View Full Version : What Does Your Spouse Think of VH?
I don't know about you folks, but when I start talking about Van Halen, my wife gets this seriously glazed look in her eyes.
Me: "hey, looks like Dave is back in VH"
Her: "whatever"
Anybody else have this problem. Man, how cool would it be to have a spouse who loved VH as much as me? I love her, but it wouldn't kill her to be a little more like janevh.http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

If Jane is married she has got the luckiest husband in the world! Think about it. A woman as obsessed with Halen as much as I am! The only one I've ever met and I've never met her only exchanged email.
I am gonna teach my daughter right though!

My wife will ask some techy guitar question about Ed/recording/sound waves ect, and after 5 minutes or so, she politely informs me that she lost me at phygianhttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

My girlfreinds pretty good about it, she digs some songs, but not others.. If shes in the right frame of mind she will let me ramble on for a bit about the soap operas.
The other night I put a new bootleg I received into my PC and played the opening of 'Mean Streets'.. 'cool..' I said and proceeded to explain (roughly) how Ed does it.. The response I got was 'Yeh but it's just NOISE!'.. grrrr
Not to mention when I'm watching videos and she says 'You sure Dave isn't some big poof??' LOL
Damn, I'll train her yet http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

Dudes, just play Loves Walks In and your women will think Van Halen is allright. Then slowly expose 'em to the better stuff.
I took that tactic with 'Not enough'.. I dont particularly like it, but thats not the point hehe

My Fiance is a HUGE fan of Rock Music but is a little more particular when it comes to Van Halen. She thinks Eddie is the greatest guitarist and Sammy was their best singer. She HATES David Lee Roth and thinks the reunion is overated with Dave. She swears he is a "closet queen." Her favorite song is "Panama." That is as much VH I can get out of her. She can really take them or leave them.

Is it me, or is there a HUGE amount of homophobia on this board? I keep seeing the fact that someone is gay, or that someone might be gay, used as an insult. What gives?

Sweet William - I hear ya man, it's kinda funny that there are some people who still believe calling someone homosexual is some kind of insult.
As far as Van Halen and my fiancee, I have converted her. When we met 5 years ago, her impression of the band was "Jump" and "Panama" which still believes is the same song?? http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif Anyways, she has become much more appreciative of their music over the years, went with me to see them live in '98 and we had a great time. She is much more partial to the "Diamond" Dave era, and "In A Simple Rhyme" is probably her favorite VH tune. I talk about VH all the time, she plays along rather well, even when I am telling her crap she could care less about, like Eddie's technique, etc. She's a good sport, and she likes to give me a hard time about VH, but deep down I know she digs 'em, she thinks Eddie's an amazing player.
Now I have to go, as she's yelling at me to get off the damn Van Halen page on a rare day that I took off from work. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

I cant speak for anyone else but when my girl reffers to Dave as 'a big poof' it's only really a running joke.. My standard answer is to shrug my shoulders and say 'probably'. I dunno, i figured homophobia was something altogether different and more damaging, or is it so important to be 'politcally correct' that a person cant even have a harmless joke about the subject without the word 'homophobe' springing up?
Not meaning to have a shot, but sometimes I feel people get overtly sensitive about the subject

Everytime I pop in Van Halen on a road trip with my girlfriend, she always says "Van Halen kicks ass!". http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif
My Mrs. is on my side when it comes to VHhttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif
The best part is she likes the "edgier tunes " like Hang 'Em High, I'm the One and Light up the Sky. We are both so-so with the Sammy Valentine tunes.

My fiance'....truth is she is about as sick of VH as one person can be. I play them constantly...always...well...mostly Dave, and she prefers Sammy, or no Van Halen. I give here at least two pertinant facts about the band a day. To her, I tell her, "Okay, here's the Van Halen trivia for the day." Now, I get the bit eye roll. Hell, I try to talk about Ed the family fan just to talk about the band, and a topic she wants to talk about...doesn't work though. I can't even get her to commit to going to the Dave/VH show...although she jumped at the chance to see Sammy. As a matter of fact, she went at 6:00 A.M. to wait for tickets because I had to work. I did take here to the VH III show, and she hated it...except for Ed's playing. Oh well, there is still time to change her....she will believe....
Oh yeah...she did decide to play "Hot For Teacher" while we are being introduced at our reception. Wait'll she sees my DJ's set list for the reception....might be the shortest marriage ever.
Hey Eddie...want to play a wedding?

My wife likes some of the Sammy stuff, but thinks the Dave era is a little to rough for her. She is very sick of hearing me talk about the reunion and everything, she just rolls her eyes and says yes dear.

Just tune in to what this place has got to offer cause we may never be here again
My fiancee is just the opposite, she can't stand Sammy, his voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard she says. I don't agree of course, but I have no problem listening to primarily the Dave era in front of her. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

On my wife and I's first date I asked her what kind of music she liked and she said
" 80's rock and roll, like Motley Crue, Whitesnake, Cinderella. But my favorite is Van Halen!!" I aked her if she would mind if I got on one knee and proposed to her right there!!!! Our first concert together was during the FUCK tour.
I have been trying to get her to join us on this board but she said she would leave that to me. Oh Well!! She's not as fanatical as I am, but they are still her favorite!!

I'm sure you've heard enough about my "take-it-or-leave-it" attitude towards VH, but they aren't that bad. I've gotta hand it to them--they have extremely loyal fans. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/confused.gif

Currently "between girlfriends" as us single guys like to say, but my mom actually likes Van Halen. I used to listen to it constantly when I still lived at home. Kind of grew on her I guess. Her favorite tune is "Black and Blue". I was learning it on guitar at the time, so she heard plenty of it. BTW, mom is in her mid 50's. Kind of cool, I think.

Wow--a post from Mrs. Brett!!! Welcome aboard, but watch out you'll soon be addicted like the rest of us! Anyway, when I first met my wife she claimed to not like VH. This of course had me bummed. Eventually I started playing some VH, and to my surprise, she was singing along. I wondered how this could be since she claimed to not know much about VH. Turns out when she was a bartender, Vh was constantly being played on the juke box, and she didn't realize it was VH, but she liked the music. I still haven't converted her after completely after four years, but I'm still workin' on it!

Well, I call her my wife but she's not but she will be in about 6 months- we've been together for over 3yrs and it's like we're married- you guys get my point, right?? We are now trying to decide on a song to dance to at our wedding and I think we're going to have 2 songs to dance to one is Frank Sinatra's "All the way" and the other is.... "Not Enough". She really likes that song and what the hell there hasn't been a wedding that I've gone to that has a VH song for the wedding couple to dance to. She pretty much goes with flow with VH music, she likes the Sammy era better, she thinks Roth is a "wacko". I always have a tape in my VW and she'll listen to it to an extent... meaning: i can only listen to both sides once and not over and over again.

My husband definitely does not like Van Halen with Sammy Hagar, but he never got to see them with Dave (poor dear). He thought the concert we saw with Gary was great, though (and he wasn't crazy about VHIII either). He thinks I'm nuts because I'm such a fanatic over the band and especially Edward, but he never ejects the VH CDs when he gets into the car, so I guess I'll keep him (unless Ed makes a call)http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

My wife likes VH, she used to love them, but after the soap operas and a us having a couple kids, I think she outgrew them a bit.
She loved the Dave era, thought Sammy was ok but it wasn't the same, and thought it must hurt Gary to sing like thathttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif. I had the Toronto 95 live tape in the car a bit ago and during the end of Amsterdam where Eddie rips it up, she commented on how good he was. We do share a special bond with VH as the first time we got to know each other was in High School study hall. I had the first Guitar Player with Eddie on the cover from 1980 and she was sitting in front of me and said "You like Van Halen? I love em' can I see your magazine?". The rest is history http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif

My boyfriend Michael and I have been friends for 7 years, boyfriend & girlfriend for 3, and living together for 1. He's always been a VH fan, but not quite as much as me.
Since I've joined the Links, he was a little worried (could there possibly be such a thing as too much VH?); he listened to my soap box on the happenings here, and even said, "you are spending way too much time there."
Well, he finally accepted the fact that I needed an outlet for my VH obsession, and now, welcomes the information we discuss here.

My wife thinks we're all freaks, but thinks there are worse things I could be doing on the internet. http://www.vhforums.com/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif She likes VH OK, but HATES Sammy - especially his voice - says he sounds like someone's grandpa after being kicked in the jewels. We drove two hours to a gig she had two weeks ago, and while she could have had material to practice in the CD player - instead, she gave me a steady feed of Dave-Era material the whole way while I drove. Needless to say, I told her I loved her for that. Besides, she loves to hear me play Ed's stuff on guitar. http://www.vhforums.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif (We used to have a band together, for those who haven't read that in previous posts.)

I don't know - my wife tells me she used to have stuff like G 'N R's Appetite For Destruction, yet when I try to play kick-a** rock 'n roll, she doesn't care for it. My four year old, however, was trying to sing along with "Jump" yesterday!

She sings, but not much anymore - sits in with her Uncles' band every now and then. We an 8-piece band of our own together for 5-6 years - Mrs. Wolfman sang lead, I played Lead Guitar, and we had Bass, Drums, Keys, Rythym Guitar and two girls doing back-ups.
We haven't done anything together for about two years. I'm looking to hook up with a couple of friends from school(15 yrs. ago; LMAO! http://www.vhforums.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif ) to get something started again.

my wife doesnt listen to rock music at all. One day we were watching the vh-1 greatest moments in rock and they showed the 96'mtv fiasco. I was watching the tv and i didnt say a word, after the vh segment she said "now that was real bust and dlr looks like a fool on stage." I stayed quiet because i knew i couldnt possibly defend that one. That was the only time she ever made an comment about vh. After that comment i turned the tv and called it a night. I hope the next comment will be alot more nice about vh. 3

well the girl I'm kinda seeing right now and I went on a long drive recently and she wanted me to put it on the local pop channel. I asked her to wait a minute till i get my VH fix. She reluctantly said ok, so I played "you really got me" from my mix tape and after it was over, she sheepishly said with a gigle "you know, i've heard that song before but never even knew it was VH." I had a good laugh.
