Welcome to draft day boys and girls! Stop on by and let us know how your team did this year.
20 years ago, Bruce Smith was the first pick in the draft. He helped change the face of the DE position. He obviously also helped change the Bills future, as they went to 4 straight Super Bowls in '91, '92, '93 and '94.
The Bills are sitting with their first pick at #55 this year after trading around with Dallas to get J.P. Losman in the first round last year.
And with the first pick of the NFL Draft 2005, the SF 49's take...
I'm hoping like hell Mike Williams is still there at #7 when the Vikings pick. I want him bad! There's some talk of Minnesota taking a RB. :wtf: I hope they are not this stupid.

:bounce: :bounce: Ronnie Brown :bounce: :bounce:
Is it just me or does Ronnie Brown seem less than thrilled about the Dolphins taking him. He barely smiled or showed any emotion and he's not wearing the Dolphin's cap. Could he know something, is it possible Miami is going to trade him? Does he just not want to be a Dolphin? Or am I seeing things?

I'm looking for some paint to watch dry.
I don't get too excited for the NFL draft, so many players don't pan out that I don't pay much attention to it. Plus I know that Belichick will pull something that nobody has even considered and that player will become a star.
We need an inside linebacker to groom, we allready got a reciever in David Terrell who will finally live up to his potential in N.E.
Dillon is locked up at RB, and of course we still got Brady.
Look at who we didn't have last year that will be back this season and its like having 4 or 5 extra draft picks.

I'm with Eddymon. (Never thought I'd ever say that) I don't get to caught up on draft day either, cept when I knew we'd get McNabb.
I do think that Ronnie Brown was a good pick cause I really like that guy. I'm off to a draft party for some free food and beer. Hopefully my Birds will get a quality player if they choose not to trade up.

They'll probably trade him, but I like him right where he is!!!
I'm quite happy with Cedric Benson coming to the Bears. We need a dominant RB to help our passing game. Grossman needs to take Cedric out for a steak dinner at Ditka's.

Looks like it's Troy Williamson instead. Oh well, tough break.
I'm completely stunned! :wtf: Did the Vikings even know that Mike Williams was still available? :D

i seriously do not get that pick at all... Mike Williams is the best player in the draft! im a UCLA fan and i know that... as much as i hate USC, Mike WIlliams is one hell of a player.... everytime i hear Mike Williams, i picture the UCLA/USC game a few years back when Williams jumped up in the endzone to catch the ball in one hand while he was busy with the other arm giving Matt Clark a HUGE stiff arm... just sick
heres what im talkin about

They say Williamson ran a 4.3, Edwards a 4.5, and Williams a 4.6. Sportsline actually predicted Williamson ahead of Williams(they have Mark Clayton ahead of Williams also). Not as much of a surprise as some might think.

Im surprised there hasnt been any trading yet.
Huh? I guess Detroit doesn't think Charles Rogers can stay healthy or they have a deal for Williams. They don't need M. Williams, R. Williams, and C. Rogers.
DETROIT!!!!
Oh my....looks like they drafted Mike Williams for leverage....what a weird pick. They have such a piss defense, and they took another WR.
The Lions have to have something up their sleeves with that one. It's weird, I was out cleaning my porch and when they said the Lions were picking I had a feeling they were going to take Mike Williams. I think Williamson is a hell of a player, but I would have preferred to take Williams. Maybe time will prove me wrong.

Williamson was a good pick.
Nope. Should've kept Moss.
If I were Millen, I wouldn't have drafted Williams (or any WR), considering the cap money we've already got wrapped up in C. Rogers & R. Williams, but I'm certainly happy to have him in Detroit.
I hate that we gave up a 4th to move up to draft Shaun Cody (not the psycho, Dan Cody), but again....I'm thrilled with him. It will be fun to watch him next to the best DT in the league, Shaun Rogers. Or maybe as a DE.....we'll see.

That bugs me, badly. Like I said, I never would've drafted a WR again, but I'm thrilled as hell to have Williams.
BUT, we DID draft Shaun Cody, and our defense isn't so much "talentless", it's just YOUNG & retarded. We added a monster of a Safety from Denver...Kennedy. I hope we add another LB to go along with Boss Bailey, who may never be the same.

Of course they should've. But they didn't. The Vikes did well today.
I love the Lions grabbing Williams. I bet that screwed everyone up that was picking right after them. That will be a fantastic offense next year. One bad game from Joey and move Jeff in? No problem. They will be fun to watch next year.

When the WRs are on their game, Joey is more than passable, pardon the pun.
Seriously.
I can't remember a game where the WRs didn't drop at least 4 passes. I could be wrong. I guess when you're throwing to Az Hakim, you're simply *destined* to endure at least 2 drops.
I can think of Joey throwing to TE Michael Rhicks, who simply CAN'T be covered by your average little CB, yet he can't catch a f*cking cold.
I'd gladly sacrifice 1 jaw-dropping play from Hakim every 2 games for his 2 drops every *single* game. We won't see that w/ Mike Williams. I'm also assuming Roy Williams won't drop 3 passes in 1 game again.
I still really, really wish the Lions would've improved their defense more. There could still be some pre-camp signings that shake things up.
Kevin Jones was the league's leading rusher for like the last 6 games or some crazy sh*t like that, so I'm still hopeful overall.

I'm one of the ones defending Joey. Give the kid some freakin' time!!! This fourth year will determine it-that is enough. SD was stupid to draft Rivers last year because they were too impatient with Brees. Who knows what they'd have right now if they hadn't wasted that pick. Maybe M. Clayton or R. Williams. Instead they got a backup QB that they are training to play for Seattle or Chicago or Cleveland in two years - unless for some reason Drew falters.

So where the H*ll is Brett?
The Lions drafted two Trojans. Wassup, bro?
Sure, Claiborne was a complete, total, fat, and miserable failure, but Morton & Peete were bomb for a while. (Peete was actually drafted by the Tigers, as well)
How do you feel about our new crew? :D
You like your sure-handed boy Mike Williams playing alongside Roy Williams & Charles Rogers? No more excuses for Joey Endzone.

Yeah, if he can't do something with those receivers, he might as well apply for a job as an usher at a theater or something. I'm not real comfortable with the Lions taking Williams. They were on their way anyway, and if he can come in and contribute, they could make some noise in the division.

I actually believe Charles Rogers's return will make the biggest impact. He was a big part of Joey getting Player of the Week honors back in week 1 of 2003.
I think Mike Williams will "act" as a pass-receiving TE does, but without the superior blocking. As long as he doesn't drop the ball, I'm OK with him.
One of my college buddies asked me what I thought of the Lions signing Kevin Johnson as a 3rd receiver/backup. My thoughts, very simply:
2004 Az Hakim : 10 drops
2004 Kevin Johnson : 1 drop
It's very simple. The Lions deploy high percentage plays that aren't "high percentage" at ALL if the f*cking dolts don't catch the ball.
I still think Mornhinweg (now w/ Philly) called a better offensive game than Mooch. Ah well...

And the Birds made that trade with the Niners, thus bringing their pick total to 14 in this years draft. So I gotta think that they're going to make a move in some way.
Williamson was a good pick.
The fastest receiver in the draft,he was a great pick!
I'd let Caviar Joe throw the ball to a Herman Moore with an eating disorder on any given day.(LOL)

I'm quite happy with Cedric Benson coming to the Bears. We need a dominant RB to help our passing game. Grossman needs to take Cedric out for a steak dinner at Ditka's.
I'm with ya' Pabsy. Benson is a North-South guy with great tackle-breaking ability--perfect for Turner's offense. Plus, one of the ESPN pundits mentioned that several scouts had called him the biggest red zone RB threat in the draft, which is something we desperately need. I'm sick of Edinger dinking a chip shot every time we're inside the 20.
As for the rest of the Bear draft, I'm happy. Taking Bradley in the second could be a real steal (Kiper was really oooohing and ahhhing over the pick) although I was secretely hoping they would make a deal with the Redskins after #4 and move up to get Williamns. Him and Benson on the same line? Sweeeet.
Everyone's calling the Kyle Orton pick in the 4th a big steal as well. I like it. Looks like Grossman's got a year or two to really show something or this kid's gonna get the ball. Maybe they see Krenzel as the #3 guy. I don't think Hutchinson is the Bear QB of the future.
They also needed a speedster WR and got him in the 5th with Airese Currie. The kid is blazing fast. Would make a great tandem as a deep threat with Moose as the possession guy, but it's a crap shoot this late in the draft. We'll see.
The other two--safeties Chris Harris and Rod Wilson--are solid hard hitting players, but raw. Hopefully Ron Rivera can boost them to NFL level.
One surprise: no OL. Probably pick one up after the June 1 cuts for good measure, and possibly a veteran QB for insurance.
Encouraging. Very encouraging. Now, if our guys can just stay healthy.

I do know the Lions need help on D...BUT there were plenty of games last year when the "D" was doing well and pretty much shutting teams down throughout many of their games. The problem IS....when your team regularly 3 and out you get discouraged and flat out tired! Many times last year the "D" did there job. Some of the numbers don't show it but having watched EVERY game(unfortunately) I was impressed by their "D".
Shit they shut down Vick in Atlanta and won ....The Vikes they shut down for about a half in Minnesota etc. Then they get tired and give up points.
The more I read about Williamson, the better I feel. He played in a run oriented offense in South Carolina, and for his career had 91 catches for 1754 yds and 13 TD's. Last year he had 43 catches for 835 and 7 TD's. He averaged 19.3 yards per catch. From what I've read, he's fast and has good hands. He's no Moss, but who is? He's a good pickup.
Erasmus James, I'm stoked about. I think he can really make some noise, and teamed up with K. Williams, P. Williams and Udeze, we should be able to put some pressure on the QB.

Vikings: Williamson fills the need for speed
THE NEWS
The Vikings had wide receiver Troy Williamson ranked as the second overall player in this year's draft (behind running back Ronnie Brown) even though most media outlets and other teams had Braylon Edwards and Mike Williams rated higher. Williamson, who runs a 4.3 40 quite simply fulfills the need for a speed receiver in the Vikings vertical passing attack—one that was missing because of the Randy Moss trade. "Every time he catches the ball, something is bound to happen," Vikings receivers coach Wes Chandler told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "He has something that you can't teach and that's instinct. The moment the ball touches his hands, he looks for paydirt. I can't teach that. When kids have that, coupled with open-field running ability, that makes that person so special. Troy Williamson is special."
OUR VIEW
Williamson should be given an opportunity to challenge Marcus Robinson for the starting job opposite Nate Burleson and ahead of Travis Taylor. Given Daunte Culpepper's ability to chuck the rock long, if Troy is able to play his way into significant playing time, he could make a very big impact as a rookie.

Well, I figured they'd trade off in the draft. They'll keep Brown for sure, Saban has no choice!!!! I think they did pretty good in the draft, we really needed an RB as you know and Brown will be Ricky Williams like I'm told!!! We needed another 2 or 3 picks to have a solid draft, like a WR and a QB, Chambers can't do it all alone and I'm not a big Feeley fan, I hated Fiedler too!!! I say give Gus the ball and see how he does, hopefully he'll do OK. We have no O-line and still don't, we lost Surtain but gained a decent CB in the draft....I don't see much happening in S. Fla this season but hopefully it'll be better than last season!!!!

I think the Dolphins will do much better this year. To think about the playoffs would be laughable but improvement will be made. If they finish out anywhere from .500 or above it would be considered a GREAT success. Saban is level headed and realistic. He knows he has a tough road ahead. At least the team is finally in good confident hands!
