard Ed say that of all the cover songs, Pretty Woman and YRGM are the two that he always liked. He must have loved YRGM because they continued to do it into the Sammy era and even in the Gary era.

I'm not sure what your point was, mine was just that my favourite Van Hagar songs aren't the hits. These type of albums are of course aimed more at the casual fan so the track listing was to be expected.
