Hi VHers, --
What would you love to see for new VH t-shirt merchandise on tour? I've done some work for the boys, and if you have some great input it could be useful...
Thanks

What I think would be absolutely fun AND cool to have is one of those old T shirts that used to have a Les Paul positioned on the front as if the person wearing the shirt is actually wearing a Les Paul but replace it with the Frankenstrat.
NOT the no-Michael Anthony/phased in Wolfgang VH 1 album cover. That's leaving a bad taste in the mouths of the better part of Van Halen fans.
I'd say keep the nostalgia to a minimum. Since the band has declared it a "new band," follow that philosophy and work with new design concepts and/or photos of the current line-up.

Considering the tour is only a month and a half away, I would say they already have their tour merchandise taken care of, so this topic is bogus and useless to your help request.

Yes something new and nothing that shits on any of the legacy of the band.
A cool tour book is what I would like to see. Clapton's book last year had reviews of all of his previous tours and it was great.
They should record every show and sell them or give it away for free via their official site. That's how we who are not able to come to the shows could enjoy this hopefully amazing new live music with Dave.
If they want to charge for it that's fine. I think there are lots of fans who are willing to pay to get some decent sounding live Van Halen. Not some shitty bootlegs.
Stickers or decals for the car.
A shirt with the 4 of them on it.
A shirt with the design of the splash page of the official site.
I like the idea of bootlegs from the shows.

They could do like the Allman Brothers Band does and record every show and offer the shows for sale on their website. I'm sure they could strike a deal with that same company that does that.

How about a Sweatshirt or Hooded sweatshirt ( White ) with something simple such as the classic logo along with a simple statement 2007 tour or whatever they are calling the tour this time.

Yeah, but I was pointing out that there is a company that handles the recording for the ABB that they could contact. Plus Joker suggested free, which they would never do. (Not that they would record each show and sell them either.)

Excatly. I just saw Metallica a month ago in Helsinki and bought the whole 2 1/2 hour show afterwards for 9,95 $. They have lots of downloads on their site, some of the shows are for free. It's cheaper to the band to do it this way than release a cd of every show like Pearl Jam did some years ago.
I think they are recording the shows anyway. So why just sell them. They could get couple of extra bucks. And that's one of the reasons they are touring I suppose...

A brand new 'wings' VH logo, not just retreads of the VH 1 or VH 2 wings album cover logos.
Update for the 'new band' accordingly.

A VH jersey would be pretty cool. I'm sure more VH-striped items will be made available. I'm expecting t-shirts to be somewhat pricey. I saw Tool earlier this year and the shirts were all about $38 a piece.

I found some great tour shirts including Van Halen on ebay that were made for women. Victorious Pirate is the ebay sellers name. She takes official tour shirts and tailors them to a womans figure. I have bought my wife quite a few for all the different shows we've been to and she loves them. Check it out.
Now for the VH merchandise. I personally like shirts with the tour dates on the back. I think the new old logo they are using is great. It is time to retire the rings logo. That was the Sammy era which is not being represented for this tour. Maybe something like a collage with the old album covers, some cool hats like winter skull caps (no trucker caps please) or even the old painters caps like they had back in 82 & 84. Bring back the tour programs too.

Wouldn't it be nice to see t-shirts for, say $15? They'd make a killing, because so many more people would buy one. Nobody wants to pay $30-$40 for a shirt. I know people will, but I certainly won't. Not after the hole in my wallet this show has given me...

I doubt the authenticity of these 'World Tour 2007" shirts considering there is no Van Halen 2007 world tour happening. Perhaps they should fake some shirts for the North American 2007 tour. Then they might fool somebody.

I can assure you they are not "fake". We were asked to create shirts for the upcoming tour, but that was months ago. After the tour was canceled our project also was, but these are what came out of it. We aren't even sure what's happening with them, as no one has told us anything on if they're being printed or not. They might have had others made since.
hope it clears it up.

I'm hoping for a good mix of some new designs with some retro/classic designs from past tours.
Album covers would be cool too (ones without Mike of course).
Like if they sold a shirt with the Fair Warning cover, that'd be really cool --- or a reproduction of the 1982 Lion with the shades design, etc.
I really hope there is a tour book with full color pics (which is possible based on those professional shots taken recently).

Here's what I know:
There are a few more approved designs than those shown here. My favorite shows a pinup girl holding ed's guitar, at the bottom it says 'runnin' with the devil, since '78"
I also hear the online strore MAY offer different tees than those on tour.
I did tons of designs for the tour, but they didn't pick some of my favorites, unfortunately. I did get my art on al's drums though-- so i'm not complaining...

Lack shirt with a new Vh wing logo in gold writing. HAs a crown on the top. Old school black vh logo t shirt. All 35 Bucks. Theres a black hoodie for like 45 with the gold vh logo/crown design. Women's shirts; 2 styles. Red with a small VH log and Van Halen written on front. Pink on with Van Halen written on front. They are kind of like baby dolls with a tapered cut. Both 40 bucks. There are no tour books. There is a bumper sticker that has the logo on it and it says 'I Can Barely See The Road' on it. 10 bucks for that. Other than the Marley T's that is it. Pretty good stuff.

Buy the $10 shirt outside the venue!!! Tip, literally check the size before you pay!
$35 for any t-shirt is way too much! I spent enough for the tickets.

This was posted at vh@yahoogroups regarding the t-shrts sold at the shows:
"but I wanted to give y'all a heads-up about the current
Tee-Shirts. Some of the graphics are really cool.....& I've got no big
problem paying for an overpriced shirt, as long as it's quality..... but
these shirts are the cheapest rags I've ever seen. And, as they said at
the table...'they run small'...that' s a freaking undestatement. I
bought an XL, which is always what I wear, I'm not a huge guy.....I
tried to exchange for a XXL, but they didn't have ANY. Honestly, this
XL is barely a Large. I can't wear it at all.....so I threw away
$35.....which double sux with these ridiculous ticket prices we're
paying these days. I left the show feeling blown away, only to feel a

Hey guys,
I bought 3 shirts (1 for me and 2 for friends). I got the shirt with the pin up girl above and it's cool but they really are thin. The material will not lasy years of wear. I recently bought a shirt from VH Gear site and that is much better qua;ity for $35.
Just my thoughts....I still had to buy a shirt...even if the quality is worse than I had hoped.
I left the show feeling blown away, only to feel a
little screwed the next day when I 'tried' to put this shirt on.

There is also a black hoodie with the same eagle design (top left in the pic) on it for $65.
Also, I didn't see it mentioned, the baseball hat comes in black and khaki for (hold on to your hat.....................) $35, that's right, $35!! I bought one anyway since I'm a hat guy.
There is also a black Ski hat beanie with a red VH logo on the front for I think $25. A VH logo wrist band $10, and of course the eagle design tote bag for $15.:headbang:

I'll chime in and say that absolutely, these are the cheapest, thinnest, smallest T-shirts in the history of the earth.
Seriously...Wal Mart thinks these shirts are cheap.
I bought a small pink VH shirt for my daughter, thinking that since she's young, she could grow into it.
It fits her now....AND SHE IS FOUR.
Wife got a men's large...yeah, she has big hooters, but a men's large should be big on her....it was tight.
I went for 3XL. I'm 6'4", 250+, and I bought 3XL and am afraid to wash it.

Most likely, a good portion of these will end up at The Van Halen Store either before the tour is over, or shortly after, and for much less than $35.

Some of my favorite shirts from the day, the 80's was knock off VH shirts with creative graphics. They are all long thrown out hehe but they were the coolest part of leaving the show in the day. Walking around and hunting down the coolest ones. Hey I was a teenager. I know the bands don't like it but there's something rock and roll about pirate t-shirts, well at least there was in 1982. hehe I kinda got that feeling again when leaving the VH show on 10/1 but I refrained. I don't think I've even heard of Tultex. When they go cheap, they sure dig deep. I thought they'd be Gildan tees, which are inexpensive but undersized.

hi guys
for some legal reason, they weren't allowed to reissue the hammer guy or lion sunglasses designs. also couldn't use the old album covers. by the way, FEA merch is the company making the tees. thinner/fitted tees are the trend across the industry these days-- it really isn't to rip us off. i happen to know that more than 100 designs were pitched to the boys (dave and al do the merch reviews apparently), and these were what they liked. there was a ton of great stuff. i hear there is a *chance* there will be some 'web exclusive' tees a bit later on. some very cool options in there...

I don't know what part of the country you live in, but I've had very good luck in finding top quality "parking lot shirts" after whatever show I attend.
I've seen some really creative artwork and designs on those shirts, and been very pleased with the shirt I bought from some guy for $10 or $15.
Many of them have outlasted the official merch shirts I bought at the show, too. Including Van Halen.
I bought a really cool shirt (official merch, mind you) at a VH show in L.A. back in '92, and after the first washing the ink just cracked and peeled right off. I was pissed!
I've only encountered 1 instance where a parking lot shirt I bought was garbage. The ink faded big time after washing it twice.

Not even close.
The venue gets a nice fat cut from every sale. In fact, for some of the smaller acts, they don't sell t-shirts because the venue gets so much, and it's a pain hauling them around - only to make a buck or two for each shirt.
Case in point ~ Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush (quoting Frank himself):
I've decided not to bring merchandise anymore, because the clubs take a lot of the money and my people have to do all of the work... not to mention the expense of making them, shipping, etc.
Last time out we sold a lot of shirts. But, in the end, I was lucky if I made two or three dollars a shirt, on an item that sold for twenty dollars or more. That's way unfair, as far as I'm concerned. People told me to raise the prices, in order to make a bit more, like other bands do. And we even had to do that in some cases, because some venues insisted. But I was just not comfortable with that. So, for two bucks or so? That would be fine if we were playing arenas and selling thousands, or even large places where we could sell more. But it just isn't worth putting my guys (and my wife) through all the work for a couple of bucks.
We'll continue to offer merchandise online, and maybe we'll even sell it again one day at the shows, but that would only be if we can negotiate better terms from these clubs... some of them take a really large percentage, and have alot of ridiculous "policies."

You know something? Good for Marino. The guy "gets it", and always has. Every time that I saw him in the seventies, if the sound was a tad off, or if his performance was not quite up to par, he'd take the time to apologise to the audience. He was usually extremely gracious upon meeting "unexpected" (pardon the pun) fans, and always seemed genuinely interested in his fan's opinions.
Look, I could be wrong about the guy. Yet this has been my experience. Your mileage may vary. ;) :thumb:

I bought this shirt about four years ago and it's still in pretty good condition; so I would say that yes it is pretty good quality. It is silkscreened unlike some of the other vintage ones they have. I am talking about the one with the classic logo from VH1; it also has the small guitar and "Atomic Punk" on the back.
As a general rule, shirt quality improved in the early 90s. I still have and wear my shirts from the FUCK tour, the 93 tour, the Balance tour, and of course the 2004 tour. Giant or Anvil make the best shirts, IMO.

As far as quality when I went to see Roger Waters there were guys in the parking lot selling shirts, one came up to us I took a look at it it was a Haines shirt 100% cotton (yes I looked at the tag) and it was heavy. The printing was thick and he wanted only 10 bucks for it. Unfortunately he didn't have an x-large so I had to pass. One thing he kept sayin to people though was that the shirts inside are only one sided and his were 2 so you should buy his. Needless to say he was full of shit on that.

The printing was thick and he wanted only 10 bucks for it. Unfortunately he didn't have an x-large so I had to pass. One thing he kept sayin to people though was that the shirts inside are only one sided and his were 2 so you should buy his. Needless to say he was full of shit on that.
Hey, nothing wrong with a little salesmanship. Those guys have to hustle!
Yeah I noticed the wolfie pic must be old..cause he's got a guitar in his hands! Love that they photoshopped him in there. Maybe they got the same guys who did the MA-less album covers!

I may just buy the Vintage VH Logo shirt from the VH Store instead. I'm still waiting for Jeff's reply about the quality of said shirt.
I got tired of waiting for Jeff's reply so I went ahead and bought the vintage VH logo shirt with Ed's black and white guitar and atomic punk written underneath it from the VH Store. With the shipping and all it came to over $40 but if the swag is really that bad at the shows, then this shirt will be worth it over anything I may purchase at Nassau Coliseum next month.

Hahaha yeah really...seriously who doesn't love a bootleg t-shirt?! I usually like to get a couple mispellings or what have you, but I guess a missing city will have to do.
As long as the city I was in is on there who cares?
Must haves on a bootleg shirt-
1.City we are in
2. VH logos
3. As many highly pixelated photos as you can fit on both sides of a t-shirt.
4. $15 or better
BOOM! I declare the Philly bootleg shirts a resounding success!!! I feel sorry for those who's souls are so devoid of humanity that they can't enjoy a cheap knockoff t-shirt.
Please people, post more pics of your local bootleg shirts. The only ones I saw in Charlotte where the Black VH logo ones that looked frankly exactly like the ones being sold inside, except for 20 bucks. Which in my opinion is too much, but that's what the guy I was talking to paid.

You won't be dissapointed. I have the shirt from the VHStore and I had the vendoe show me the current tour shirt. No comparison except for the logo of course. The tour shirt is much thinner and the logo isn't as big. The back of the tour shirt just says 2007 world tour, no dates. IMHO the VHstore is a much better shirt.
I thought the official shirts at the show were $35.00???
If I recall, I think it's size dependent ie $35 S-M-L, $40 XL-XXL
Not certain, I thought I paid $40... Maybe it was $35... I do remember for a fact the beers were only $6.00!! A dollar cheaper than RUSH !! <LOL>

They lowered the price because Rush fans drink for quality (a couple high end beers), VH fans drink for quantity (10-12 large beers).
Kind of like when I went to Super Bowl XL. The Seattle fans were shocked when they saw us Steeler fans throwing down beers like they were water. 2 cultures colliding.

Dude, I admire your passion and dedication to spending $40 for a fucking t-shirt that doesn't even look that great at a concert...but I think you are missing the point.
There are some people who ALWAYS need to buy an official t-shirt at a show...they are "collectors,"...to them it's worth 40 bucks, even if it doesn't look that great, or is made cheaply, or features defects (as is apparantly true for this crop of VH shirts).
There are others who think spending that kind of cash on a fucking t shirt is absolutely ridiculous (and people who do are the "fools"), but when they see the bootlegs outside think nothing of spending 10 lousy bucks for what is basically the same thing - a momento of the show, and something to wear when you are jogging so the person in front of you says "hey that guy went to the Van Halen concert!"
For 10 bucks, even the lousiest bootleg t-shirt delivers on those purposes.
They aren't for everyone, but I'm sure you'd understand why it's pretty hard to be dissapointed in a $10 shirt, and it's pretty easy to find flaws in a $40 shirt.
I don't buy either with any regularity, but I'm much more inclined to go with the bootleg. In Philly, I got both! My guest was kind enough to treat me to a since 1978 official T, and I was only too happy to pick up a couple of the counterfiets outside.

I am glad I bought the VHII replica tour shirt from the VH Store a few years back. It is in great shape still too. I also have the VH original album cover logo t-shirt from the VH Store the back has the Frankenstrat and says Atomic Punk. I got that a few years back too. I may get the Runnin' With the Devil since 78' shirt or even a sweatshirt possibly. Nothing wrong with bootleg shirts. Just machine wash all t-shirts cold, (dry for a few minutes or not all) and hang dry the remainder of the time. The tees last alot longer this way! I am t-shirt collector!

For some reason, they have cracked down on the bootleg t-shirt dudes outside the shows at the Boston Garden over the past few years. Other than the artists merch store (sales only), it was the only other place I'd get my shirts. Come on, 35-40 for a friggin shirt! I have better places to spend that money. Hopefully at the Worcester DCU, there will be some guys selling.
I have never had a problem with a bootleg shirt, other than getting a large when asking for an XL. You get what you pay for, and I hammer them down to $10!!! Tip: Just check size before you pay!
I ended up getting the vintage tee at the show. It was a little thinner and more sleek looking then the ones from previous tours. I bought it because I always buy 1 shirt.
They lowered the price because Rush fans drink for quality (a couple high end beers), VH fans drink for quantity (10-12 large beers).

Depending on how old your son is you can get an adult small and it will fit him. I picked up one for my son that went with me, He is 9 and the small fit him fine. I also got one for my 7 year old and it is a little big but I'm sure once through the dryer and it will be fine. Other wise over at VanHalenstore.com they have the 1979 tour shirts in all sizes down to xsmall youth size. I also purchased one of those for my 7 yearold a year ago and it fit him great.

So now I'm covered just in case I hate the quality of the shirts on November 8 :thumb: .
However I will add one important note about the vintage logo t-shirt. I normally where my shirts in XL. I bought this one in XXL just to be safe (even though it cost $2.00 more). And my hunch was right. It fits like my normal XL t-shirt, so buy it one size larger than your normal size.

I don't see the fuss. The tees are supposed to have that worn distressed/vintage look. It is the style they seem to be going for. They look to be fitted tees. That is why they run small. I know this look, and the quality of these types of shirts isn't alot of people's favorites, but it is an in thing still. Apparently people want something old school. Shirts like this are always overpriced for how they are made. Check em' out before if you want one buy one or not I say. You can also get a decent bootleg tee outside for $10 to $20.

On venue property, yes. It's illegal. But, still, you get people who decide the take a chance and sell it on-site anyways.
Off the venue property (across the street, in a liquor store parking lot, etc.), it's hard to say so. There's only so far internal security for any band can go when it comes to stuff like that.
When we saw them in L.A. in '04, there were people selling bootleg shorts as far down as 5,6 blocks, and they weren't experiencing any problems with anyone confiscating their stuff.

About the Van Halen 2007 concert shirts - in my opinion, they are NOT bad quality. But I do understand that many fans might perceive them as bad quality, just because many people are not familiar with, or prefer, the STYLE of shirt they are. You see, all the 2007 shirts are "slim-fit", which means they are smaller and thinner than the "regular fit" shirts that Van Halen has made on the last several tours.
I think the reason why Van Halen decided to go with the slim-fit style for this tour is because, for the last few years, "slim fit" shirts have been very in-style. They are far more common than the larger, thicker shirts that bands made in the '90s, and that VH made on the 2004 tour. (Just go to any mall, where all the teens and 20-somethings shop, and nearly all the t-shirts you will find are the soft, thin, "slim-fit" style, like most younger people prefer).
So when buying the shirts at the shows, just be sure to try them on before you leave the table. You MIGHT want to buy them one size bigger than you usually do.
The 2007 merchandise is currently available only at the concerts.
