Default When Eddie did the intros to "Hot for Teacher" and "Drop Dead Legs" this tour

....did Alex and Mike join in or was it just Eddie? I know all three played during "DDL" at the Tucson soundcheck, but I don't know if they all jammed in Detroit when it was played. And of all the shows I went to, the "HFT" intro wasn't played so I'm very curious about that as well.

In Jacksonville, FL during Ed's solo spot, Al played the HFT drum intro and Ed accompanied. Just the intro but the place went wild and would have killed for the rest of the song. I'm not sure how they were able to stop with the way the crowd responded. He also played intro to 'Women in Love', a bit of 'Neworld'. I've seen and heard Ed's solo performed many times, and although this performance may not have been as structured and organized as some of the others I've seen it was inspiring and technically as sound as any of his past solo spots on various tours, excluding the early days. Nothing tops Ed on the early tours, he was so aggressive, fast and his sound was killer. I think the tension with him and Dave really came through in a brilliant way. Ed's therapy perhaps.

In Tucson he played the intro for DDL then Al joined in and Ed stopped saying something to the effect of I don't remember the rest I haven't played that in years. I also don't recall HFT at all. If someone else was there wants to chime in, but I really don't remember him playing that at all.

I have that Tuscon soundcheck, and yea Ed does play DDL with Mike and Al joing in. Sounded GREAT too. They also jammed on a smoking version of I'm The One with Mike on lead vox.

At the Borgata gig, Mike, Ed and Al jammed on HFT before Ed ripped into his solo. The crowd went nuts, and was clearly disappointed when they cut the song short. There was even a Hot For Teacher chant in my section after When It's Love.

Default Detroit DDL

In Detroit Mike and Al didn't join in. Eddie played it during his solo for about 20 or 30 seconds by himself and then went into the intro to Women in Love.

He did the intro to Women In Love before Humans Being at the Borgata gig as well. I also heard he played bits of One I Want on the tour too, but I've yet to hear it.

I didn't know that Ed threw in some VH3 stuff during his solo? That's pretty cool, I know he held that music pretty dear to himself....just too bad the fans didn't (most of them, anyway). I love all Van Halen, so I'd love to hear some jams like that. It would have been cool during soundcheck if they ripped out some stuff from the VH3 tour. Sammy probably won't sing it, but it doesn't mean that the fans don't like it or don't want to hear it.

That would require Sam actually being at soundcheck, but I won't go there. As for VH3 stuff, I remember reading from somebody that Ed played a bit of From Afar at soundcheck. Would have been cool to hear that one too.

Yeah, but the singer not being at the soundcheck is sure a lot different than an instrumentalist not being there. He's got to perserve his voice for the gig.

Not sure I buy that. He hasn't had any issues with being at soundcheck's before.

I believe that the first time that the intro for HFT was played was at Staples Center. Forgive me if i dont remember exactly how it was started but this is my best recollection. It was at the beginning of either Al or Eds solo they started jamming Mike joined in. Now for the best part as Sam was heading off the staged he turned back and had the what the fuck??? Now what do I do? this isn't part of the setlist did I fuck up? I dont know what to do. Just then they stopped and were all busting up. It was great!

True, but he was a lot younger then.

He's done soundcheck's with the Wabo's as well. This tour was the first time I heard of him not doing soundcheck. He also did soundcheck's on the Balance tour when his voice was clearly not at the top level. Yet he still went out there with the guys without a hitch. The only problem really was that the guys would launch into a Dave era tune, and he took exception to that. I'm not sure what his issues are this time around, if there even are any issues.

What? Whaaaaaat? There was some playing of DDL on this last tour? That is my favorite song, bar none. I'm learning it on drums. I never heard that at the show on this last tour. SHIT. Maybe I was in the bathroom.
