He's quite impressive on Dokken's Erase The Slate, especially the title track.

I saw Reb Beach alongside Doug Aldrich with Whitesnake a couple of years back. Not to put Beach down as he is an excellent guitarist, but Aldrich was the one that blew me away. His playing had so much more fire and presence. Maybe he was just a better fit for the bluesier sound Whitesnake have had over the last few years.

My bet would be on Schon or Ted Nugent. And, if he didn't go with one of those guys or any of the others mentioned here, it wouldn't surprise me if he pulled some cat out of the woodwork that no one's heard of before. There are Ed-clones all over the place. There's quite a few on YouTube that could pull a gig like this off I think. But, Sam's got no shortage of contacts that could point him to some diamond in the rough IMHO.

I never heard of someone leaving a big band with so many options available to him. More power to him.

Yeah, right. When pigs shit monkeys.
My vote is Cantrell, Slash, or Schon. Someone who has performed with Sam and someone who knows him well.

Reb would get my vote. I'd want to see Steve Vai or Nuno the most, but I doubt either of them would play with Sammy, especially since they played with the other VH singers.

I could see Satch with Sam..that would be interesting.

I would love to see a new band with Satch, Sam, Mike, and a great drummer. Satch imo writes tunes that are much more "rock band" oriented/flavored than Vai imo. Satch has great huge tone live, he's someone that sounds even better live than on record.
No way it's going to be Vai the superstar guitarist. Dave hires him as a new genius to record and tour with.. post Ed. It would be very odd if now Sam did the same. What would that make Vai? The anti Ed? hehe I doubt he'd do it since he played with Dave and did the VH cover thing 20 years ago.
I think the superstar surprise guitarist may be Neal Schon, that seems to make A LOT of sense to me. Sam's new tour is shaping up to be very interesting. Good for him it should be successful. It also means Mike will make some nice money this tour also which is cool, not that he need it but who doesn't lol.

I just hope this "superstar guitarist" does not turn out to be someone like, for instance Dave Navarro, someone more "infamous" than famous. Look, the fellow may have some chops, I'm just unfamiliar with hearing any.
The entire concept does tickle the mind with possibility. The whole conceit of "who is it" is somewhat thrilling. I simply hope it is someone that reflects an inspired choice.
I like the "outside the box" thinking. In a wishful vein, I'd go with someone like Hiram Bullock or perhaps Vernon Reid, truly astounding players with a jazz/fusion background. (Yeah, I know...)
I truly hope that the choice reflects some good judgement.
Then again, it would be sorta cool to see John Fogerty up there, picking out some cool VH runs.
