For what its worth :

Guitar player Eddie Van Halen, August 2007 (Michael Buckner, Getty Images) Rockers Van Halen canceled a string of comeback gigs so guitarist Eddie Van Halen could return to rehab to be treated for alcoholism, according to reports.
The band rescheduled two concerts in Virginia and Georgia at the end of last month and another this week, prompting internet reports claiming all tour dates had been pulled indefinitely.
Representatives for the rockers insist the tour is still on, despite announcing Van Halen "is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures."
Now sources tell the National Enquirer the 53-year-old guitarist checked himself into a clinic near San Antonio, Texas, so he could detox for a week after a furious backstage bust-up in Florida with his 17-year-old son and bandmate Wolfgang.
An insider says, "It was the big what-if of the tour - whether Eddie could stay sober."
"Wolf hates it when his dad drinks. He knew Eddie was drunk onstage that night, and was acting cold to him, which set Eddie off. Eddie went beserk and started yanking guitar cables from the pedal boards and throwing cigarettes around onstage."
"At the end of the concert, Eddie was so mad at Wolf, he punched the amp speaker, knocking it over."
Van Halen enjoyed a stint in rehab last year, which delayed plans for the comeback tour.

Well, there you have it. National Enquirer is usually good at digging up dirt on celebrities. I believe it's legit.

I've said it before, but you really have to give Wolf credit. It seems like his motivation for doing this tour was to try to save his father. He was responsible for having the tour postponed last year when Ed went to rehab, and now he basically shut it down in mid-tour. He was probably hoping that being so close to Ed would keep him from drinking- maybe that playing in the same band as your son would be enough reason to stay clean. Oh well.
Hang in there, Wolfie.

Noticed that too. Do you think if we stand in front of a mirror and say his name 3 times, he'll post something?
On topic - I wonder if band PR doesn't want to announce this latest "enjoyable rehab stint" lest they be held responsible for pushing Eddie back out on the road too soon in the name of the almighty dollar??

This all makes perfect sense. I'm sure the doctors told Eddie that he had to spend 30 days minimum in rehab at first (their standard policy) - which is why Van Halen management initially cancelled the tour. Then when the promoters heard about it, they were like "no fucking way" and told Eddie to finish out the tour and then go into rehab for 30 days. I can see where they are coming from. Why should they lose millions at his expense? They probably told him to dry out for a week, reschedule three shows, and then finish out the last month of gigs. Then he can go to rehab for six months if he wants to.

Its most likely because there are probably contracts signed that Eddie doesnt drink...and they would have to pay out Huge fines if he was....

I don't recall management canceling anything. Sure there were a lot of rumors about that, but nothing concrete. Besides that I don't think that any promoter can tell Eddie what to do when it comes to his health. If he and his management thought that he could not continue than the tour would be canceled. I just hope coming back after 18 days off doesn't end up killing the guy.

Oh! Don't say things like that! Let's all just hope and pray Ed comes back after the break refreshed and happy, with a new sense of self.

I am sure Ed is fine right now that he is sober. That's why Val is saying she is proud of him. He probably apologized to the Wolf and things are cool...it's just when he gets sauced that shit hits the fan.
Kids are very intuitive and a 16 year old isn't going to take a lot of crap without pushing back. Good for you, Wolfie!
