Agreed, CFTH is most badass.
I'd also have to put in a vote for "A Li'l Ain't Enough". Some killer lyrics on that one...
Eat 'Em and Smile album, especially the song "Big Trouble"!

A little zen... Headed your way...
I have to say that threads about Dave solo never seem to get much response. I love them though. Anyway, my vote would go for A Little Ain't Enough.

A Little Ain't Enough.
No ups and downs - you can listen to the whole thing.
By far A Little Ain't Enough. If anyone reading this has even a passing interest in DLR's solo work, pick this one up. You won't regret it for a second.

I kinda liked Skyscraper but i really am impressed with Eat Em & Smile.I know besides a VH album i never made a point of going to a record store on a given release date to buy a album but i did on Roth's 1st solo effort.Plus he really but together IMO at the time a kick ass band with VAI & SHEEHAN!But the older i got the more i learned not to like VAI!!!! SHEEHAN was backbone of that band IMO.
I thought ALAE had Dave's worst lyrics. they were all childishly written and the chorus were just plain dumb. Two exceptions were Lady Luck and Drop in the Bucket (which both kicked serious ass.)
Best overall is EEAS followed by DLRB and SS
Oh, I don't know about that. Some of it was a bit silly (40 Below, but I love it) but one the whole I think it was Dave's best set of lyrics. Just a few samples:
Tell The Truth
"Doin' time, behind these bedroom walls
Blink of an eye, another shooting star falls
Tried to tell you, but you didn't want to hear me
Take one good look, these are tears of fury."
Sensible Shoes:
"You know all my friends now, they look up to me
Wish they could be, a lot more like me
But they don't know, and they can't see
How I'm hurtin', how I'm empty
Lost my soul when I walked out on you
I need some sensible shoes."
Last Call:
"Long shot lover was a real bun buster, talkin' lethal fantasy
And next best thing was nothin' much
'Cause the next best thing was me
Well I was working on approval, so I got her on the rocks
And I put her on the tip of my tongue
Said, 'Don't get smart with an angel, babe, you ain't the girl next door and we ain't done.'"
It's Showtime:
"Just leave your name and number in the dumpster when you're thru, oh yeah
Don't call us, we'll call you
Oscar, Grammy, triple whammy
Cut, that's the take
Quit complainin', where's my agent?
Don't you know how much I make?"
I was just thrilled when I found this gem in a used store a few years ago. For me it's just a perfect rock album. Rates right up there with 1984 and Appetite for Destruction to me. Jason Becker really began to come into his own on that album, and Dave sounded great. What more could you ask for?

ALAE does it for me. I loved Jason Beckers playing, and the songs flowed well together. Awesome album!!

Eat Em and Smile! I thought that was the last great Dave solo album! It went downhill fast after Skyscraper.

Eat Em and Smile and Skyscraper.
I loved Billy Sheehan on these albums. Add Steve Vai and you've got the second best group ever.
It was a shame that Billy left the band and formed Mr.Big. Luckily he has all these progressive rock projects (Niacin etc.) where he does his crazy stuff.

Eat'em and Smile without a doubt!
It's up to classic VH standards, while it's Dave on I'm Easy or That's Life.
But the songs are kickin'ass (Yankee Rose, Shy Boy, Elephant Gun), sexy (Ladies'Nite in Buffalo), solos are great (Big Trouble, maybe the best solo in all Vai's productions), covers (Tobacco Road) and great single (Goin' Crazy). What is it missing?
eat em and smile kicked ass!!!!
