I actually thought they were just joking around also...in fact I'll bet the whole thing was scripted and they planned to sing happy b-day to Ed....I mean Dave didn't miss a beat when they stopped the song and he started singing it.
And while some people are commenting on the sound....from my seat about half way back, Ed's side, 10 rows up....I could hear the guitar perfectly the entire night, and it was the best live guitar sound Ed has ever had IMO.
As Poundcake said...it could have been a bit louder in my seat, but my ears are thankful as they were not ringing at all after the show. Last tour was so loud I took earplugs to the second show....I think the new sound company is just being too careful and they will bump it up a bit.
