View Full Version : Chickenfoot Performing "Rock And Roll", With Deplorable Sound Quality

I really hesitated to post this, as the sound is unnervingly distorted. Perhaps you'll enjoy seeing the band work a stage, nonetheless. The source says it is from Las Vegas, and the footage is shot from behind the stage, literally over Chad Smith's shoulder. Again, sorry for the awful quality. The best option is to nearly mute the sound while viewing. :(

That was awesome, and the audio was not as bad as I had feared....have certainly heard much worse. Did that shirt that Sam took off shortly after the one minute mark have the VH "rings" logo on it?

man, that Will Ferrell is one helluva player!
So they're bringing a percussionist along with them on the shows...interesting. I wasn't expecting that.
sound quality wasn't as bad as Chef made it sound...could have been a lot worse.
I like hearing bands do old covers...
that was awesome!!!
I also like the fact that Sammy had on a van halen jacket in the beginning!

The percussionist is Sam's drummer from the Wabo's David Lauser, it is a surprise to see him there. Wonder if he'll be full time or it was just a one off sort of deal.

Is this new or is this clip from Sammy's 2008 Vegas show where the rest of the guys showed up and jammed on three tunes?

I thought this was Sammy's Vegas gig from last year - not an official Chickenfoot deal.
I think the guys just got up there and jammed with Sam for a few tunes.
I think they made mention of this gig in the Music Radar interview a few weeks back.
This was the gig where they decided to actually form the band.
Don't think Lauser will be a part of Chickenfoot.

Yep, it's the '08 Vegas footage, Joe and Chad just decided to jam with them for a few songs.
Lauser is not a part of the Foot, nor is JD, the extra percussionist for the Wabos.

Yeah that's what he was wearing. Very cool to see, but a tad confusing; unless a fan gave it to him.
Yeah this isn't NEW Chickenfoot. Because there is no ON STAGE package for the Chickenfoot shows.
But who CARES!!! THIS is a band!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
I LOVED the ending when Chad was waling by the camera.
DETROIT IS IN THE HOUSE BABY!!!...DETROIT!!!!!.........(When Chad ignores them)........Guess not.........
Thanks for posting Chef!

They should title this video..."The Genisis of Chickenfoot"

That's got to be something he was given by a fan during the show and he's cool enough to actually wear it and not to be a dick about it. On the other hand, if somone threw Ed a Cabo Wabo t-shit during a gig he'd probably start chucking monitors of the stage...

Mike is also on the wrong side of the stage for CF. I'm glad to hear it is old because I hope Sam won't bring up VH with these guys and I'm sure the other guys don't want Sam getting into VH stuff when leading CF.
I have no problem with Sam picking on the brothers doing his Wabo stuff but this is new page and he should let VH be in the past, at least for now. I think it would be fine for CF to play one or maybe two VH songs (may I suggest Black and Blue and Humans Being) but they should leave it at that. Or maybe a new version of Big Fat Money could work.

Don't Let Go The Coat - The Who
I can't be held responsible for blown behaviour
I lost all contact with my only saviour
No-one locked me out because I failed to phone up
I can't bear to live forever like a loner
Don't let go the coat
It's easy to be sad: when you lack a partner
But how would I react to a broken heart now
It ain't really true rock and roll unless I'm
Hanging onto you and when I hold it next time
I won't let go the coat
I try to explain but you never understand it
I need your body but I can't just demand it
I won't let go like a stray at heel
(Never let it out of your sight)
Every lonely wife knows the way I feel
(Don't let go tonight)
Don't let go the coat
Never let go the coat
Your friends all pass for life is just a market
But you have to finish everything you started
So I live my life tearing down the runway
Sure to get the hang of hanging in there someday
Don't let go the coat
Won't get no more chances - forget the war dances
Go blind and hang on - don't try the slang son
Never let go the coat.

Not for the club dates but I wouldn't be surprised if there is something for the full tour.

I doubt it. But I hope there is. I think this is going to be more of a serious show. As fun as those guys are, the music is really serious.
Sam's solo shows are more of a party.

If they do any covers, I would hope they stay away from the type of covers VH used to do. We've heard them enough.

Amen to that! I'm guessing Zep will be in there, considering Hagar's affinity for them - hell who doesn't love Zep? Rock and roll's an understandable jumping off point b/c it's an easy arrangement for a jam, but I bet they go deeper in the catalogue - perhaps a killer Zep medley that is NOT "A whole lotta Zep".
I think someone already posted that they played a Who song. Good choice for this band.
From what I've heard of the first three tracks of CF, they seem to model themselves as a somewhat neo-classic/blues/rock band with a heavy groove. I think the covers may reflect that.
Personally, I'd just as soon they forget the covers, do every single song off the CF album, let Satch do his solo thing for about ten minutes (if he even wants to), play a few Hagar tunes (maybe not the standards we've all heard a million times), play a couple choice VH songs, let Chad pick a couple of RHCP songs the band could tear up and call it a kick ass rock and roll show!
Just my opinion.

Nah, Sam's not gonna do the cantina onstage thing with Chickenfoot. That's a Wabo thing.
They already announced their fan friendly deal - the VIP packages. I'd imagine when they play larger venues in the late summer and fall, theaters with reserved hard seating and no real GA open pits to speak of, the parameters will change to something like ILAA's spectrum - seat within the first ten/twenty rows, etc., etc. Probably the price will jump a bit for that too.
Fuck the onstage risers anyway. I did it once. Overrated. Much rather be out front in the first few rows, unless you like watching Sam's back all nite.

The reason for the poor sound quality is due to the fact that this was obviously NOT professionally recorded. It looks like a video camera or cell camera was used, and these devices use built in mics that are NOT designed to handle such a high sound level. The sound isn't bad considering what was used to record it!!! I have no doubt that if you recorded a feed out of the FOH board at a proper level, that it would sound incredable! :smokin:

I thought the sound quality sucked, as originally suggested, but it was fun to watch
