Saturday night I had the 5 star all access pass for the show. We missed the preparty, but got our tickets and gifts thanks to Kaitlin (Sp) she was great came to our seats and gave us everything. I bought the 5 star as soon as they went on sale. I was front row Eddie's side right in front of him. I had my date with me who is a fashion model, so, Dave kept coming over to us and looking right at her while he serenaded her... she was on the Van Halen screen during "Dance the Night away"...

Anyway, I love Eddie. The guy gets a bad wrap but I love him. I brought to the show with me my three picks from the 2004 tour where Eddie slapped the picks into my hand during his guitar solo. I did I love all access there too for Anaheim, Los Angeles and Vegas. So I had a frankenstrat pick in red, white and gold. Being the idiot I am and clown, as soon as they hit the stage, I put the picks on my forehead and looked at Eddie while pointing. Eddie caught a glimpse of me when the lights came up and laughed. He then pointed me to Dave who looked more interested in the girl I was with than me, but he smiled too. The best look I got was Wolfie. He came over and smiled and tried to throw me a pick, but it went off into the crowd. More on that later.

This is why I love 5 star. The band knows that people doing 4 and 5 star are diehards like the rest of the crowd who couldn't afford to do them. So, the night began with Eddie interaction. We both got thumbs up, smiles and laughs. Eddie tried to throw me pick number one (he is using a gold herco medium gripper pick with no personalization) but the gentleman next to me stuck his hand out and claimed it. Now, here is why I love EVH. Seeing that the pick didn't go to it's intended target, he waited until "Jamie's Cryin" was over and right before the lights got killed, he walked in front of me and gently tossed the treasure my way. It hit me and fell into the security walk. The guard picked it up and handed it to me. Claiming my prize, I stuck it to my forehead to the smile of Eddie. He looked right at me, gave me a thumbs up.

When the opening notes for "I'm the One" hit, the sensitive and true moment was watching Dave look at the crowd during the "Bop suap" part, he had large tears in his eyes. The place was packed and going nuts. He went over to Eddie, mouthed "I love you" and Eddie teared up. Here are two men, seven feet away from us with tears in their eyes and appreciative of the crowd and the volume. Eddie had to wipe his tears and Dave just took it in. I was taken by that and it wasn't an act, you could feel the empathy as both of these rockers looked and saw that regardless of what bad history the band had, the people were in support of them to the roof. A very touching moment.

ALex.... steady and another great performance. He doesn't look past his kit and messes with his nephew a lot, but man, Alex just chugs away. Eddie is so in tune with his kit, if he gets lost, he looks to Alex and bang he is on again...

Wolfie... First show nerves, this show, he laughed, ran around, jammed and interacted with his dad. Now, we saw a photog that EVH must of hired because he would take pics with Eddie and Wolf together. Great poses too..Eddie mocks it up for the camera as I witnessed. He was loose and genuinely having a great time. Wolfie was great too. The lady next to me threw him a halmark card (I am dead serious) Wolf picked it up during "Jump" and put it in his pocket. Now, I had Eddie's gold herco pick on my head, so I smiled at Wolf and made a "W" with my two hands. He immediately cracked a huge smile and then Eddie gave me another thumbs up...He just wants the chance to be accepted for what he is doing. Again, I love Michael Anthony and I miss him dearly and it isn't the same, but DLR brought his "A" game to Greensboro.

Dave was on... Great vocals, hair raising on "Little Dreamer", there are pre recorded backing vocals on some songs, but who cares... there is so much to watch and do that it isn't a negative at all. Dave's "Ice Cream Man" was the show stopper. It's so good to see him fronting the band and singing out. He also stopped the waving he did so much in Charlotte and spent more time doing a few spin kicks and poses. He looks fantastic and sounds fantastic. Sure he screws up the words, but hey, He's DLR...and damn can he hit those notes!

Best part of the night. "Jump" was being performed and Eddie's guitar was feeding back and he couldn't get it to stop... so he turned the volume down and was trying to ear tune with harmonics in front of his EVH stack, problem was the harmonics were glitching the sound and song. He turns to us in the front row, walks over the catwalk and says with a big grin "I don't know what the fuck I am doing", makes a goofy face and turns away. He then turns around and looks at us again and does that face he does with the look of "what the hell is going on here". It was hilarious. As he goes to turn away again, he comes over and tosses Dawn a pick. Now I have one and she has one and EVH grins at Dawn... she was in heaven!

So at the beginning of the night Eddie had "six" picks on his microphone. He threw four into the crowd. Dawn and I got two, the gentleman who stole the first one got another and another gentlemen in the crowd got the other. I also got a Wolfie pick which is like his dad's frankenstrater with 316 and Wolfie's sig on the back.

After bowing to the crowd, Eddie decided to exit stage left with Wolfie. As he did, he motioned to the crowd pointing to his son and everyone went crazy on stage left.

I left feeling the 5 star was worth the money, interaction and great time I had in Greensboro. Again, I miss Mikey and will always miss him, but Van Halen kicked ass. Now there were some miss timing and cues, but that's rock n' roll...

Don't miss this tour....

Dude..Puff..Puff..Pass, because whatever it is you're smoking...EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!!! And as far as the statement you made of "The band knows that people doing 4 and 5 star are diehards like the rest of the crowd who couldn't afford to do them" The only thing that I can think of to say is; "FUCK YOU!" Since I'm not as "diehard" as you and I was in section 115 with the 'po folk' (that's Poor People, for the wealthy people who are reading this) but from my point of view of the whole fucking stage, and the big screen, and YouTube, I never noticed Eddie, Dave or Wolfgang hanging out, talking or saw Eddie go to one guy in the front row to give him a pick thru-out the whole night, and not even notice that the other 18,000 plus fans were even there. But I guess that's because the other wealthier fans might have been blocking my view of this. I'm amazed that the band even had time to perform with you there!!

Listen I can do this all day long, but the point of this is number one I think the first 3 paragraphs of your “I‘m God‘s gift to Van Halen“ post is total BULL SHIT! (Including your fashion model date)……if you honestly think that you are more of a “diehard” fan than others with your big 5 POSTS…then you are sorely mistaken! Just because you’re “willing” to pay for 5 star tickets doesn’t make you the “Apple of Van Halen’s Fucking Eyes” personally…like many others out there….I was more worried about all of my friends and family going to see the legend that I have talked about for so long…..so if paying for 9 seats out of my own pocket doesn’t make me as cool as you for buying two 5 star seats…. Then I’m ok with that!! If you’re such a diehard Van Halen fan with money to blow, then why don’t you donate to the one place where all true diehard fans (the wealthy and poor) can go to find out the latest info and talk about the greatest band EVER? I'll even help you out, here's the link

And to the MODS....and everyone who is looking to read reviews about the show, sorry to make this into a thread you would find at the Army, but this guy is a fucking douche bag. I won't pollute this thread or give this jackass any other reason to post more bull shit until the next tour. So, let's keep this a review thread, and if there is anything else you would like to say, I believe you can reply back to my P.M.

Default Grand Slam Home Run !

Brett thanks for setting me up to post again.

I live in California and admit I both couldn't wait and knew this early show was a must see. I would have been pissed I'd missed this the rest of my life if chemistry melted down before the tour reaches the West Coast. I'm happy to report I really can't see this breaking down. The future looks quite bright!

Red eye from LAX, (Wifey and I were not the only VH fans on that plane!), arrived in the morning, hopped into the rental .. too early to check-inl, went straight to the venue. Met some diehard Florida fans ...Shout out Atom & Paul!... who like us were already there before noon! Thanks for the bootlegs! We all grabbed some breakfast, checked in and got in a nap and then headed back in for the show of our lives folks!

Greenboro was a terrific host and venue. I can see why they started in NC. The local 103.1 radio station format is awesome, both before and after their marathon Van Halen coverage. Did'nt make the pre party at hooters, the tailgate party had to be much better anyhow.

Floor middle 25th row for the 2nd concert first weekend show! Sound was great, I'd hoped beforehand of filtering out first night bugs ... zero disappointment there. Wished Dave & Eddie used the front ramp more! Wolfie you owned the back ramp but it's okay... come to us... "how bout you?" ... we'll love you for it.

Misty beginnings, probably less than 1st show, (from what I've read), but significant and the similar aged audience participated right along with them. Dave & Ed are either smiling or crying and the audience just kept bouncing the emotions right back at them.

Alex WAS solid and better than ever, (great solo but it's okay to lose the piped in music), Eddie & Dave returned to their past excellence and renewed all faith.

Wolfy is settling right in. Wifey didn't like something he mumbled like a kid...see he flubbed his line "Dave (something..pause), give that person you're talking to a break" but it's cool! He's got more nerve than I had at his age.

The cradle IS rocking this band that wouldnt otherwise be here, Wolfy gets the credit and I give him full acceptance. He'll prove himself with this tour and next tour I'll hope they'll bring Mikey back in, Wolfy is capable of starting a 3rd guitar job for this new band. In the meantime, he's making "this new generation sing". Bringing our guitar-playing almost 16 year-old 5 star at San Diego to see him !

Hello fellow Van Halen Peeps!!!! I am MSR316’s wife Sissy. And now that my husband has got his morning “tiff” out of the way……I would like to say something…..when I met my husband 5 years ago I have to admit I was not a huge Van Halen fan. No reason really. I just didn’t listen to a lot of their music. Within the past 5 years, I have been taught more about Eddie, Alex, Wolfgang, Dave, Sammy, Michael (and Gary) than I ever thought I could!!! We have been to many concerts including seeing Van Halen (with Sammy) in Greensboro in 2004. So, when we found out about Van Halen touring with Dave this year, you better believe that Sean sent many text messages, emails, and made a lot of calls to spread the news about the “Rock God’s smiling on us once again.” We had 15 people in our little group and 9 of those people we bought tickets for because Sean was determined that anyone who wanted to go, but couldn’t get tickets (for whatever reason ) had NO excuse not to! My 16year old nephew was one of them.
This was my first time seeing Van Halen with Dave and the first time in over 20 years that anyone else had either. When the first sound of Eddie playing guitar was heard……that place went NUTS!!! And when the lights came on…well, it was Awesome!!! Like I said before, we have been to a lot of concerts. Some big one’s and some small one’s…..and by far, this concert was absolutely unbelievable!! I was in Awe at the crowd….every person…..and I mean EVERY PERSON… was up. The electricity in that place was amazing. I have never seen anything like it in my life. I was so excited that my nephew was able to see this! When I told my mom about the concert, she actually compared it to when she saw the Beetles in Dallas at the age of 15. I think I watched the crowd more than anything; I loved seeing these 40, 50 and 60 year old men play air guitar and drums and giving “high fives” to people who were three or four rows in front of them. I’m very proud to say that I am a Van Halen fan. Not a Sammy fan or a Dave fan but a Van Halen fan. And I might not know every song, or every solo….but I do know that being at that concert and seeing the people who waited soooooooo long to see this is something that I will never forget and something that I will truly cherish. I think that it is absolutely fantastic that all of you who are on this message board share one thing….the love and passion for a band and the members who are either in it or have been in it.
If I had only one wish it would be that everyone would be able to experience something so big and so overwhelming that it takes your breath away at least one time in your life. And for me, that was seeing Van Halen Saturday night in Greensboro.

Great show and musically it was more than expected. If I had to say anything critical is this is now a Van Halen show for the family.

The nature of concerts and venues have changed and the fan base as aged so this isn't really an issue that VH can control. I expect a VH show to be full of rowdy drunks and the smell of cigarettes and pot to be wifting through the air. Nowadays a VH show is very coorperate and you are more likely to see dad buying the kids soft pretzels and a coke than lighting up one and passing it down the aisle.

Anyway, VH can't control those kind of things and what they did control it was a great show.

Listening to the Un-Radio thing, I thought those musical notes during
his solo Al was triggering from pads - ? Whatever it is, some of it did
sound cheesy, but I thought the Out of Love riff he worked in, well, worked...

Default VAN HALEN @ Greensboro, NC

(Saturday, September 29, 2007 - Greensboro, NC) From the time I woke up (8:30) Saturday morning, I was on Van Halen mode. The day was beautiful and there was approximately 310 miles to drive. I left Frederick, Md. at 10:00, bags packed, and I must had checked to see if I had the tickets to the show at least three times.

Van Halen was to play at the Greensboro Coliseum this night, the second show of their 2007 tour. With great honor, Charlotte, NC was the opening city for the tour, and the reviews from a local news station and fans were nothing but good, describing a concert they had witnessed the night before … “The Mighty Van Halen”. The reviews were 99% saying the band is back and rocking like there’s no tomorrow.

I have to admit, but I’ve been checking out VH links on the internet before the band had their press conference announcing the 2007 tour. I had been keeping my ear to the ground and reading as many reviews of the rehearsals that I could, not to mention all the short video feeds of a few songs that came from the rehearsals that were on the concerts song list … and those clips … nothing but a tease … I thought the band sounded great during the rehearsal clips.

So, as you can see, I’ve been waiting for this day a long time … Hell, we’ve all be waiting for this day … 22 years to be exact. I’ll tell you this, since the first time I placed the needle to the vinyl of Van Halen I, back in the late summer of 1978, I’ve been hooked. At the age of 14, I started the self-induced mind programming of Van Halen … I became genetically wired to VH … I couldn’t play it loud enough and I wanted more. And more we got … Five more albums and tours of the most energetic, free-spirited, American-Grown, Rock-and-Roll band that just simply created an atmosphere of uninhibited fun, with a sound that changed the face of rock. I don’t think the boys really understood then, the impact that they would have … well, maybe they did understand … I know I did … those concerts at the Capital Center in Landover, Md. were awesome and for me that was enough proof of their success and stardom … they were the “Mighty Van Halen”.

And then it ended … an era with Diamond David Lee Roth as the bands front man. For me, it would never be the same.

So with much awaited anticipation and almost having this sense of disbelief, I was going to see Van Halen at the Greensboro Coliseum with Diamond Dave, Eddie, Alex and the next generation of Van Halen’s, Wolfgang.

Hours before the concert, fans were all congregating at the hotel bar where I was staying (Marriott) and swapping VH stories, inquiring where each of us were from, reminiscing about the DLR days and Van Halen in general … we were all having a great time and just waiting to get over to the show. As soon as I parked my truck at the Coliseum parking lot (VH playing loud-Fair Warning), there was a party atmosphere in the air. The parking lot was full of tailgaters listening to VH and catching a buzz … just like the good old days … this was great and we weren’t even in the door yet. Once you were in, you could here people shouting out and screaming Van Halen and just gearing up for the concert … the beer line was even fun, talking with others and just people watching. Folks were pumped. There was this good sized VH remote control blimp buzzing around the inside of the coliseum which was fun to watch while the VH stage crew was setting up and making last second tuning … and then the lights dropped. I’m sitting on Eddies side about 60 feet away (great seats), and Eddie comes out on to the dark stage … the lights come up on Eddie and the crowd just went nuts … it was AWESOME … followed by Dave, Alex and Wolfgang. This was such a great moment … surreal … The entire coliseum was on its feet … looked like a sold out crowd to me by the time the show started. Van Halen opened with, “You Really Got Me”, and from there, it was on … I don’t care what anyone says, the band sounded tight. David Lee sounded great, Eddie has never sounded better, he is truly amazing, Alex was the steady anchor that he is, and Wolfgang … Hell Yeah, Wolfgang did the job … I miss Michael Anthony, but if you’re going to replace Michael, at least it was with flesh and blood. Wolfgang did a GREAT job all the way around. This was a timeless evening and to see David Lee and Eddie give one another hugs was great, and if they do that at each show, then that’s there way of showing us fans that everything is going to be Ok … and then they just got down to business and rocked the house.

The stage was very cool … nothing to over the top. You can see the difference between the youthful Van Halen and the today’s Van Halen … the band has changed, and it’s good. We’ve all gotten older … lol! I know that some fans reported poor sound … all I can say is that it sounded great to me … every note, every lyric … sounded real good. But damn, you sure do get the sense that DLR and VH sure do belong together and always have meant to be together. The night was magical, euphoric, and historic … it was just good old-school, kick-ass, Rock-and-Roll. You’ll either feel it or you don’t.

Folks, if you have the chance to see this show in a town near you, you really should make the effort to do it … it’s worth every penny. You will not be disappointed in the least bit. This is Rock-and-Roll history. This is Van Halen. The next two shows are in Philadelphia. Hey Philadelphia, Let the Cradle Rock, because you’re in for a very long night tonight … have fun!

To: Van Halen/DLR, Thanks for the awesome show in Greensboro … can’t wait to see you again in D.C. (11/1) … I sure hope that a new CD is being planned very soon … it’s been a long 22 years without you all together and doing what you’re supposed to be doing here on earth, and that is giving Rock-and-Roll a fucking pulse again.

V/R,

VH/DLR Fan-For-Life … Jimmy

Default My corrected review

I was at Charlotte and posted a review there...

I had my date with me who is a model, so she attracts quite a bit of attention. During the show, Dave would periodically come over to us and looking right at her while he serenaded her... she was on the Van Halen screen during "Dance the Night away"...he also made eye contact with her when he said "is it too late for a booty call?"

Anyway, I love Eddie. The guy gets a bad wrap but I love him. I brought to the show with me my three picks from the 2004 tour where Eddie slapped the picks into my hand during his guitar solo I had gotten two in Vegas from him and one in Anaheim. Being a 5 star all access veteran, I have had the opportunity to view Van Halen from the front row several times. Anaheim, Los Angeles and Vegas in 2004 and everytime, the soundcheck, the banter and the laughter was hilarious, sad there were tensions, but the soundchecks were a ton of fun. He came over to center stage and smiled and tried to throw me a pick, but it went off into the crowd. More on that later.

This is why I love 5 star. The band knows that people doing 4 and 5 star are diehards like the rest of the crowd NOW PLEASE LISTEN. EVERY PERSON IN THE BUILDING IS A DIEHARD, WE JUST A MAKE A CHOICE ON WHAT AND HOW WE WANT TO GET OUR TICKETS. Dawn and I met a ton of cool people and chatted with VAN HALEN diehards all night from all over. Everyone is and was cool...

So, the night began with Eddie interaction. We ALONG WITH OTHERS IN THE PIT AREA, got thumbs up, smiles and laughs. I had worn the picks on my forehead for about an hour and a half now and it was worth it. Dawn thought I was crazy, but she laughed when she saw that it did get me one of the prized possessions from EVH.

The pick hit me and fell into the security walk.

The lady next to me threw him a hallmark card (I am dead serious) Wolf picked it up during "Jump" and put it in his pocket.

Sure he screws up the words, but hey, He's DLR...and damn can he hit those notes. He kept coming to the where we were periodically and making eye contact with Dawn and singing, then making eye contact with the threesome of gorgeous women behind us in the second row.

Best part of the night. "Jump" was being performed and Eddie's guitar was feeding back and he couldn't get it to stop... so he turned the volume down and was trying to ear tune with harmonics in front of his EVH stack, problem was the harmonics were glitching the sound and song. He turns to all of us in the front row, walks over the catwalk and says with a big grin "I don't know what the fuck I am doing", makes a goofy face and turns away.

Dawn and I got two, the gentleman who stole the first one got one and another gentlemen in the crowd got the other.

That was a cool moment

I left feeling the 5 star was worth the money, interaction and great time I had in Greensboro. Again, I miss Mikey and will always miss him, but Van Halen kicked ass. Now there were some missed timing and cues, but that's rock n' roll...and you know what, I would never ever criticize the band I love for getting up there and KICKING ASS!

Don't miss this tour....

Dude, your original post was wonderful. Many thanks. That other dude seemed a bit grumpy today. Seems you had a better time than he did. Good on you!

Thumbs up Like a Thunderbolt in your Cheerios!!!

First off, a BIG Thank You to Van Halen for playing in Greensboro again!!
and a Big Thank you to Coliseum for being a great Host to the Band!

well, Cats and Kitties. The Boys are back!! in FULL Throttle!!
I've seen the Band w/Dave at least 5 times in Greensboro!
this was the show of shows!! they came to ROCK and did!

I'll start with Wolfgang. 4 words. THAT KID CAN PLAY!
he was all over the place. he is definitely the future of Van Halen.
It did seem a bit strange Mike wasn;t there. but Wolf held his ground.

Alex- the Man is the best Rock Drummer today. bar none. I usually
take a break during his solos. I watched him Sat. in awe. he mixed
it up a little. which sounded great! he was on fire!

Ed- he's back! he played the hell out of it! he was almost non stop!
solo was good. great to hear intro to Women in Love. he noodled a
a bit. then went in into Cathedral, and then into Eruption. he looked
like he was really getting into it. unlike 04. our Greensboro News
reviewer compared him to Hendrix. Ed, you are the King!
one side note. I would lose the cord and go wireless. walk into
the circle. the crowds will LOVE it!!

and lastly, David Lee Roth. the Man has mastered his showmanship.
on top of his game. his voice sounded good. even where I was standing.
in the upper level. he put on IMO his most "professional" performace
of his career. and threw a little fun in it also with the Giant Mic.

Highlights- I think they should leave "I'll Wait" in.
Great song. the giant glitter ball during the song sprinkled
the entire arena. very Vegas. very cool.
Little Guitars my personal favorite. Dance the night away.
Beautiful Girls, etc, etc. the played one after the other.
it was an almost non-stop blur of pure Big Rock!
another note. I would add Secrets and remove Little Dreamer.
good song. but, Secrets is another favorite.

well. I'll wrap it up in closing to say to the younger ones and
Die-Hards, if this show hits your town, GO SEE VAN HALEN!!!
you will not regret it.
