VH conjures up a certain image., and if its a hair outside that image it won't be accepted. what if we do put something out? first thing people are going to say is that its not as good as the classics. people forget, we put out 3 new songs for BOBW and they were never even reviewed, and when we played them live everyone just stood there. nobody said anything about them. why go to the trouble, spend all that time in the studio, and tons of your own money, since labels don't put shit out any more, when people are only going to complain about it or ignore it or download it for free on the internet? we may not record anything new again. there is satisfaction in it, but not when it comes solely at your own expense and when people are only going to shoot it down no matter what you do'.
compare that to what the Chickenfoot guys said. 'we did a record on our own because we wanted to keep the kind of music we love and love to play alive' and with no label,at their own expense, and their record went gold. pretty ironic.

I guess this interview makes it official, for the first time.
Edward Van Halen doesn't WANT to release a new record. Period. He doesn't want to front the minuscule recording costs (he has his own studios), there won't be a record. He doesn't have the cojones to face his critics.
There you have it. I'm sorry James, but you and your legions of optimists can dismount the tent, take down the flags and the banners, pack it up neatly, coz the party has been canceled! Now we'll be glad to welcome you guys at the Chickenfoot forum!

The irony here of course is that some people have been waiting for the knucklehead to start making music, since sometime in the 1990's.

Holy fuck! I thought it would be ridiculous but jesus! I guess i was somewhat correct.... He's a chickenshit! The bottom line is he's scared shitless to be riticuled for putting out music....any music...so what does he do? Essentially blame the fans for it. Real classy Ed! You know what? We've got some great stuff from when you actually had respect for yourself, your band, and the fans. Go be a gear salesman, and ride the VH legacy to cushion yourself. Tell me Ed.......How many nostalgia tours you gonna do with that Monster rhythm section of yours? Do us a favour....So FANS don't have to go to the trouble of complaining about which new music you may never put out....How about you just dig through some unreleased stuff, or better yet some video and release it. Problem solved. Congrats Ed. I think with this one interview, you've lost any dwindleing respect of your longtime fanbase!
What a load of shit!

Sammy said it best when he said about Eddie "I don't even know that guy.....I don't know who he is anymore."

If that ends up being the case then I am done with Van Halen as far as supporting them on a tour.
It seems like Eddie still hold the fans responsible for the VH3 debacle and Gary's departure. The guy did seem happy and inspred then and we did not like it.
He also seems to be holding Mike and all other past VH members responsible for not wanting to play with him anymore. When it was his drunk/messed up ass that started all the issues. Those "other half" dudes ofered nothing but support when you couldn't sober up for one night and celebrate the band's historic night.
Time to grow up Eddie, the world don't owe you shit. Time to accept responsibility for what YOU caused.

I guess we can close up that "All encompassing new album" thread now and start a "What songs do you want re-hashed for 18,000th goddamn time on the next tour" thread.

So, the other shoe FINALLY drops....to be honest, if this was his intention since 1998, I wish he would have just said so then and be done with it.

Exactly Eddymon! Look... I'm the child of alcoholism, as well as a former user myself. I was a miserable shit. I got straight from hitting absolute bottom. Physical and mental problems and all. it took a great deal of time to get back, and I still fight cravings everyday. The number one thing is taking complete responsibility for how you got to that point. Somehow I think Ed missed this step. He blames everyone else....Not so much for his addictions, but for who and how he has become. He's dead wrong. I don't give a shit if he does'nt want to play anymore. Hell.... if you want to call it quits fine, but do it honestly....to the fans, and to yourself. How many times have we heard, Oh wer'e back in the studio...or we're rehearsing for the tour. Now it's screw you (the fans) It's your fault I'm not doing another record". What a shithead move. Leads me to beleive that yeah he's a chickenshit, but also that either Dave or Wolf pulled the plug on him. Either way who cares. With an attitude like he has displayed toward the people who made him, who the hell would shell out the huge money to see another tour, let alone pay for an obvious halfassed CD? Yup Ed, you're right....They'ed download it for free, just to spite your bitter ass.

So does this mean that VH won't be playing at the Superbowl?
If he doesn't want to release anything new, just release any demos that were done with various singers. Heck release the 2nd album that was pretty much done with Gary. Anything.

I guess it's all about the bottom line for him. He won't release another record unless he HAS to financially.
So I strongly encourage my fellow linkers to NOT support another tour, vote with your wallets and send the loud and clear message that before touring they NEED to release another album. This guy has been on a 10 year "insulting the fans" binge. It's really time to stop.
If VH releases anything pre-1997 quality level, fans would support it. Now cowboy up and get to work, damn it!
