I've heard of him. For a shoe salesman, he plays a mean guitar.
He should join a band or something.

So far, so good.
I also believe that they have, besides working on new music, been rehearsing some great old songs we haven't heard in many years and that they will play them and the new stuff on tour next year.
I think that we will hear more about the new music by the time GH VH is released in late December and then NAMM and more through the Spring and then it will be VAN HALEN time once again, Spring/Summer 2010.
But I agree, Eddie should throw us more than hey Im working in the studio.
And I believe he will, soon.

Sometimes I think James is an insider. Maybe that's where all of his positive energy comes from -- he knows something we don't!

This is the thing in a nutshell. Good post!
There must be somebody in the VH organization who is far-seeing enough to realize this. If not, they should find someone. Some sort of professional manager who can come up with a long-range, game plan.
Like this:
1. January 2010--Put out an album. Expect that it won't go platinum. Die-hard fans will buy it. Many will ignore it. Expect it to not receive favorable reviews.
2. Do a tour. Doesn't have to be year-long. Just the sheds in summer.
3. September 2010--Put out another album. Right away!
4. Do another small tour over the winter.
5. April 2011--Put out another album.
6. Another summer tour. By this time, two or three of the songs on the first Van-Wolf album will have stood the test of time and will have become fan favorites and concert staples.
The Van-Wolf organization would be, by this point, a serious business with all of the kinks ironed out. The road crew is a seasoned, working unit and all the gears are turning.
Corporate backers would be very interested at this point because the band is up and running, and they have the advantage of a multi-platinum back catalog going back thirty years. This is when the serious money would be made.
So, there you have it. An eighteen-month plan worked out by a guy still in his jammies, based on the suggestion of a message-board moderator who is stuck in a crawlspace in Ohio. If we could figure it out, there has to be somebody in California who can!
Aerosmith is the only band I can think of who went multi-platinum with their comeback album after they fell apart. It's possible, but the odds are against it. VW needs to think long-term (and eighteen months isn't really that long) instead of swinging for the fence on their first pitch.

Excellent post -- and probably some backlash will happen... but to that I say, so what?
EVH has made the VH bed and now he has to lie on it. If this is the band he's always wanted, he shouldn't care what people think (why start now?!?). Don't not release a CD out of fear of poor reviews (III) or the Wolfie factor -- release a CD 'cause that's what musicians do and you've told your fans, for all intents and purposes, you will.
Personally, I think the CVH die-hards will be the largest group disappointed ("man, this ain't no Fair Warning!") if the hands don't fall off the clock. But whatever record company picks them up, I imagine the VH name alone will help them move mountains of CDs. Win, win.

The last Rush album in no way reminded me of "Moving Pictures." The last Springsteen album did not remind me of "The River." Frankly, I did not like either of them, but I'm glad they're still releasing stuff. Also, I have not heard it, but I'm guessing the last AC/DC record fell somewhat short of "Back in Black".
If EVH is waiting until he has another "Fair Warning" in the can, we will be waiting a long, long time.

Come on, think about it!

Most artists do not. But Eddie didn't live up to expectations on the '04 tour and a lot of people had spent a lot of money on that. And then he canceled shows people had booked flights from all over the world for on the '07-08 tour.
He doesn't owe us anything, but it would sure be appreciated!

you may still be in your jammies but I am out of that crawl space....that's why they call it a "crawl" space and not a "lie there and whimper" space.
I am strong, I am invincible, I am woooooooman.

I'm on to you!
Now, I'm supposed to say, "Well, where AM I supposed to lie there and whimper?"
And you zing me with, "There's probably a lot of that going on in your bedroom!"
And everybody laughs at me and the word goes out all around the internet that Daisy Hill owned Bullwinkle in the Eddie Van Halen Myspace thread and my public humiliation causes me to be impeached from the Presidency of the Oshkosh Philatelist Society and I die penniless and insane in a boxcar full of stale donuts bound for Chicago.
Not this time, sister!
...anyway, Myspace, Eddie, back to work, etc.

I think good things are coming. People that didn't like the 07/08 tour will likely find fault with it though because Wolf is in, for some because Dave is in, for others becuase EVH has taken the reigns over this dysfunctional band and it's a shadow of what it was or "should be".
Others will likely enjoy what comes.
I wish it was a perfect world too but it is what it is. If VH can capture the power and energy on a new release that was very evident last tour (which also rekindles the magic of the past chemistry) I will be thrilled.

That will be the category I will fall under. This is a rock-n-roll band, not my long lost daddy. I don't feel owed anything. Were the tix over priced on the last tour? Bet your ass they were but most payed it anyway and got a damn good show. If they never tour again it will suck, but there are a ton of other bands out there that are touring and putting out albums.
