The guys from Chickenfoot just posted a goofy video on the site - just sayin' howdy, I guess.
Looks like they're having fun.

Who let Will Ferrel in there?
Pleased to see Sammy and Mikey in a proper band, no offence to Vic or Mariana (or whatever her name was) but I never really liked their playing....

You know, for all the bangin' and slammin' people do on Vic & Mona, I don't see you standing on stage along side Sammy. The view is pretty good from the cheap seats, isn't it?
Vic & Mona weren't brought in to be Eddie or Mike clones. They were brought in to give a different look & feel for Sammy. In the times I saw Vic live with Sammy, he absolutely killed. He doesn't rely on all sorts of foot pedals, trickery or flashy playing. He just plays...and does a damn good job.
I really wish some of you here would take off your Franken-kneepads, and stop knob slobbin' Eddies cock, long enough to realize that not everyone needs to constantly finger tap the neck or crank the whammy bar to be a solid player.

100% agreed. Bunch of babies crying because Vic can't play Summer Nights note for note. Who fucking cares, he's not Ed, nor is he trying to be. I bet Ed can't even play Summer Nights anymore.

Vic is no slouch indeed. In '06 on the Other Half tour, he ripped Judgment Day the fuck up.
No, he wasn't Ed, nor does he pretend to be. He has his own style. Like every other guitarist on the planet.
I know some people will cringe at this . . . but there are a couple of VH tunes I like Vic's take on better than the last few times I've seen Eddie play them. his playing has more of a groove to it -- and I like the soul.

I've never liked Vic Johnson's tone or style, but I feel sorry for the guy, it must be hard being Sammy's employee, trying your best to fit on other peoples shoes, recording new music and one minute later your boss wants to be famous again and leaves you for Joe Satriani!
Poor Vic, Mona and the drummer, now they have to be on payrole until their boss finishes his new project.

Amen. Vic and Mona have done absolutely nothing wrong and play their hearts out with every performance I've seen. If someone truly has a problem with them, it only says something abut the individual rather than those two.

LOL....blow all the hot air you want, but the fact is that Vic isnt even worth mentioning in the lexicon of rock guitarists...and technique isnt the issue. Who agrees or disagrees matters not to me, but Vic's a hack, plain and simple.

Chris...dead on, as usual, my friend.
Both Vic & Mona stated in LRTC that they have the gig of a lifetime, playing with Sammy. That they'd stay until he decided to stop, or do something else.
They'll still be playing down at Cabo, and Sammy's other places. I'm sure they'll be tinkering in the studio, writing new stuff. They're not going anywhere. For all we know CF is a "one-off" project.
Like anybody, you need to mix things up so you don't get complacent. Nothing saying you have to quit your current job, but mix up what your routine is. That's what Sammy does. He does wht he needs to do to keep having fun.
And David Lauser is called "Bro" for a reason. He and Sammy have known each other since high school. Hell, he even called Sammy's mom, "mom" during inteviews. When he isn't playing & performing, he works for Sammy in other capacities.

LOL, and your biased perception matters not to most, plain and simple.
I daresay he's a damn sight better than your axe ability. :)
Aw, it's so cute, all you Eddie apologists tuckin' your tails and scrambling like this. We knows it's REAL scary stuff, this Chickenfoot thing, 'cause it kinda sounds good, and we know that kinda scares the shit outta you 'cause Ed hasn't done jack shit for 11 years and you think, in your own limited and bubble ways, that somehow takes something away from Eddie.
It really doesn't. So maybe you guys should pop a few Xanax, slam back a few Old Milwaukees, and think about how maybe...just maybe...this project has nothing whatsoever to do with Ed - much like VH 4 had nothing to do with Sam or Mike - and stop throwing out the playground comparisons just to make your panicking Eddie whore inside stop screaming. :)

I never said he would be mentioned in any lexicon of rock guitarists. I'm aware he's not a huge innovator like Eddie, Vai or Satch, but what's so bad about being exceptionally good at playing the guitar? Vic is good. Damn good.
All I said is that he was brought in to NOT be an Eddie clone. He was brought in to be a solid lead guitarist. What was particularly great about the band Sammy & "Bro" put together is that, while it was Sammy's band, Sammy treated them as equals. IT showed on stage with the fun they had during every show.
So...please; explain how he's a hack. You make accusations, but never back it up with anything remotely close to concrete evidence.

Don't bother, dude. He's scrambling. One can almost hear the pitter patter of tiny feet pacing back and forth, the chitter chatter of gnawing fingernails, the sheer anguish and torment torturing their thoughts, the sleepless nights furtively wishing, hoping, that Sam and Mike don't actually cut an LP that possibly rawks balls but good. :)

I thought this was a Chickenfoot thread? Last time I checked, Roth, Ed, Mona and Vic were not part of Chickenfoot...
I like how Chickenfoot is doing the PR thing. Using FB is a great way to get things out to the public in this day in age.

Actually if I remember correctly Summer Nights wasn't played on the 2004 tour precisely because Eddie couldn't remember it. Maybe it's because he was completely hammered, but anyways, can't be sure.
Cool video though, nice to see some real PR work....and people keep talking about Chickenfoot taking a page out of VH's book musically, well, VH could use a PR or 50 from these guys by the look of things.

You know, these pro-VHIV clowns who feel the need to derail every single positive Chickenfoot thread are really starting to piss me off.
So instead of just taking a shot at Sam, let's take a shot at Vic and Mona, since they try too hard to be Mike Anthony and Eddie Van Halen? Yeah, that's a fantastic idea. "Vic isn't in the upper lexicon of great guitarists?" Last I checked, Vic doesn't want to be in that lexicon. He's playing for something artists like to do from time to time, and that's to have fun, which Van Halen can only do when they're counting their money with their accountants at 5150. Same goes for Mona. Sam hired them because they can competently get the job done. And last I checked, Sam's been doing quite well for himself on the road the last twelve years.
Vic isn't Eddie Van Halen. Vic doesn't want to be Eddie Van Halen. But when Sam makes up the setlist and "Runaround" is in there, Vic needs to play it, because that's what Sam is paying him to do. Sam doesn't expect perfection, they're two different styles of playing.
To rag on Vic for not playing Ed's parts to perfection because he's not "in the upper lexicon" of great guitarists is fucking stupid. Absolutely 100% stupid. And I don't care if the mods don't like me saying that, to give the guy a hard time for doing his job to the best of his ability is pretty wrong. Simple as that.
And as far as Chickenfoot goes, the only ones comparing this to Van Halen are the VHIV clowns. Part of me thinks they're intimidated, because we have a fantastic new band coming out with new tunes by mid-May, while a peep hasn't been made about new Van Halen music, well...in a very long time. We're having a blast while they have nothing to have a blast about. And just because half of Van Halen for eleven years just so happens to be a part of this project, the clowns will nitpick and nitpick until they think they've gotten their point across to us, which will never happen.
The music has no relation to Van Halen. There is no agenda to Van Halen. There is no "competition" for Van Halen. It's four guys who wanted to get into the studio together and make some music. Might as well call Extreme's newest album full of agenda as well, since God knows Gary is still bitter about VH3
Bunch of fucking whiners. All I know is, the last time I had been this excited for new music was when Rush came out with Snakes & Arrows two years ago, and I hadn't matched that level of excitement before that. So this is a rare excitement for me, God-forbid those of us tortured with a half-assed VH tour and two shitty Sam albums get a chance to have some fun
And it's only the beginning...

LOL....So angry! Anyone that thinks Vic did a good job at the VH tunes must have 2 deaf ears, but to each his own. Being a clone of EVH is not the benchmark to playing a song in a good fashion. But whatever....some of you are really odd, lol.

Why add fuel to the fire? You have your own VH praise forum now with no Chickenfoot stuff to interfere. So why come here and continue to cause trouble?
And what does Vic Johnson have anything to do with Chickenfoot, anyway?

All the talk about Vic and if you don't like Vic you are a Ed cock slurping close minded whatever. Cmon now. There is a ton of grey area. First of all everyone should be civil. It's totally about your personal tastes and preferences.
If you enjoy Sam's solo music and Cabo stuff there is a lot to like about Vic. He IS a great guitarist. He does play VH with his own twist but imo thats the way it should be unless your playing in a tribute band or the game plan is to nail it 100% accurate.
If you are a fan of Sam's talent but not much of his solo music(Like me) then you likely enjoy what he did with Montrose, VH, and now Chickenfoot better than his solo work. Why? well for CF and VH cause I DIG the guitar and Sam's talented voice shines teamed with it. I like the riffs and tunes he does with VH and CF MUCH better than what he does solo. Same goes with Montrose. It was harder for me to get into VH with Sam at first cause I'm such a huge CVH fan but I have admitted by Balance I started to like the combo and the direction they were heading into.
Saying the view from the cheap seats suck cause you were at Cabo or whatever singing next to Sam is pointless. Although I think thats a very cool thing for you since you are a Sam fan and enjoy his solo music we weren't there cause we aren't.
No stones need to be thrown because we like different things or appreciate different aspects of someones talent. I like an eclectic mix of music but high powered guitar with soul and some technical coolness is really something that has always fired me up. For guys who are even more metal heads or whatever than myself I can see how their appreciation for Sam and the player he has played with is even narrower than myself. Who is anyone to judge. Stop fucking hating on each other. It's not like you pick out my music collection or I yours. lol
Maybe some of you dudes should have a beer and get your willy wet before responding so you can be more chill. lol
