Sammy hiring "superstar guitarist" for 2008 tour~
Hagar will support the album with a summer festival tour, for which he plans an "anthology" tour that will feature the original Montrose lineup, his original Sammy Hagar Band, his current group, the Wabos, and a "superstar guitarist" that will join him and Anthony to play Van Halen material.
"I have some people in mind," Hagar reports, "but I haven't made the call yet." Hagar adds there will also be "a big, all-star jam at the end" of the show.

Awww man I thought you knew who it is! Oh well.
Sammy's anthology idea sounds like it's got some potential.

I'm not busting but why say a superstar is joining you and not say who it is? Is the hype better than the player? Is the deal not worked out yet between them? Is this just a way to build hype for the tour? Just curious. I wonder who it is. If he hasn't made the call yet how does he know he's free and into it? He's on standby?

Probably Slash or Jerry Cantrell. Than again it could be someone who hasn't been heard from in quite some time.

If it is Slash then he better learn how to play runaround correctly. Steve Vai would be a good choice.

I think it should be George Lynch - I believe that Lynch covered Space Station #5 on a recent release and I think he jammed with Sammy during that time as well. He would not be "over-shadowed" by Eddie's image and the dude can flat ass burn on the guitar. I love Lynch's style - while most think of him as just a shredder most of his tunes have a real underlying groove to them and I think he is someone that definately brings something to the table and doesn't really appear to be hooked up with any regular band anymore. He certainly has a reputation of being hard to work with but they may or may not really be true - and besides, who couldn't have a good time in the atmosphere Sammy creates these days?

The "superstar guitarist" thing is overshadowing the coolness of an all-out Sammy anthology tour. Montrose? The original SH band? Pretty sweet!

Neil Schon maybe? Fits the "anthology" thing with what they did in HSAS and Planet US.

Great call, I think George would add an agresive tone to the harder songs and he also breaks out some blues style everyone once and a while...

I'm willing to bet it'll be Stevie Salas.
He's played with Sam several times down in Cabo, and, from what I was told back in '02, he's the guitarist Sam originally wanted for his band after leaving Van Halen, but, for whatever reasons, went with Vic Johnson instead.

Lynch did cover it, he's a helluva guitarist and he gets my vote! He also covered Panama.

Neal Schon would make alot of sense. Bringing on Steve Vai would be pretty ironic since Vai and DLR collaborated in the past.
