Missed out on the newb's posts but I think this is a good idea Brett.

In the meantime I'm shutting up and reading.

So far my take on it hasn't changed either. I stand by my first post.

The part you didn't quote is a bit more important. Situations change.

Things truly go to shit when we get large influxes of newbies all at the same time. The Dome closing, the reunion tour, and perhaps certain widely published rumors all brought in rafts of people who all wanted to participate and didn't bother to get a feel for the culture or the norms. I'm not sure a cooling off period would change that sort of behavior.
I don't know if this will change how new folks act, but maybe it will. New posters are awesome to have, but at the same time we have to have some balance in order to keep the regulars happy.

I agree. For example, some of the best members here at the links here didn't register until around the time of the '04 tour. The good ones will stick around, the trolls will be weeded out in due time.

Can I ask a question please? Some new people sometimes have info that turns out to be legit and interesting. If they came to an admin about what they want to share and it deems worthy, would that admin post it on their behalf?

Question

Uhhmm...precisely what happened regarding the policy started on the first page of this thread? Surely if enforced properly, some of the whack-jobs as of late would have been either slowed down considerably or eliminated ? Is this a matter of software, or does this need to be enforced manually?

..."So starting today, members who have been registered less than 2 weeks AND have less than 20 posts cannot start new threads. Once you have fulfilled BOTH criteria, you can start new topics. Simple as that."
