Unchained- Classic opening riff that could POUND the shit out of everyone in the arena. Plus Dave could always ad a "(insert name of city) ARE YOU READDDDDDDDDY"!!!!!!

OR

Hot For Teacher: This has already been done, kind of, on Daves solo 99 tour. I think this would work perfectly. Imagine the lights going off in the arena, and then hearing the opening drums. As the drums kick in, lights start flashing all over the arena, in sync with the drums. Then the lights shine on the stage, with Dave standing on the drum riser. He says "HEY (insert city name) I HEARD YA MISSED ME, IM BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK" and BOOM, the band kicks in high hear with full guns blarin.

What would you pick?

I would have to say "UNCHAINED" would be my choice of the two. Althought, I believe that the perfect opener is "ROMEO DELIGHT".

I like "Hot For Teacher" more. It's one of my favorite VH songs, while "Unchained", oddly, isn't. I would have to go with "Unchained", however, because it's a more defining song for the band. It's perfect for an opener and almost every VH fan loves that song. It's perfect for their return.

The lights are dim. All of a sudden you hear the intro to Mean Streets then BAM! Dave comes flying while the pyro is going off. The stage has the huge VH emblem lit behind the band 'ala 78-80.

Tough one...unchained would be a great opener...but almost too good...I think that'd be the high point of the show too early. I'd say open with Hot for Teacher and save Unchained for a little later.

Unchained by far, it's not only one of the best Van Halen songs, but one of the best songs in rock.

I would have to go with Hot For Teacher only because they opened with Unchained on the last tour and I think think that Unchained is a better encore song.

I think Hot For Techer would be cool because of the drums and Hammer Ons at the beginning..

I agree completely.

Unchained happens to be my favorite Van Halen song ever (if I was forced to choose only one) but it was kinda ruined as an opener after being used on the VD III fiasco.

For this tour...Hot for Teacher would be....AMAZING! Unchained has been used already.....I don't want to see the 84 tour all over again...even thought I wasn't there to see it in the first place....

Like it's a perfect opening song...the drums....the opening guitar soloing....then they could pause like Dave did in his solo band.....then he could say something.....then they could kick into the song.....!!!!

I like the idea of no lights, curtain up, some crackle, some low drums, then progressive on the volume to hear the double bass pounding, extending a few measures beyond original, then the blazing guitar intro, with the lights now following the guitar, then drop curtain, flaming gong, and Diamond with the "Perminent Smile" signaling lift off! Pow! Straddle kick of the riser "whaddaya think the crowd is gonna look like this year". Whoa! Then the reset will be history! Wait til the end for the song everybody wants to hear, all will be crazy for Unchained. "Everybody Up", flaming gong once again, and a Van Halen ending that takes 10 minutes to complete! Oh yeah, I'm ready!:thumb:

I think Runnin' With The Devil is the perfect opening song.

This is funny, cause in the movie Mighty Wind, they put the joke in that the group that was in that movie opened their show with their "hit". and that in the industry that was taboo too open with your biggest song cause where do you go from there but down? So when I saw VH in 04 what did they hit the stage with?? Jump!! I laughed when they did that cause the first thing I thought of was that movie and I literally turned to my wife and went.. where do they go from here? haha

So Dave... open with Jump haha just to mess with people.

Unchained (although I LOVE this song) has the whole Been There-Done That thing going for the opener.

I thought "Running with the Devil" after watching the US Festival dvd but after watching the Montreal 84 dvd I have to say UNCHAINED. I don't expect to see the jump off the Riser but it still will be cool. I never seen any DLR VH in person or solo DLR so it's not warn out to me.

Personally I'd say On Fire or Light Up The Sky, really wake people up.

If I had to choose between HFT and Unchained: Unchained.

Half the time, the only reason I listen to Hot For Teacher is because of the awesome intro. So, intro wise, I'd say HFT wins. When I first heard the song I was in my car and thought some motorcyclist had pulled up next to me.. then Ed SHREDDEDDD:headbang:

I would say unchained, i think of the concert music video mtv used to play back in the day from the fair warning tour when they just jam out and alex smashes the flaming gong at the end of the tune. But the opening riff is just a killer start. And yes Dave could announce the city name....Hello "KANSAS CITY,,,,WE'RE BAAAAAACK!" go ed go right into shreeding.

Unchained all the way, not even a close call! Flat out still the only song that can make the hair on my arms stand on end when I hear the intro! :headbang:

Wish they were using it to open the current tour, but I won't complain!
