You will never be confused with being a good businessman!
You whine that you have music "certain" people don't like? That's never stopped you before-fire them like you did Mike and release the tunes.
People don't forget that you put out 3 songs on BOBW. The music was decent. Most people I have heard were critical of Sam's lyrics but liked your riffage. The shows I went to people weren't just standing there, they were rocking out. What are we supposed to do, whip it out and start whacking off to the new songs during the concert like Matt Bruck does every time you are in sight!
Why go to the trouble of hours in the studio? Because you are a musician dipshit! That's what you do.An NFL player plays-you guessed it; Football!
Got to spend some money? As previously stated, one look at your mansion and it's obvious your sitting on a pile of it! Can't take it with you so go for it!
Here's a novel idea: Instead of being so worried about people downloading for free, just release a few songs every now and again on your website for $.99. You would drive concert sales, back catalogue sales, stimulate your website traffic and sell a ton more of your ridiculously over-priced shit! (see good businessman comment above- what a dolt!)
And finally when you say "There is satisfaction in it, but not when it comes solely at your own expense and when people are only going to shoot it down no matter what you do" --Ive got news for you, said pile of money you have made has not come from you being "shot-down" very often! Take a chance, let's hear it. Hell, now you have my curiousity perked up; I want to hear this "tons of music" nobody will like even more now! Be a man, step up to the plate! I don't think I would be complaining for the lack of support while you sit in your multi-million dollar studio and your multiple McMansions, where you get to fiddle fuck around all day long in the studio or by your uber- pool with the downhill water park slide we have all heard you have! Most of us have to actually have to get up and work and scrape out whatever pitifull exsistence we have! Be humble, be appreciative-don't be a dick nuckle!
You've always said you would end up playing "Bavarian Cheese Whistle" or "Tuba" and some of us who have given you tons of our hard earned money over the years would probably be dumb enough to buy even these efforts from you! I just wish you were this scared before the release of "How Many Say I"- maybe we wouldn't be having this conversation.
You weren't to worried when you put out that jem of a record Diver Down, now that was a piece of shit, yet there we were to buy 1984 from you with baited breath- even knowing full well you were gonna experiment with the keyboards! I'd say the general public and the millions of fans have been very kind to you over the years! Shouldn't you give back a little? You don't owe us anything, but if a person posseses the talents you have and that God gave you; they are meant to be shared!
Ed, what do you have to lose? You sure as hell can't be worried about your reputation or lack of one at this point (see 2004 tour)? The looney tunes ship you've been aboard sailed long ago! No one can take you seriously at this point, but here's your opportunity to right the ship. One final effort with the "diamond one' for old times sake might just regain or give your rep back and the respect you crave! Then quit or retire and feel good that you regained some cred for your twilight years. Go out on top shouting at the roof tops, don't go out like a little bitch with this bitter, woe as me act. Get one for the Gipper! Bring back smilin' ,flyin' Eddie and get rid of this Edward guy we don't much care for! You can do it dutchman!
|
See, that's wonderful logic! Airtight, infallible, and it even comes with a mini pep-talk. If only Ed listened to logic...instead of acting based on his own emotions and insecurities, like he has since he was, I dunno, 18?

Eddie is reaching for shitty lame ass excuses to put out there when its more than likely that he cannot come up with shit.
He is a pussy plain and simple and I cannot wait until people like Kimmie come back in here and read all this hate towards him since yesterday. the guy deserves it all because he has done the most unthinkable. HE MISLED HIS FANS, even myself who has been one of the biggest Ed apologists on this board has now soured against him and I will not buy a ticket for the next tour nor will I buy the fucking lame ass video game that he has his son on trying to be classic VH. It would all change if this were just some big shitty misinterpretation of an interview and there actually is new music coming but I have lost hope of it.
Just fucking go away Eddie and stop trying to pimp your useless shoes, video games and ugly guitars on us. RETIRE ALREADY, we've had enough of your bullshit.

Well said. I met him once in Vancouver during some of the Balance recording briefly, and I can tell you this is not the same Eddie. The fire is gone. I still maintain that the only way he could possibly get over this shit is to actually try recording some new music with Dave. No it won't be the same as some 25 years ago, but alot of people would dig it if he kept to what is tried and true. What pisses people off justifiably, is this attitude of what's the point? If evey artist through in the towel with a stage of bad reviews, then |Clapton would'nt be around. Hell....Even Led Zeppelin had absolutely crushing reviews with several of their albums, including I.
I know it's a different world now. People download shit for free, sure, but you know what Ed? Thousands of people also borrowed cassettes, albums, and CD,'s from friends, family and coworkers to make tape copies of them too. Obviously not on the same scale as today, but the bottom line is, if you make a good album, the people will buy it. I don't think people are berating him for no reason.
There is a reason...The man is incredibly talented, and his music connects with people. Some like myself have followed them since the beginning...there's a connection. I think most of all, it's just that people are pissed at him for spending so much time destroying himself, then when he seems to be on the right track finally, people would love to hear the Ed of old; Kind of a vindication or rebirth of that magic he's known for, like Clapton after his heroin abuse.
Ed strung everyone along, lied repeatedly about working on stuff in the studio, and saying they're rehearsing for "the tour" so to read in not so many words that he blames the fans; the very fans he asked patience from during his cancer, he basically gives em a big "fuck You". and that there will be no new music because some people may not like it, it just seems like a big slap in the face.
I just think fans would have appreciated a little honesty.
Instead, he's become more of the commission car salesman pitching the great quality of the ride; trying to put you in the new guitar, amp, or shoes, by implying the possibility of new music, and a tour, then pulling the rug out after the initial sale offering no guarantee or warranty. It just makes you feel a bit used. It was simply a very poor statement. Imagine the reaction of people buying the mag for whatever the cost to read the followup to all of his recent exposure, only to have the blame put on the fan for all his troubles as well as his future. I think there will be a harsh reaction in the letters to the editor page. Eddie needs a very hard reality check. He's been in his bubble for far too long. I understand where he's coming from, but he's only got himself to blame for his failures..not the fans or friends. Good, bad or indifferent, we've always been there for him.

No...you worded it right Eddymon. I get what you're saying. Even in MJ's beyond fragile state, he went for it regardless of the intentions. Ed's nowhere near death obviously. He's just lost his nerve, but Jesus....it's not the fans fault for How Many Say I. The riffage on III was awesome. Just horribly produced with an ill fitting singer. The solution is simple for Ed's renewed success. Stay off the faders, and let Dave sing the fuck out of it! He can't lose. Michaels......I don't believe he has no music. Ed's a hoarder of riffs, and loops he puts together, so in a sense, yeah it's not actual music, but he's scared of his own shadow. He doesn't, or at least shouldn't have the booze to fall back on anymore, so the courage he found in the bottle isn't there anymore. It's classic boozer mentality to blame other factors for your shortcomings. That's not a dis on him, it's a fact. Hopefully he reads all this feedback....I know people do tell him whats what on the web. He might actually be shocked at all of it. God... 155 posts in a day and a bit on this site alone....and the mag has'nt even hit the stands yet!

In retrospect that whole setlist and everything was just so over-rehearsed lame ass excuse of a rock concert.
A band of the stature of VH having 1 fucking encore? Shit, I think they did 3 songs with Gary.

Some lunatics have invisible friends. EVH has invisible 10 albums worth of new material.

About a year ago myself and the great Van Halen band played together once or twice and it sounded amazing!
In the following several months Edward and I, Edward Van Halen and me, David Lee Roth, created some of the most amazing, phenomenal - the hands fell off the clock ladies and gentleman and we wrote three astonishing tunes.
That was last July (2000) and since then I haven't been up to the studio, we haven't really been in touch and we haven't made any music, but I am holding forth, I'm in the shape of my life and I got the high note - I'm ready to go.
And I am positive for the future ladies and gentleman.
Stay tuned and I'll tell you what the future brings..."

I am not surprised there is no new music, with his updates on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace , there has been ZERO updates on new music, if they were working on it there would have been some nuggets of information.

Yeah, given what kind of person Eddie has turned out to be makes me wonder just how much if anything he said about what went down in '96 is true or not.

I don't know...A part of me,all be it a SMALL part of me still
wants to believe that Ed was just speaking his mind at that
particular time, and if was asked that question today, would
give a very different reply...Which is VERY possible with the
way this dudes mind works now a days,as we all have learned.
You really do have to take everything he says with a grain of salt.
How many times has Ed said one thing, and TRULY believe it,
only to change his mind once again???...Countless times!!!
So im not going to bash the dude...I have been a die hard
VH fan for a LONG time, and i will enjoy the music he as
shared with us over the years and will continue to...
I still smile when i here the opening to Unchained as much
today as i did the first day i heard it.
If new music comes down the road AWESOME!!!
And if it doesnt???...So be it,life goes on.
There are lots of other cool bands and artists who continue to
release new music and who TRULY love and respect there fans
that i enjoy,so its NOT the end of the world musicaly for me.
Luckily for me,i havent invested alot of time hoping there
will be some light at the end of this very...
LONG,dark,and dreary tunnel...If i had done that,and tuned out
the rest of the music world in hopes that one day...
the MIGHTY VAN HALEN that i grew up listning to would return.
Eds comments would prolly have broken my heart.
So i dont feel all that bad today, just disappointed
The people that i DO feel bad for,if this indeed turns out to
be the way Ed really feels...
Are people like James,Eddymon,Kimmie and countless others here...
I feel for you.
