Ok., here's one for ya guys. What's the well known name of the place Van halen Practiced in from the mid 70's to just before they moved into 5150?
You people in California should know this. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

Well, they practiced in Dave's parents basement didn't they? I get the feeling this isn't what you're after.

It was refered to as "Ground Zero", but like Glenn, I think your after something else. Does Dave's house have a famous name or something? Out.

Track 5, what was referred to as Ground Zero? Dave's parents house? Just wondering.

No, once they started doing better gigs they moved out of Dave's basement.
One hint. The building is in Pasadena.

Is it Marshall Junior High School? This is really a shot in the dark guess.

Marshall high school ?...lol
Fraid not bud.
Doesn't anyone know this??

I picked that because that's where Rudy Leiren used to listen to Ed and his various band incarnations. Figured it was wrong, but tried anyway.

Was it Francis Ford Coppola's soundstage or something along those lines?

Glenn

Steven B, VH used Francis Ford Coppola's Zoetrope studios to rehearse for the Diver Down tour.

Glen. Sorry, I wasn't trying to be a smartass when I laughed about Marshall high school. I honestly thought you were making a pun on the word marshall(amps). I never heard of marshall high school, shows you what kind of idiot I am. I know where they did their regular rehearsals cause I know the promoter who ran the place they rehearsed in. I picked up a number of personal items that belonged to them that they left behind. She said they were nice guys but slobs, leaving junk all over the place. I thought it might be in a book or fact sheet somewhere. Any ideas yet?

Glenn-You're right, I can't figure out what Tribb is after here. I was pretty sure they always rehearsed in Dave's basement. There was the old story of Ed and Al jamming on the main riff for And The Cradle Will Rock for two weeks straight until they finally came up with the other parts. Seems to me that Ed said that happened in DLR's basement.

It did have a stage though, if that helps. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/confused.gif

No offense taken tribb, I was just taking a shot, even though I was sure it wasn't right. Thought it could have been a possibility since Ed and Rudy Leiren began a longstanding partnership there. I'm racking my brain, but I'm coming up empty.

Glenn, It's a theater in pasadena that's been slated for destruction for quite a while now, and has been kept open by the work of one person. Van Halen wasn't the only band to rehearse there. Motley Crue was another, and there were a number more.
In some of the old Van halen pictures you can see them on the stage of this place.

Any place where pre-1978 rehearsed should never be torn down. It should be made into a Van Halen museum or something. Well, I'm going to bed, hopefully tomorrow you'll put me out of my misery and tell me the name of this theater.http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

All I have to say is they practiced at Dave's. Eddie and Alex would have to out run the dogs in the yard and they practiced where Daves mom used to work out. At the house....John Marshall High School is where the Hot For Teacher video was shot.

Yea Glenn that's what they called the basement. Not that big of a deal I have just read it as called that sometimes. They practiced in the basement up until 1984 I believe. Out.

Fraid not Track. It's a place called the Raymond Theater in Pasadena. It opened under another name around 1921, and apparently was pretty big in it's heyday. Now it's been slated for demolition, and has been stopped a number of times. I have pictures of the inside and can send them if you like.

Tribb, what's stopped them from tearing it down? You haven't chained yourself to the front of the plac have you?http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

Yo tribb I was talking about Dave's basement. Ground Zero. Out.

Brett, yea at the moment it's still standing. They were there for quite a while.
There may be more acts being booked there shortly if it stays up. This promoter has been trying to have it sold to a buyer that would keep it open to the public, but apparently it needs renovation. A guy named Buchanon has been trying to tear it down for years, to make condos, but has been stopped everytime so far.
You should go down there sometime and check it out.

Hey tribb are you sure it isn't Ray Daniels under another name trying to tear down the place? http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

Wouldn't surprise me, but no it's not Daniels. It's a guy named Buchanon. He apparently ripped out all the seats, and anything that's not nailed down in the last few weeks. My friend tells me there's some publicity being stirred up in Pasadena over it. They're tring to keep it standing as long as possible, and may have a buyer who will agree to open it again. I think if any one had heard about it it would be Brett.
Brett, ahave you heard of this guy Buchanon. He's supposed to be a big developer in the L.A. area.
