Default "SGMAD" - Live Toronto, Canada, Aug 26, 1998

An audience shot clip, with surprisingly good sound. Anthony sings his ass off, and the band is obviously having a blast. From the Molson Amphitheater in Toronto, 1988.

I was at this show, front row seats. They sounded terrific all night long, especially Eddie.

Wow, tremendous quality, nice find. Mike pulls that one off so nicely.

Awesome post Chef.

However...

Who is this Anthony you speak of? Van Halen? Funny...the bassist for the band Chickenfoot has the last name Anthony. The bassist for VH is a kid and has the last name.....Van Halen, no?

That's what I heard at least.

Riddle me this...

How on earth did Mikey get a lead vocal spot on the III Tour when he MAYBE recorded three songs on the album, didn't record any backing vox, and may or may not be the guy with the other three on the inner tray inlay?

Christ, he was essentially non-existent in the band at the time courtesy of Ed, how in the hell did he pull off singing lead on SGMAD?

That is an awesome version, sometimes I have heard this where Mike is way out of tune vocally, but this was great.

Ed didn't want him doing a solo, so he gave him that instead. Nice of him. Oops. come to think of it he did do a small solo.

Yeah, but 6 or 7 mins of Ultra Bass was way played out by this time. Good decision by Ed.

Instead of a beer break (bass solo) this was actually one of the best parts of the 98 show.

Bringing back SGMAD in 1998 was just cool. I mean the last time they played it was 1983 at that point.

yea - I wish I would have gone to see them on this tour. I didn't like III so I didn't think it would be worth seeing it live.

On another note, I think that Mike's best bass playing was on the VHII CD. Whenever I go to the gym I crank the VHII and everytime I listen to it you can hear some amazing shit coming from Mikey. IMO Mike's best recording.
