So, who's the worst fit for the band for whom they tried to fill in the shows of a mighty vocalist?

Hard to say. Blaze lasted two albums, and X-Factor wasn't a bad album. Can't say the same for VH3.

However, I hear that Gary did a good job on the classic VH songs. Can't say the same about Blaze. His voice sucked on the 1998 tour.

I don't expect too many replies...

I don't know who Blaze is isn't he from a deck of Old Maid cards? But I will say Gary Cherone is a great singer and person. He was at his finest during the Pornograffitti tour in 1991 his voice was top notch! Has anyone here ever seen Extreme live in Rio on tape? His voice is smooth and clean. He was on fire. Then he got gritty vocal-wise for Waiting For The Punchline and VH III. I think everyone agrees here that his home base is with Extreme and Dave with Van Halen. But I would have loved to hear more with Gary/VH.HOLY FUCK!!!!!!!! UNCHAINED JUST CAME ON WHJY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Bye!!!!!!!

I've never heard of X-Factor or Blaze Bailey. Enlighten me.

I personally don't think Gary was a bad fit in Van Halen. I liked the album, and the show in Sacramento was spectacular. The guys on stage were having a blast.

He sounded great on the Roth era tunes, but not so great on the Hagar ones. He rocked on When It's Love and Humans Being though.

The album stuff from 3 sounded so much better live. It's a shame that there won't be another album.

I kinda wondered if anyone would know who Blaze Bailey is. Personally, I haven't really followed Iron Maiden in years, and I like VH III, so I guess I can't really answer the question.

I was waiting to see if anybody would know his name. Blaze was Iron Maiden's singer from 1994 to 1998.

How about John Corabi in Crue? That was pretty horrible!

Actually, I thought that Motley Crue album with John Corabi had a few cool tunes. Hooligan's Holiday, Misunderstood, Poison Apples and Hammered are all good songs.

Georgie - Oh yeah, definitely. He easily overshadows Gary & Blaze IMHO. The songs I heard of this Crue incarnation were all horrible pseudo-grunge attempts.

I never got to listen to any wolfsbane but I heard that his voice fits that band perfectly. I dowladed a few songs from his latest band, simply called "Blaze". Pretty cool metal songs, similar to Painkiller - era Judas Priest. Blaze's voice is awesome on those songs.

Like Gary for VH, Blaze didn't fit Maiden. His live renditions of Bruce songs were for the most parts, horrible.

By the way, I never mentionned it, but I DID like a few songs from Extreme. Especially Rest In Peace. God that song kicks ass, and Gary's voice fits that style to a T.

I don't know why people weren't more sympathetic towards Gary. I mean come on he has a hole in his heart that can only be filled by you.
(I'm sorry it's late and I had to say something corny)http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/tongue.gif LOL
Gary live wasn't too bad. He was pretty decent on the VH MTV thing they did in Australia. Didn't I hear in an earlier thread that his singing voice was changed because of some surgery he had???

I got 2 MP3s from Silicon Messiah, his solo album. The songs are cacthy but the sound quality is horrible though. The album isn't released yet. Don't know if it will make it to the states. If you want them, my ICQ# is 1201811.

About the Maiden reunion tour: Bruce sang 3 Blaze-era songs, did an excellent job on 2 of them.

No guys. Gary Cherone is definitely better than Blaze. While I hate him for taking the chair place in Van Halen that became once again another band, his voice is soooo better than Blaze's.
Blaze live is the worse singer I ever heard. Gary live has a great voice still.

He actually was OK on the 1996 shows but messed up quite a few lyrics from the Bruce era songs. His 1998 shows were horrible though.

I have to agree Spanish, though I didn't get to see the 1996 shows. But actually replacing Bruce is the most difficult task on earth. Bruce has such a distinctive voice and showmanship. Blaze got a low key voice, Iron changed with him. Different band... I share the same thoughts as one of my friends, who played bass on one of the latest Iron Maiden tribute cds...

Just got back from the Monaco Grand Prix, the women down South of France way are very nice indeed!!! F1 wasn't bad either.
Anyway, Blaze was great in Wolfsbane, I remember my mates and I use to talk about how he kinda looked like Steve then the next thing you know he is in Maiden, I can't say I liked Blaze in Maiden I didn't really like the 2 albums he did with them, glad Bruce is back with Maiden, and Blaze covering Bruce songs just didn't work his vocal range was too limited, he was more suited to Paul Dianno era songs.
Gary was great live with VH, and I don't mind 3, it was different, not my favourite album in the world by a long shot, but parts of it I like.
I know Wolfsbane were pissed at Blaze when he left, whether they get back together again remains to be seen, I guess Blaze had his shot and it didn't work out, whether he gets a second chance - who knows.
Another intersting thing, Maiden were on Top of the Pops a really poppy Britney Spears kinda show on here in England, really funny, Maiden went in and blasted these tenny boppers to bits, wish I had taped it http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

Yeah I have some of the Blaze songs that Bruce did on the 2 Wickerman singles, Man on the Edge sounds really good with Bruce, I prefer it than the original.

"All Hells Breaking Loose Down at Kathy Wilson's Place" Ep by Wolfsbane is the only album I heard from these guys but it was pretty good if you are interested in checking them out, it should be in the bargain bins by now.
I think Steve liked them when Wolfsbane opened for Maiden on Fear of the Dark tour, hence Blaze coming in when Bruce left. I am told live the band were really good, but the albums don't quite capture that energy - Sadly a case I believe with 3 compared with the live tour with VH.

Hey Spanish Doc,
Someone told me that Run To THe Hills was a remake. And wasn't originally a Iron Maiden song is that true?
I don't know anything about Blaze, but I am a Huge Extreme fan! And Gary is a great singer with Extreme. And I thought he would be better with VH. I love Dirty Water Dog and Without You, and Gary sang all the Dave songs well, but I didn't like the way he sang Sammy VH songs.

Actually it was written By Harris & Dickinson, but Bruce was uncredited in the Number Of The Beast album because by contract, every song he would have wrote at this time would have belonged to his previous band, Samson, or something to that effect.

Bruce co-wrote 4 tracks on NOTB: Children Of The Damned, The Prisoner, Run To The Hills, Gangland.

What has happened to Martin Birch, has he retired? I guess he must be getting on a bit now, maybe the technology has left him behind, but at the time the work he did with Deep Purple and Maiden amongst others were great.

He retired in the late 80's but still kept doing records for Maiden. Now he's retired for good. Can't say I miss him.
