i bought this vhs video in 1992 because it had this video on it.
he has another video where in it he sings a lyric that was something like "we know van halen".
and he shows a photo taken of all of them from that day.

That quote is from "Young Country."
"We like Ol' Waylon/Hey, we know Van Halen!
We like ZZ Top/We like country and rock."

Tell him practice makes perfect. Some parts were right on , he knows the mistakes. IMO the second half of Eruption is the easiest part. Respectable but not flawless the end needs to be tighter. Some dudes here exceed the expectations of simply playing the right notes so you have to understand anything other than right on is not going to garner much respect...unless you started playing 5 months ago or something.
This isn't hate...and people can hate on Dave and his Captain Stubing hat and giant "assumed phalic" mic but this is when VH lost their balls in my eyes. The 5150 walk, the vagina sign, all that stuff. Painful to watch. Not necessarily this video but that era and backstage "antics".

VH kind of went from THE PARTY hard rock band with rock songs that you could rock out and dance to. Then they became a cartoon style commercial rock band.
It was what was going on at the time but I do think that if Dave never left they also would have gone a bit cartoonish but not to the extremes that Van Wham did.
That being said, I love all eras of VH, and like the Eddie solo album in 1998.
