View Full Version : The Best Led Zeppelin Album Is???
Funny, I have all of the Zep albums, but I have to be in a very specific mood to listen to them. The best two, IMO, are Physical Graffiti and III, but if I could only pick one it would be III.

Hmmm---really? I would have to go with IV without question, even though it is their most well-known, with PHYS. GRAF. a close second.

I like Led Zeppelin 3 and 4 the best! I think I would say 4 because of STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN.
Led Zep 2 or Physical Graffiti

I would have to go with Led Zep IV on ths one. It's just a classic album, maybe the best ever made. You might hear any song off that album on the radio at any time and it would be just as good as the first time you heard the song.
Zeppelin never really made a "bad" album (Coda wasn't a real album) so it's hard to narrow it down to just one. I'm going with Houses of the Holy, just so somebody says something other than IV.
And while I fully expect to get flamed for this, I think "Over the Hills and Far Away" is a far better song than Stairway... Or maybe I'm just burned out after hearing it called the "greatest fucking song in history" for the last 29 years?

Over the Hills and Far Away is definately one of my favorites. Like you said FORD, Stairway is so well known, that one is inclined to pick other songs over it.

I'd have to agree there. While Stairway Is A mega cool tune OTHAFA is a better song. My favorite Zep album is either 1 or Physical Graffitti depending on the day!

I like Presence. Nobody's Fault But Mine is one of my favorite rock tunes. Always wanted to hear VH cover it.
Believe it or not, the best cover I ever heard of "Nobody's Fault But Mine " is by The 77's . They sound more like Zep on this song than Kingdom Come, Great White, C*******e or any of the other cheezy 80's Zep wanna be's could ever hope for. (They are not Zep clones themselves, only on this one song)
I don't expect anyone here has ever heard of these guys, but they are seriously the most under rated band in America, and probably the third best band to ever come out of California, with only Van Halen and Black Flag ahead of them.

My favorite rendition of "Nobody's Fault But Mine" is by Blind Willie Johnson.
I read the Van Halen did cover NFBM in the club days but it was credited to Edgar Winter or Johnny Winter. So I don't know if one of them(I think Edgar)did their own tune or covered the classic blues. If VH did do it and it ever surfaces, could you imagine Ed doin' the heavy intro? HOLY SMOKES! Didn't the Shake my tree riff come from that intro?
I think Page and Plant did cool versions of NFBM!
And Led Zep revved up cool versions during their '80 tour!
The album version is so sweet!
I don't dig the Dead version of the tune.

This is actually an impossible task for me. Each album is an epic in and of itself, and I just can't choose. I guess the one I listen to least is In Through The Out Door. All of the others get HEAVY rotation in my cd players. If there was no Van Halen, then I would be TOTALLY devoted to the mighty Zep. As it is now though, I'm torn between the two. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

It is hard to pick a fav, but if I could only take one to a deserted island it would have to be Physical Graffiti.

This is hard. I'd have to say Physical Graffiti, then Presence, Song Remains the Same, Houses of the Holy, III, IV.
Where's that confounded bridge!

Has to be the fourth album - only one that I like every song a lot. Some of the other albums that have great songs also have songs that don't do it for me such as "The Crunge", "In My Time Of Dying". I like II as well, and In Through The Out Door though "Carouselambra" is a bit much.

Funny story WAY back in the day when I first got into Led Zep. I really liked the song Hey,Hey What can I do. Time past and I continued to buy their albums looking for the song. After I had their whole collection I realized its not on any album LOL
PS I was quite young at the time...
My Favorite Album is PRESENCE

That's better than trying to find the Led Zeppelin album that contained "Fire On High"! Ouch!
I still like the first album the best.

I remember my third sememester in college and I went to my roomates hometown. Middle of Podunk USA. Nuthin to do, nowhere to go. I was the casual Zep fan but that night...we just mellowed out to Physical Grafitti. I heard that cd in ways I had never heard before. Intoxication helps let me tell you. To this day, when I listen to that cd, It takes me right back. Other than that, I love "In the Evening"!

FORD you are 100% right. The mighty Zeppelin NVER put out a bad album IMO. I love 'em all but if I had to pick a favorite it would be Physical Graffiti, followed closely by Houses Of The Holy and III.
Good topic!
Shit, this is too damn hard!
I'll just go with my favorite boot (which has a VH connection by virtue of it's title):
Listen To This Eddie (3CD)--the sound is amazing and full, in-your-face, even more so considering the technology in '77!
