Good man, 007. A true fan sticks with their team through everything. Actually, you guys aren't really having a bad year. I grew up in New Jersey before moving to Kentucky in my teens, so I had the opportunity to see guys like Reggie Jackson play a lot. I stuck with the Yanks through the 80's when they sucked, so I can say the last few years have been poetic justice for me. http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

No, I'm very proud of that team this year - wish I could say the same for the south Florida fans. If they don't show up for the games, there's not going to be a team for me to root for down there, and I waited a long time for there to be a team there. Wish I could go more, but it's a three hour drive. I used to try to go once a month when I lived in West Palm Beach, but getting married to a woman with two kids and then having another puts a strain on the "fun" money! And what's even worse is that TimeWarner Central Florida doesn't have SportsChannel Florida, so I rarely get to see the Marlins or the Devil Rays (they did recently add a local station that carries a few Rays games). But I'm more likely to get mad at a team because of executive decisions like when the Sox traded Lee to the Expos for Stan Papi and kept Don Zimmer as manager. I don't mind someone from New York rooting for the Yankees, it's people that have never been there that root for them because they've won so many times. And being from New England it's in my genetic makeup to naturally hate the Yankees anyway. Do you root for the Reds at all?
Wolfman

I agree with you about people that root for teams based on their success. That's why you and I are FANS. I understand the New England deal, dude - I've got family up in Boston. As for the Reds - I hate 'em with a passion. http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif We're getting a Sally League team here in Lexington next spring (Astros), so I'll at least have some professional ball to go watch. Stadium is being built about a five minute drive from where I work - am I in trouble or what?! LOL! BTW, I hope the Marlins keep a good grip on that Mike Lowell kid they got from the Yanks - he's gonna be the shit in a couple years. Later, man - nice talkin' ball with ya!

Yeah, but don't look like we'll be talkin' 'bout game 3, 'cause upon us all a little rain must fall! So we got a split with the World Champions - that's acceptable! I just wish they'd whacked Clemens - used to be my favourite but then he decided to listen to his agents instead of his heart. Didn't mind him leaving the Sox, 'cause management was bein' funky up there, but he should've gone to Houston. Instead the Hendricks brothers (and why does he need two agents for crying out loud) were only interested in money instead of what's best for his family. Agents ain't gonna be happy until we have no sports to enjoy.

Getting David Justice and Danny Neagle iced it again for the Yanks. On top of watching them come back from a 6-1 defecit and a 8-6 deficit in the ninth against the Phillies to win 9-8 proves they still got that hunger to win it all. Which is what they are going to do. I think it will be the Yankees Vs Braves again or the Yankees Vs Cardinals. I would be SHOCKED if it were anything other then these scenarios in the Series.

Hey Georgie,
Is Steinbrenner going to go after Gant now that Spencer is out? I know Philly was thinking of dumping him when Brogna comes backa then move Burrell to left.
I'm working on a trade right now that might involve him, the trouble is I'm in a NL only league. thanks

2000 Series:
Giants over Jays in 6.
Georgie

Hellohawk- I don't think George is going for Gant. At least not now. I think they like what they see in Ryan Thompson thus far but I guess a little later down the stretch will be the telling sign. I don't think they are going for Gant.
You really think it will be the Blue Jays and Giants? That is interesting. That would be a wild series. I think the Blue Jays would take them out though. They have better pitching and a dangerous lineup throughout. Personally, I don't see the Giants making waves around playoff time but the Blue Jays are certainly going to make this entire AL race interesting. God, I love this sport!

Yo, Georgie - are you from NY, dude? DIF is a Yankee fan too. I say we start up a Yankee fan thread (or turn this one into it). On the subject, wht the hell is up with Cone? Is the guy pitching hurt or something ? Nobody throws a gem and then comes back the next year and goes 1-8! As far as Gant goes, I don't see NY being interested in him. Besides, like you said, Thompson has been a pleasant surprise. Now I just can't wait to see what Neagle does against Philly tonight.

Boy, wouldn't that be ironic, being that I, an avowed Yankee-hater, actually started this thread! But do as you wish as long as it remains a baseball thread and not a "who would look better in a Yankees uniform - Britney or Christina" thread!

Georgie, everyone has pitching issues (see: David Cone), expect the Braves, as always.
Oh, the Giants have pitching, Livian has turned it around after a really bad start, Nathan is undfeated outside of Coors. Although Ortiz has been shaky, Rueter and Gardner have been brilliant at times and Estes has regained his '98 form. God knows they have a ton of offense, great defense and are tough to beat at home.
I don't know who will come out of the AL, but I like their team concept in Toronto and Delgado is having a monster year. The AL is wide open for the first time in a while.

OK, now I've made my peace with my two favorite teams and their play this season.

There you go, Wolfman. From your own words. The thread can be "In the Dugout." The VHLinks thread dedicated to the two greatest passions: Van Halen and Baseball! I'll allow you the honors to start it. And Wolfman? Born and raised in New York. I have been a diehard Yankee fan since 1976. Almost six years before Van Halen caught my attention.
Billy007- Not to worry. It will not be just a Yankee thread. It is a baseball thread. There just happens to be a lot of Yankee fans on the thread.
Hellohawk- I agree with you about the Giants. They have some great players and their pitching has been solid. I just think the Blue Jays are coming up huge this year. Wells has the best record, they play the yanks and Red Sox tough, and Delgado is unstoppable. I also agree that the AL is certainly a race. It has been a few years since that has happened but no one is running away with a divsion this year in the AL. I even think the Indians will close the gap on the White Sox before it is all said and done. It will be a great race in pretty much all the divsions this year.
