Are we talking all around drummers, or metal/rock drummers. Cause rock drumming has traditionally resided within a set parameter, with the exception of a few choice drummers. When it comes to subdivision, phrasing, odd-time, or polyrhythmic combinations, you can't beat drummers like, Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Bill Stewart, Dennis Chambers, Dave Wekyl, etc... I don't mean to be a dick, but rock drummers, especially the ones on this list, take alot of their style from various non-rock drummers, and I think exposure to all kinds of music is healthy and educational. These lists are full of impressive names, backed by impressive bands, but they really just skate on the surface of what is out there. Check out the latest trend in young drummers out of New York city's jazz underground. Some truly mind-warping shit like you ain't never heard.
