When was Ed the happiest? What do you think? All in all the impression I get is with Sammy. I think they had a great time together and they all got along, until the breakup that is. I want to see that feeling return to VH, thats what makes them what they are.

"When you die on your death bed, you will receive total and complete consciousness. So I got that goin for me, which is nice"

Well, I remember hearing or seeing somewhere that the only time with Sammy that it wasn't tense between them was during 5150. He said things started to boil ever since then, even for OU812. it all just came to a peak after Balance. I don't know,he was probably happiest(no offense)with Dave when he was drinking heavily.
The "Van Hagar" thing really got to him though.

I would like to think with Sammy, but seriously, who can know for sure? We know there was about three albums with DLR (Fair Warning - 1984) that things were kind of tense... but then again, that doesn't mean the stuff with Sammy wasn't tense too.

I think if anything Ed Leffler was just a master of knowing the right things to say/do to keep things from blowing up on either side. Once he dropped out of the picture, well, things went sour.

I'd say he's been happy on and off his whole life, but the happiest when he has a guitar in his hand, after all, this has been the way he can express all his feelings.

Probably when he was 10 or 11 years old and he picked up a guitar for the very first time.

YankeeRose 04.02.01 11:18 AM

I also think he was happiest with Sammy!!

Especially during the 5150 tour, i'm sure Eddie was happy when most fans accepted Sammy as a replacement for Dave.

On Live Without A Net Eddie looks as happy as a person can be!

I'm going to move this topic to Opinions because that's all it is really.

Here are a few ideas:

-When they got their record contract
-When he got married
-Recording with Sammy for the first time
-When Wolfie was born
-Playing live

Great points Dan I agree with all of what you said!

I always thought he was with Gary. "He's my musical soulmate." Remember that? But as far as life, probably Val and Wolfie make him happiest.

DEFINITELY during the 5150 recording/touring days. I think he was very troubled during the early Dave years, personally, from being insecure, strung out, and what not. We all know he was depressed and dark during the Fair Warning days. He really disliked Diver Down, and conflicts with Dave were apparent. And we damn well know the problems during 1984 (despite their success).

In the Sammy years, he stated problems started as early as OU812, continuing to Balance, and we know where that ended up.

Personally, 5150 seems to be the era where Ed was most 'content' with where he and his band were going. He was excited by working with Sammy. He had more control of his band than with Dave, and he knew they were going in a very good direction both musically and commercially. Although an argument can be said for the III era, I don't see it. I think he liked being 100% in control, but I'm sure that deep down he was upset about the lack of widespread appeal, and the potential of the band.

Hopefully we'll see a rejuvenated Ed on the next tour (crossed fingers)

I would guess that he was most happy during the 5150 tour. His problems with Dave were behind him, and 5150 was doing great sales while they continued to fill arenas.

I'll have to say the 84' tour just because pics like these don't lie!

Eddie was definitely happiest during the 5150 tour. They proved they would be more successful then Dave at the time and it was like a blossoming new relationship. It was their first #1 album, another top ten single and more musical freedom for Edward to do what he wanted.

I think the next equivalent great time in Eddie's life was during the FUCK period in 1991 and 1992. It would be their third #1 album, their first Grammy, Billboard and American Music Award. They would win three MTV music awards, including "Video of the Year." Edward started the Music man and 5150 line of guitar and amps and most importantly, Val gave birth to Wolfgang William Van Halen on 3\16\91.

Hmmm, I'd say that picture is definitely from before 1984. I'd say that's from 1981.

Yeah, he look real happy when Gayry was rubbing and fingering his ass(his own not Eddie's) during that concert in Australia.
