View Full Version : Bitten By The Wolf

This thread is dedicated to the investigation of where the track "Bitten By The Wolf" can be found. It was announced to be on the album, and now it's gone. The title sounds really cool, like "Out Of The Ether" did in its time. However that's another track no one ever got to hear. I hope the same thing doesn't happen to BBTW. It might be used as a European or Japanese bonus track?

Does sound like a cool title,Wasnt Out of the Ether a instrumental or was that Someday, wouldnt mind hearing them again

I think "Ether" was an instrumental and featured as a B side on the Little White Lie single.

"Wolf" may also have been a working title that changed and appears on the CD as something else in its final incarnation.

Random thought: Think about "Bitten by the Wolf" in relation to Mike being ousted from VH and replaced by Wolfgang....Hmmmmmmmmmm.....

it's very common for songs to go through a couple of name changes in the course of working it out before it actually makes the album

Changing the title of "Bitten By The Wolf" could've happened - unfortunately it's such a cool title, it would be a real pity.

I don't think "Out Of The Ether" was an instrumental, it was recorded as a complete track along with another one and left off F.U.C.K.

Apart from "I Want Some Action," none of the Sam-era unreleased tracks have ever been leaked.

bitten by the wolf...
bitten bitten bitten
kicked out into the night
only lost one little mitten

bitten by the wolf
my love sleeps in the kitchen
kibbles and bits and choker chains
when the moon is full she's gone

bitten by the wolf
the skunk left in the garden
the rifle and the hearth of home
my wolf is in the yard alone

tonights the night... tonights the ni.i.i.ite

Not sure what this dude's background is, yet he made some interesting points in another thread...

means.
By the way, the working band name, "Echo Vault" that Chickenfoot was considering last year was dropped because the abbreviations were too close. EV, EVH.

Also another tidbit of info on the song "Bitten By The Wolf" Was originally called "The Lone Wolf" but now it seems that they might have scrapped that song altogether.

17 times 7, thats 119 in dog years
all those lemons in the eyes, yet no tears
slip and slidin', pushin' it in
my banana on her cherry, I'm all in
Its about time, yes its mine all mine
the good ole days, remember, 5150 time?
The picture in an empty room, take me back deja vu
Yes it was me, I ate one too.

Tonights about me and not your hip,
I was doing a shot of Cabo, missed Janet's nipple slip
Diamonds delight the girl, cheese binds her up
It feels so good, I don't wanna Get Up
Ya, I got dreams, but I ain't no sucker
I don't have a 3 piece, you stupid fucker
I got my buddy Mike, we know whats up

Ether is an instrumental, and definitely off the MTM sessions. Out of the Ether was an incomplete VH tune I think.

usually for good reason, I don't think he would go after wolfie.....he's never said a bad word about him (in fact he went out of his way to say he was a "cool kid" and he loves him, same with Alex)...sam's problem is with Ed and I don't even think you'll see him address that in anything chickenfoot related.

Of course I do, those jabs at Ed weren't low at all to me, they were inuendos so they weren't explicitly insulting ala Randy Savage "Be a Man Hulk!", lol. Eddie deserved every one of those jabs, and I think Hagar is smart enough to know that Wolfgang had nothing to do with Ed's idiocy.

Both of those songs off MTM are great, but I was specifically referring to insulting the 17 year old kid, he can go to town on Ed all he wants, but I also think he's past that stage. I don't count Hagar citing Ed's alcoholism as a serious problem as him bashing him.

overt jabs at the VH camp would just seem...well...silly and even a bit pathetic at this point. It's one thing to do so fresh out of the mess as a solo artist but he's in a band now. No reason to drag Joe, Mike and Chad through some back and forth with VH...as an audience member, I would find it out of place to say the least and more than a bit off-putting. Again, as a solo artist, flame away...but he's in a new band now...one that will rival Led Zeppelin, no reason to fool around with lowly Van Halen version 3/4.

I wish it was more clear, but on the best buy website, it says when you order the vinyl copy, you'll get instructions to get a digital copy aswell. Now... Bitten by a wolf is Vinyl only, does that mean you'll get digital copy of that song aswell!? That would lead me to beleive it will most certainly be on Itunes.

Hopefully that is nothing like the recorded version, because that didn't sound good at all. I know its a you tube video, but the song itself just didn't do anything for me. I thought someone earlier was saying how great that song was and I was really looking forward to hearing it. Major letdown. The worst of them all so far, by far.:(

Just some friendly advice: I think you should probably wait before making grand pronouncements and judgments after listening to a pretty poor live recording of a song for, at most, only a few times. I can't even make out most of the song so I'm reserving judgment until I hear a high-quality version of the CD version. Plus, the song isn't even going to be on the CD -- it's bonus song for the vinyl format.

Some songs just don't do it for all of us (e.g., CF's "Soap On A Rope" is weak IMO and I've listened to it at least a dozen times). But there are many songs I came to love over the years that didn't do it for me the first few times I heard them either (e.g., "Top Jimmy," "Mine All Mine") that I eventually ended up loving. I'm sure I'm not alone with this view. You may still come to the same judgment about "Bitten By The Wolf" later, but I think you should hold back from making definitive statements so early on, especially when you haven't heard a CD-quality recording of the CD version. Hey, for all I know, I may agree with your original opinion after I hear a high-quality version of the song.

I understand your side and know the sound quality is not good on these videos. I also know some songs you have to listen to several times to get into them. This song will sound better on the LP, but compared to a few others I've heard this one is nothing special, but then again it could be the live performance.
When it comes to Sammy, he's very hit and miss with me. Some songs he just fits while others he doesn't. It wasn't only Sammy that I didn't like about this song, nobody stuck out, it just sounded very average at best for me.
I might like the recorded version more who knows.

I'll solve the mystery......... It is a bad ass tune. I heard it live in seattle ! It could of easily been wrapped in the CD somewhere. Knowing they were going to do a vinyl release needed something to ell it. Just a smart move. Joe is using I believe a baritone on top of a 6 string. All the You tube videos sound thin.
This song plays a little more into the Zeplinish style Deep south blues. I would not doubt if they even had more Zeplinish tunes written in that direction musically, but did not want to overdue it. Zep had a song in this same flavor as any true Zep fan would already know that. Another bad ass tune live is future in the past, killer guitar. Joe is just so accurate live ! Bottom line with this band and what makes them so great is no one sticks out ! The comment about no body sticks out by that moron critic ( Not you 10 high ) in the other thread that got locked could not be more ignorant. They all stick out. They all are paying hard and even. That is what makes a great band !!! Not one or two guys trying to be heroes. Duh !

I agree nobody should stick out, but in a lot of bands certain people do. Thats just the way it is. When SOAR came out I thouht Joe, Mike, and Chad stood out in a good way and Sammy not so much. "Get it up" is a good example where everybody in that song came together and made it a solid tune. Just my opinion.

I found it interesting. The country bass part that Mike employs in a few sections is truly different from anything I've heard him do before. Perhaps the group felt it did not fit the immediate overall feel of the album. I disagree, as the very fact that it is so different would have been a plus for the flow of things, particularly if inserted somewhere earlier in the track listing.

They are interesting clips, as due the position they were recorded, you primarily hear the guitar and little else. The effect is quite revelatory, as you can clearly discern the at times quite complex parts that Satch is playing.

Fuckin' great. Fun, foot-tappin' tune that kicks the fuckin door in toward the end. That's seven full tracks I've heard so far. This is looking to be the most sonically perfect rock album I've heard since Balance.

It is the same group of guys that have their old copies of Circus magazine, with David lee roth in chaps, that their pages stick together ! :D
:sssh:

Hey I resemble that remark! :D

You forgot to mention Creem and Hit Parader.

I heard the live version numerous times. Won't be able to hear the studio version until I go to my buddy's and break out the ol' turntable.

Anyone got a digital mp3 download they can throw my way so I can crank it on the ol' iPod?

At least if you buy the LP you get the digital download of this song, so its not entirely lost!

For the record, I have now heard the studio version of "Bitten By The Wolf" on the Chickenfoot Web site and though it took a few listens, I'm digging the tune. I'm actually surprised because I wasn't that crazy about it at first either. But it's a nice change of pace compared to the other tunes on the CD (which I also purchased yesterday like many here) and shows you the range of music this band can play. I think an EP in which they played only blues tunes like BBTW would be well-received by this fan. :thumb:

Doesnt really fit the rest of the disc, but it's a fun song regardless. :thumb:

I agree. It definitely makes sense to include it as a bonus track, like they did.

I bought the cd on Friday, I'd love to buy BBTW but it's not availible as a single purchase on ITunes, I'll prolly have to wait until someone puts it on youtube but I'd buy it in a minute.

I love this tune. First couple times I heard it I wasn't thrilled with the backup melody thing but that has grown on me. I love the music and the Vamp theme of the tune. Truly cool imo. I'm bummed it's not on the normal CD but you can get it on itunes, etc..:) CF makes cool music. They should use this tune on that HBO show True Blood.
