All credibility was lost when the name "Krokus" was mentioned. He sucked then and he sucks now.

And why would that be? Perhaps you might like to elaborate on the subject. Try not to let your own predilections get in the way of making too many derogatory comments directed at your less preferred performer.
Your previous statements allude to the possibility of you suffering from starry eyed hero worship. The everyone sucks except my favourite performers mantra is not very endearing or clever.
What is most surprising is that Brett seems to be peddling the same sentiment

Oh so what, you're some kind of psychologist now? These are pretentious, self-absorbed sentiments if I've ever heard them.
Starry eyed hero worship? LOL. Sam's a great singer. He's not in my Top 5 either. To me he doesn't measure up to the likes of Freddy Mercury, Steve Perry, Phil Collins, Dennis DeYoung, and Chris Cornell on my list. Might wanna be sure you know what you're talking about before assuming your psycho-analysis is correct.
The guy from Krokus sucks. He's just another hack who capitalized off the eighties cheese metal scene. I'm not an Iron Maiden fan by ANY means but I'll agree that Dickinson's got a hell of a voice. So your "everyone sucks but my favorite performers" assumption is also, what a surprise, inaccurate. One of my favorite bands is Bon Jovi and I'll admit to Jon Bon Jovi having quite a few bad days in the live performance department. I don't have biases. If it sucks, it sucks.
Yeah. Brett's not the only one saying the same thing either. And I haven't made the friends I have here or kept going the last four years by riding Brett's or anyone else's coattails.
Got anything else?

I heard this song a long time ago and remember thinking, "Just when I thought I heard all of the eighties cheese I could, this proved me wrong!" That song is terrible, as is their other stuff I've heard.
I can't even fathom how this vocalist is even remotely compared to Sammy Hagar. Like someone said, he's a Kevin DuBrow wannabe, and may God rest his soul, but DuBrow wasn't all that great at what he did either if you ask me. That says something.
I always saw that guy as a Bon Scott wannabe or try to be or just happen to sound like. lol
It was the 80's anyway. A lot of bands and bad videos like that. It's really a matter of perceptive of what grabbed you then. I'm not a Krokus fan, never bought an album or saw them but besides being much better bands and singers during that era there were also worse as well.
It's all a matter of opinion and perspective. There is a comparison to Sammy imo but not in how they sound. See how that song is just kinda mediocre at best and the band just doesn't look cool? lol Well in my teens I saw Sam pre VH very much the same way back then. VH was the top of the heap with music, style, image, everything and SH was a much lower level artist with ok music, cheesy appearance and awkward looking bands. When he joined VH it might as well have been the Krokus guy. Him saying fuck Dave on tour in Philly 5150 tour didn't help me accept him more but he has talent and VH did make some good music that era so my opinion slowly softened some but even in CF it's just a mental block I have...when he starts acting cocky and says petty stuff about VH my life long impression of the artist kicks in and of course that is at odds with some here who just generally always liked Sam in the day and loved him in VH...or discovered him in VH and just always dug what he did.
Anyway...off topic eh. That dude sounds like Bon Scott not Sammy.
Not sure where this thread has been, and I'm not asking.
But I've always said 3 would've worked if they had followed through with
Dave like they should have. There's some good music on there. If it had been
treated/arranged/produced differently with Dave's knack for making songs out
of Ed's ramblings, it could've been great.
Alas. This along with Rhoads senseless death is one of the biggest rock fuck-ups of all time.
Oh so what, you're some kind of psychologist now? These are pretentious, self-absorbed sentiments if I've ever heard them.

Performers is plural, so it's not simply Sam.
Krokus has been around since the early 70's, do your homework.
Dickinson does have a hell of a voice, so did mercury and many others who all have better voices than Hagar.
My point in the beginning (if you have lost track of it) was that although Sam has a good voice, there are many that are better in his field. You may not agree about Storace, but there are certainly others. Storace is simply my opinion, the same as you believe Mercury et al have superior voices (I would agree).
If it sucks it sucks in your opinion.
The comparison was with the voice and not the band. Have you noticed at all that I have not made any derogatory comments regarding any singer or musician so far?
Your response (and Bretts) to me stating that another singer is better at those screeching rock songs than Hagar is to say "oh he sucks"................mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I never said I didn't like Hagar, simply that there are others that are better.
I always saw that guy as a Bon Scott wannabe or try to be or just happen to sound like. lol
Interesting you should say that because Krokus actually changed their style after seeing AC/DC perform live. They started to play riff based rock songs instead. So yes, they were heavily influenced and Storace has been compared to Bon on many occasions, Plant as well. I would assert that both Bon and Plant are better of course.

Oh sure, not a great band by any stretch but they did OK and were/are popular in Europe, Hagar was no better pre VH! The comparison was simply between Hagar and Storace regarding that type of screeching rock singing which I am not too fond of.

Well I wouldn't have said Hagars voice sucks, but you know each to his own
I could care less if you did.
Not sure why you care what I think of a band like Krokus. They're terrible, were terrible in the 80's and even worse listening to them now. Just forgettable cookie-cutter hair band garbage. Whether they sold out to fit the time, compromised their own music, well that was their decision. The result was awful music.
Not sure why I need to say differently, it's music, I am pretty sure a Krokus fan (all 4 of them) will still pump their fist to their lame cover of Ballroom Blitz whether I like them or not. Like you saying you can't stand Sammy's voice...BFD, changes nothing for me.
And if you can't laugh at poking fun of fucking Krokus...KROKUS? Come on lighten up a little.
Bottom line is that NONE of us ever said Sammy Hagar is the greatest singer to walk the face of the earth, but he is a better voice for Van Halen than Gary Cherone was, and it doesn't take a genius to hear that. And the fact that Eddie forced Gary to sound like Sam tells you Ed knew what worked too. Even as cracked as he was.
As far as Dave vs. Sam, I don't waste my time with that stupid shit, and people who do after all these years make me laugh because it's a waste of time to debate.

Tons of Van Halen!

I actually don't. it was never about krokus themselves, they are merely mediocre.

I didn't say that. I do like Sammy's voice but I'm not particularly fond of the screeching which is becoming increasingly more common. maybe it's his age I don't know. Sam does deserve credit for performing and singing the way he does at his age though.

Yes you are probably right. It has been my opinion that Cherone sounded different on that recording because of the way it was recorded/produced, the same way all the instruments on that recording sounded different. The drums for example not only sounded different but sounded outright awful. Was Ed trying to make Gary sound like Sammy? I dunno. I didn't think so but what would I know? I do know that 3 was not finished with the same degree of sonic polish we are used to hearing on Extreme recordings.
As for who was the best fit for VH you would have to say Sammy in the absence of anymore material with Gary. My opinion was and is that Gary was/is a better overall vocalist than Hagar. I thought he did a good job of all the VH material on that tour.

Yeah well I suppose that simply comes down to which version of VH you prefer. I like both but tend to like the earlier stuff more, however I actually find I listen to them both about the same.
I suppose the whole thing comes down to me not seeing things quite as black and white as you do Brett. For example you say "the fact that Eddie forced Gary to sound like Sam". Ok maybe you know a lot more about it than I do but how do you know this is a FACT. It is more of an assumption is it not?
