i dunno if this is being discussed or not... but with all the PR and everything they are doing, do you think that the album could be a best buy exclusive kinda like GNR did with Chinese Democracy? im just wonderign because of the private concert they did for best buy.
If the album is good hopefully whoever does the marketing on it; gets the word out. I don't think BestBuy did a gret job with Guns n Roses but the album was not the great either. I think a good model was the AC/DC and Walmart. AC/DC sold 800,000 copies the first week and the last I heard sold over 2 million copies! Plus it is a great album.

I would love to be wrong, but I just don't think that demand dictates it.
To do that the retailer is really taking a risk in regards to how many units are sold, I doubt they would do it with a first time act.
Most of these supergroups don't ever seem to sell as much as anticipated.

After ChiDem, do you think Best Buy would even attempt such a thing? As much as I hate to admit it, the WalMart thing is a much better deal for any group...plenty of exposure, tons of WM locations and WM tends to really push the album in their stores.

AC/DC is in a different niche then CF. There AC/DC.
Units moved are certainly gonna be a jawing point with some folks. But I agree DD, not a good fit at all. I'm buying the album even it's from a guy selling them out of the side door of a Dodge Tradesman. The tour is gonna be out o' sight for those of us attending it.
Bring on the swag!!

Limiting distribution to one source isn't a good business decision unless you're selling something that requires special handling, like an exotic car.

Or the sole retailer guarantees the sales upfront. I heard AC/DC made a 2 or 3 million CD sale to WM and that was guaranteed to them...
If that is true...well who could pass that up?

I hate these freakin' exclusives. I can't buy an album if I don't shop at a certain store. Pathetic.

Do you think we will be able to just order it off their site? Or at Amazon? I just rather order it online and have it waiting for me when I get in from work.:)

If it is a Best Buy exclusive, you could probably order it from their site. I'd prefer it not be an exclusive deal, but that has been the trend as of late.

I'm sure these exclusive deals have an appropriate business rationale, but I personally HATE them. I hardly buy anything from physical retail stores anymore other than food and some clothes. Plus, living in San Francisco, all the national chain stores are in BFE.
I almost wrote a big rant here of hatred towards big chain, retail shopping, but it ended up just being salty, cranky, old-man stuff:

Okay...Chickenfoot played at a BestBuy event at their HQ's.
I think it's safe to say that this will probably a BestBuy exclusive.
But that's what I think.

Agreed. Particularly if it is Wal-Mart. If this was an exclusive deal at Wal-Mart then it will be a sad day for me because I will not break my Wal-Mart embargo for anything...not even this album.

Unfortunately the music industry is becoming more and more a consumer nightmare. Bought any concert tickets lately?? Between pre-sales for fan clubs, presales for people with American Express or Citi, and now Live Nation's involvement it's become a fucking nightmare to be a fan.

You obviously do not know the pure venom and hatred that I hold for Wal-Mart. Wouldn't walk through the front door...I would be willing to wait until it was available elsewhere for purchase.

It'll be on I-tunes too, so I guess best buy just has a physical CD exclusivity. If its a best buy exclusive, at least it will get some marketing from best buy.

i prefer to just buy records/cds online. It's always in stock, no parking issues, no lines, no loud music blaring, no crowds. Even if it is a best buy exclusive, it will be online either through Best Buy or copies will inevitably be on ebay or amazon within a day or two. I MIGHT run into Best Buy early sunday to avoid the people if that's the ONLY way to go, but I hope I can score it online.

And I don't end up with a Blu-ray player or a new digital camera to go along with the new CD. :D

:spit: Man, if that ain't the truth. The wife cringes whenever I go anywhere near an electronics store.

Your embargo is working well- Company growing, employing millions of people worldwide, profits soaring, American's favorite place to shop, providing cheap prescription drugs. Keep up the good work.

I've never been to a Wal-Mart. I don't like chain stores that much, though I won't say I've never shopped at any. I just think of Wal-Mart as the iconic symbol of the end of the "little guy." I always shop at Mom and Pop stores whenever possible.
I have nothing against Best Buy, but I think it's kind of lame that you are forcing people to go down one avenue to buy something they want, especially if they want it right away.

kinda like how the US embargo on Cuba has done wonders at removing Castro from power and bringing about democracy!;)

I like mom and pop stores too and I think we still have two of those left where I live. A lot of people wanted to keep the cars of the roads because the scared the horses. Ultimately we are better of that those holding on to keep the streets safe for horses lost out lest I be waking up at 4 am to get my f'n horse ready to take me to work.

Interesting. I don't remember saying I was trying to run them out of business...I just know "I" feel better every day that I don't spend a dime in there. If people knew the real stories behind the giant then they might think just a little bit more about where they shop. And on a happier note....
