Poor Sarah. She probably really does wish it was just judged like a beauty contest.
BTW, I tend to like Rachel Maddow, but anything she says, or the way she frames a report is about as trustworthy as Hannity.

hell, if the politics thing doesn't work out, she could probably hire out at the Bunny Ranch. I'm sure there are folks that would line up to pay to screw a politician for once, instead of the other way around.

One bookstore in Michigan is expecting HUGE lines, one bookstore in Manhattan isn't carrying it because they can't see laying out the dough when most of their clients will not be interested. I like Matthews more than I do Maddow, and Olberman is a tool.
There's one aspect of MSNBC that tends to make it possible to stomach them more than Fox News, however, and it's their honesty. When I say honesty, I'm not referring to their reporting, but their format, rather. MSNBC doesn't try to fool you about their agenda. They are heavily liberal, they know it, and they don't hide it. They don't put forth a façade of "fair and balanced."
You really have to watch both Fox and MSNBC to get the complete picture, but the whole "fair and balanced" quip is just funny.

I'm not sure the complete picture can be had from American news.
Journalism is one of those things I've had to see die in my lifetime.
As for Palin, the idea is nothing but nightmarish. But the scary thing is
there is a contingent of people out there that believe the hype and
think the idea is a good one and would vote for her no matter how
pathologically obvious her incompetence becomes. You laugh, and it
is laughable, but as a Californian I laughed about Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Fair warning.

It can be, but only when one wants to see it. Take any controversial sociopolitical subject for example. Watch what Fox has to say about it, and then what MSNBC has to say about it. 90 out of 100 times, the best, most suitable answer is somewhere in the middle.

What I'm saying is when true objective journalism disappears and you have to composite reality out of a sum of biases/subtraction of propaganda, journalism, as such, no longer exists. This may be an exaggeration, but only a slight one.

For instance, Al Jazeera and the BBC (for the moment) are both far more objective and reliable than any of the American cable networks mentioned.
But when you have to import objectivity, this can't ultimately be good for anyone.

Ditto about Mccain and that pic. That is just so damn funny to me. lol
"just plain nuts" is hilarious. They should have called the book "cashing in" instead of going rogue. Palin is an attractive woman and charismatic but I'm hoping her 15 minutes is up soon. Though I don't doubt some people would support her in a bid to run for President I doubt she would have a serious shot to win or it even be close. Politics is frustrating anyway. The two party system and all the bs that goes on between them. At the end of the day I see very little difference in how any of them "do business".
I'd rather see a guy like Ron Paul in there and talked about. At least he has some great ideas for the USA and it's citizens. All this hoopla over Palin is just the garbage era we are in in this country it seems. Substance doesn't seem to be as important as it used to be.

It's not the media that's the problem. Again, all of these things are simply symptoms of a bigger problem, which is the social and political attitudes of the general public. Fox News and MSNBC are successful in putting forth biased coverage and viewpoints because that's what their viewers demand. A truly fair and balanced media outlet wouldn't survive in this country.
Media outlets don't generate ratings and revenue out of nowhere, just like politicians don't generate votes and donations out of nowhere. We get what we ask for in this country.
The only way to even attempt to drag ourselves out of the ridiculously deep hole that we've dug would be an intellectual revolution of some sort. The paradigm would have to make an amazingly large shift towards objectivity. Currently, we're not even close. People love to bitch and complain about the politicians, but their own dogma is what's keeping them in office.

The media (and I hate to use that word) is one problem. My comments therein
were kind of an aside when it was mentioned that anyone could get a comprehensive
picture from any of the networks mentioned. It's a farce, but I'm not going to
argue that we don't get the government (and news, entertainment, etc.) we
deserve. I tend to agree. That is what scares me, and is the larger point in
regards to this thread. The reasons America is dumbed-down are legion and
systematic. And again, this is what scares me about Palin. There are more
people than I am comfortable with who buy her act and/or would vote for
her simply because she's attractive (I guess) and is now their pet celebrity.
Which brings us full circle. The coverage of her is so spun out and
meaningless it maddening. Instead of puff pieces about manufactured
drama, the headlines should all read: Palin!? What, Are You Fucking High?
Your Voting Priveleges Have Been Revoked.
I can't believe anyone would take her seriously for one minute.
But there I go being elitist.

I'm regretting my Libertarian vote this year, as in retrospect McCain wouldn't be that bad with a Democrat Congress. Just like Obama wouldn't be that bad with a Republican Congress. It's when you get one party in control of the whole thing that it's a disaster. Palin in my estimation would not be any less qualified than our last Plutocrat-in-Chief.

I still agree with your vote. Regardless of outcome we need more voices in the process and it only takes a few percentage points from a third party to start raising the dialogue. Stick to your guns!!
