I was thinking Nuno as well...it's sad how obscure he's become...on top of the Extreme thing, doesn't he have that Satellite Party gig still going (or is that over already)
Boy, this sure is depressing to a dude who cut his teeth on guitar rock...look at the names mentioned and there isn't a single one relevant to today's music...George Lynch, Steve Vai, Neil Schon, Paul Gilbert...What happened? <cue the intro to "Teen Spirit">
Brian May makes me smile...I think there's no chance it would happen, but that guy's just the greatest. Can you see him and Sammy knocking back tequila shots..."You know, old chap, this is a formidable spirit!"

I wouldn't guess it to be Slash, he seems very busy with Velvet Revolver.

It will have to be a superstar that won't mind coming on and only playing 6 or 7 Van Hagar tunes. Probably not a gig someone like Shon would want to do. It will be someone that needs the work.

I love Lynch's style - while most think of him as just a shredder most of his tunes have a real underlying groove to them and I think he is someone that definately brings something to the table and doesn't really appear to be hooked up with any regular band anymore. He certainly has a reputation of being hard to work with but they may or may not really be true - and besides, who couldn't have a good time in the atmosphere Sammy creates these days?

I am with most of the folks here...Lynch would smoke. What about Gary Hoey or Ritchie Kotzen?

On further thought, Greg Howe would do the Van Hagar tunes ultimate justice...I am changing my vote!

Vai, eh? Not sure he's particularly interested in playing VH tunes unless Hagar's going to throw a very large boatload of cash at him.

Sammy's in competition with VH, just like when VH and Dave put out records after one another, when they split up. I'd vote for Lynch, he showed me some licks at a guitar show years ago, cool dude, and he can play.

Is that a knock at DiMartini? Ratt's music may be dated hair-metal, but that cat could and still can play. You can't possibly put him in the same sentence with Cavazo...
