Here are some of my choices for best opening songs.. Would like to hear others ..

2) Hot For Teacher
3) Unchained

With Sam ...
1) Poundcake
2) Good Enough
3) A.F.U.

When I saw the FUCK tour and Eddie did the electric drill thing, it was a great start to the concert.

Never saw them with Dave, but the Oakland show where Dave comes off the drum riser with Unchained is absolutely amazing. Puts a giant smile on my face everytime I see it.

Ed6150, check out this idea that I had a while back for a Dave intro and tell me what you think. Either in the dark or with very minimal light, they play the start of "Dirty Movies" for a couple of minutes and then really break into it. Just a thought.

The best opening song I have heard them do is "On Fire" That is a pedal to the medal song that gets everyone on their feet....

well im the youngest out of all of you so i only saw them on the 3 tour. i have ALL van halen and boots and everything! and i have to say, out of all the opening songs, unchained rocks! it really gets you going! i remember when their famous announcer guy came on and ed tore into unchained! me and my friend stared at each other and were like oh shit! awesome!

'Unchained' has always been a favorite
opener for me. 'Poundcake' was cool with the power drill intro (mentioned before).
If Dave is back with VH and they do tour,
hearing 'Unchained' as an opener again wouldn't bother me.

Some ideas:

1.) You Really Got Me
2.) Romeo Delight
3.) DOA
4.) Jump

If they do a reunion tour with Dave I'd like them to open with Mean Street, or On Fire. That'd be cool.

Whatever they open with, before the lights go up, Dave should say, "Hey I heard ya missed us, we're baaack!" Then they could go into anything that would rip your head off. And of course, Mean Streets or Unchained unless there's one off the new CD that would work better. We have to keep that in mind. A new tour with a new CD.

Unfuckingchained is Awesome, but they have done that before. I think they should start off with Big Al warming up the crowd for a minute or two with the beginning of Hot For Teacher and rip into that.

I can't remember if I saw somewhere that they opened on one of their tours with "Right Now", and it's certainly not one of my faves, but I do like the piano work and it would be cool to just have Edward on stage alone just bangin' out the piano part and the rest of the band joins him and they segue into something cool.

UNCHAINED certainly kicked some major butt on VHIII tour 5/27/98 Helsinki, FI.

I agree with you PanamaDog. Hot For Teacher would be awesome opener if they tour with Dave. Unchained was great on the 3 tour. Poundcake was a great opener too. Right Now should have been in the midlleof the set list on the Balance tour. IMO

I'd prefer to keep Hot for Teacher for mid-end show.
I'd really die to see them play I'm the One as the kickstart.

A while back someone suggested opening with Runnin' With the Devil. It would be all dark and the sound of car horns would get louder and louder and louder and suddenly Mike kicks in with the bass... THAT would be awesome.

Another thought I had on my way to Denver was a darkened stage, then suddenly small torches flare up around the drum kit as Alex starts a jungle beat. In the darkness, an unseen DLR lets out some Tarzanian wails, while out of the shadows steps Edward Van Halen torturing his guitar, making it scream. Finally Michael and Dave appear and they're off and running with "Everybody Wants Some!!"
