Will Chickenfoot have their second album released before Van Halen get new product out?
I predict a wash for VH in 2009 and a second CF album mid 2010.
Also, I still need a ticket to the upcoming show in Toronto. You'd think they'd at least fix a contest for me, but nahhh...

Bingo.
Van Halen 4 = Chinese Democray II
I WANT THE 1ST CF ALBUM 1ST...lol.. Having seen that VH could not put a live DVD and or CD out of the last tour is an indication that they will struggle producing any new material in the future. Bring on the FOOT!!!!

Wolf - "Dad, Uncle Al, have you seen this new Chickenfoot thing?"
Ed - "Which Smoking Loon would it taste best with?"
Al - Sam should know better, I still can't believe how disrespectful he was to Beck."
Ed - (Pointing to headstock of guitar) "What the fuck is this?"
Wolf - "Nevermind, The Jonas Bros called and said they need a new bass player."
Ed - "You can't be in two bands."
Al - "Ed, I don't think the Jonas Bros is really a band."

VH 4 isn't even VH to me, I think real VH died sometime around 2000, as 2004 was a mess for the most part. Regardless, VH 4 isn't likely to do anything, they won't call it quits but they won't deliver, and that's how it has been for years. Chickenfoot will likely run its course before VH ever does anything sadly, but that's just how it is.
And I agree about the shoe cash. Quite frankly, Eddie doesn't deserve the attention anymore, he's living off a legend he hasn't built on in years and if his only work is going to be on new guitar models worth $25,000, new amps and effects pedals and a pair of f'n sneakers, then forget about it, the guy is just whoring out his name. Which many, many people do, but the least he could do is actually record with this stuff he pimps.

What kind of stupid premise for a thread is that? Some Dorothy Dixer of a question pump primed so all the anti VH4 brigade can leap all over it and spout the same mindless & more notably pointless dribble.

A somewhat credible rumor was posted in another thread saying that VH has asked Brendan O'Brien to produce their new album starting in late summer. Over the last few years, when the subject of the ideal producer for VH has come up, I've always considered Brendan O'Brien to be the guy they need to call. He always seems to bring out the best in every band he produces by tapping their energy and trademarks, and he ALWAYS works with amazing engineers which insures top-notch sonic quality. VH needs all of that in any potential new offering. Sadly, though, upon reading that rumor I still didn't find myself all that excited. Yes, if true it's--in my opinion--the best move they could make; but I just have a hard time with the idea of a new VH record without Mike and with Dave trying to offer up something different. It'd be pretty pathetic if Dave tried to do Women and Children First, and it'd be just as pathetic if not more so if he tried to muscle out actual melodies like he did on the Best Of tunes from '96. I'll be hopeful should they put in the effort for a new release, but simply contemplating it now things aren't really adding up.
But I'm way excited for Chickenfoot this year!

From Wiki....;P
In a recent interview with Guitar World about the making of his upcoming new EVH Wolfgang guitar from Fender, Eddie Van Halen had this to say regarding the subject of new Van Halen music: "I’ll be making music ’til the day I die. I’ve done all kinds of stuff, and more is coming. I can’t tell you exactly when right now. Wolfgang is in the 12th grade and he needs to graduate first. Then I’m getting married in June. We’ll pick it up after that."
Although not actually aired, AZ rock station 98KUPD hosts contacted David Lee Roth via telephone for a proposed on air interview on Thurs. Dec 18th wherein Roth stated, "When (Wolfgang Van Halen) gets his cap and gown, we're all going back for the fall semester. I'm not sure we're gonna get good grades in conduct, but you know, you're gonna be able to judge us on our progress report next year and dance with us in time for the prom."
So if you go by this it sounds like they are in the studio by late summer the CD comes out late 09/early10 and the tour"dance/prom" will be late spring/summer 2010.
Not going to bet my house on the time line but thats a general time line from the mouth of people directly involved.
I'm sure some of you will laugh at this and toss rotten fruit from afar and that's your choice. Don't kills the messenger. :)

Same BS as last time (with all due respect to our messenger :) )
Roth sounds like a total moron sometimes. I get that he loves to make ridiculous analogies and statements that he thinks are intellectual or interesting, but it's tiring sometimes.
And with all due respect to Wolfgang, but does it not sound completely laughable that a high school graduation is apparently holding up a frigging Van Halen album? Just in general, think about it, it just doesn't sound right.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think of VH as a band anymore. Maybe something will be released by the brothers and maybe not. Maybe it might even be good. It is not something I would be putting on my calender.
I'm more interested in the CF thing now. Whilst i can't remember the release date, it is a cd I will defintely want to buy this summer.
To me, one is a band, the other is three members of a family and a loud bloke who sometimes talk to each other.
Wouldn't there have to be a Chinese DemoCRAY I, to have a sequel?

Um, Dance The Night Away? Cover?
And probably not. None of those songs were Ed's decision to include. They were all record company/Dave and Ted ideas. Not saying it wouldn't rock though. Ed has said that he wishes they would have done "All Day and All of the Night" instead of YRGM, so who knows.

Considering he probably won't even contribute a single bassline to the whole thing, which is why I don't see them recording anything in the future. Wolf is an easy excuse when really Ed's probably gonna be the one laying down the bass tracks for an entire album anyway...

there's also the little issue of Ed's wedding. The guys are taking a break from each until the summer, is that so unusual? Band tours, band gets away from each other for a set period of time, band records. Isn't this supposed to be how this is done? Isn't this how every band works? Sounds like VH may have finally remembered how this is supposed to be done. If they record then everything they said at the original press conference is true. If they don't they're full of shit. Can we not allow them the opportunity to be proven liars?

Besides the Greatest Hits I mean. They were hoping on a record but Sam says it was obviously a long road to getting such a thing done.

I don't think their will be a second Chickenfoot cd. I think this was something Sammy did for Mike.
I truly believe the VH will put out new stuff by this time next year. I don't expect anything in 2009, except for perhaps the live dvd form the last tour or a single for a soundtrack.

Sure why not? Sammy has had a pretty good post-VH career going with the Wabos, Mike is his good friend who is without a band. They tried with the Planet Us project a few years back but that never really got off the ground.
Sure Sam likes to play with other musicians, but he put his own career on hold to do this project. Not saying that Mike was THE reason for him doing it, but would there be a "Chickenfoot" if Mike were still in VH?

If you've read some of Sam's recent comments you'd know he's not putting anything on hold. This is his career now. He even said it's essentially over with the Wabos even though he'll continue to pay them....probably for life. His focus is 100% on Chickenfoot. This is his band now. Those are his words. He hopes to get back next year and make a second album. Of course it all depends on the RHCP schedule.
Sam will tour w/ the Wabo's again. He likes being solo at times. It wouldn't surprise me if we saw him do some November / December shows w/ them.
However the time until the next tour is highly dependant upon the success of Chickenfoot. If it's a dud - he'll be out w/ the Cabo's next summer.
