So who took the pictures for Van Halen? Glenn, you got any info on this shoot? Was it in a studio, on stage at the Whiskey? I wonder how it was done. Obviously some kind of timed shutter effect. I'd love to hear the story behind the concept.

All I know is what it says on the album, which is that the art direction was by Dave Bhang and the photography was by Elliot Gilbert. Just recently I came across a mint condition vinyl copy of the first VH album for $6. I bought it even though I don't have a record player. The pictures look great at that size, and the dust jacket has pictures that aren't in the CD version. They're individual pics of the guys, and they're really sweaty as if they just got offstage. The Dave pic is very dark and hard to see, but looks really cool.

If you can find a vinyl copy of Diver Down with the original dust jacket, pick it up. The one side has the picture of the band that's in the CD, but the other side has a whole collage (sp?) of band photos. Some really cool pictures that I'd like to see enlarged.

I remember looking at those pics inside the first album for hours as I listened to the record. (snap crackle pophttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif) I always imagined they came out of the studio looking that way, I guess those pics coulda been after a show.

Alex looks derranged, as does Mike but in a more dangerous way. Eddie's got that "That's right punk, I'll play circles around you and anyone who dares!" look. And of course Dave is doing his best for the ladies. Crack up pics, they all look around 17-19.

Some people here sound as bad as I am. I don't have a record player but I saw VHII for $2 the other day used and had to pick the sucker up. It had the case and dust jacket.
