Good point...the only thing sweeter is if he brought out Travis Tritt for a duet of "Cheatin Heart Cafe" from the "rocking and classic" album Dave put out called Your Filthy Little Mouth. Now that, my friends, would rock...!

I believe Toby Keith has been known to hang around Sammy, but definitely is not a superstar guitarist. The only superstar modern country guitarist I can think of right now is Keith Urban.

I thought of Vai, but hope it's not him (he already showed with Dave that he's no EVH). Technically amazing, but no soul.
Satriani is another possiblity, you know, for a tour.
I really like the George Lynch idea.
Slash seems far-fetched given the on-going nature of Velvet Revolver (and he's also shown himself to be no EVH).
If Sam manages to pull this off, it will be a helluva show.

it won't be vai, i can't see vai and sammy on the same stage together. Vai is to theatrical and technical, to match with Sammy's party bluesy bar band atmosphere.
I could see Satch with Sam..that would be interesting.

There should be a vote. Everyone seems to agree that Lynch is the best choice.

I believe one could cross Neil Schon off of the list. The man has mentioned several times recently that at this stage of his career, he's looking at the steady paying gig, and would expect to be paid well for his services. Not a knock at Sam Hagar at all here, yet Hagar isn't really about the money at this time.
This would seem to open the door for Ted Nugent, yet I'm not convinced that would work out over a long set without Ted either hogging the limelight or wanting to play his own material.
One name that has not been brought up is Vinnie Moore. He certainly has the skills, and his years with UFO point to a knowing experience regarding classic rock.
Just a thought.

I'm betting Sam and Mike are gonna end up working with Schon in the near future, something like Planet Us part II or something like that...I don't know I've just got a sneakin suspicion.
Mike was supposed to work with Lynch on something in the past....
Satriani was in Planet Us near the end and he jammed with them on Rockline..pretty cool jam for guitar geeks with him and Schon just going off for minutes on end.
Sammy Played...er sang...er hummed on a song by the often immateted never duplicated Jeff Watson of Night Ranger fame...that guy is actually pretty damn good and he's not doing a thing right now.
Vai...I don't see it especially after the Roth stuff...
Paul Gilbert? Maybe, I don't know though...doesn't seem right to me.
Sammy was talking about Stevie Salas and Vernon Ried back when he oringinally talked about forming a band after VH so maybe Vernon is up for it....
I'd probably go with Lynch or Gilbert if it was me.

Just to not repeat everyone here, Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme also fits the bill for Eddie-like style and performance/ability, but don't know that his name fits the billing of "guitar superstar." Then again, there's been a rumored Extreme reunion CD/tour supposedly in the works for next year...

I love Lynch's style - while most think of him as just a shredder most of his tunes have a real underlying groove to them and I think he is someone that definately brings something to the table and doesn't really appear to be hooked up with any regular band anymore. He certainly has a reputation of being hard to work with but they may or may not really be true - and besides, who couldn't have a good time in the atmosphere Sammy creates these days?

Lynch, Sam and Mike....I'd like to see that!! George still smokes!
Lynch isn't the kinda guy who would want to sit and play VH songs though, he likes to do his own material. Although I know he did that "Panama" cover for that tribute album. Who knows.

Lynch would be cool. He can play. The guy has the coolest looking guitar out imo, The Super V!
Second thought, I know it's a long shot.
