Yes, at least at the Dallas show he did. IMO, I imagine there's a DVD in the works and so he's telling the same story every night to keep it consistent.

I actually thought they were just joking around also...in fact I'll bet the whole thing was scripted and they planned to sing happy b-day to Ed....I mean Dave didn't miss a beat when they stopped the song and he started singing it.

And while some people are commenting on the sound....from my seat about half way back, Ed's side, 10 rows up....I could hear the guitar perfectly the entire night, and it was the best live guitar sound Ed has ever had IMO.

As Poundcake said...it could have been a bit louder in my seat, but my ears are thankful as they were not ringing at all after the show. Last tour was so loud I took earplugs to the second show....I think the new sound company is just being too careful and they will bump it up a bit.

I saw Van Halen with Dave 6 times before this tour, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, twice in 1984, and i swear they never sounded better than they did Saturday night!! They were tight!!

Well here is the video of it....it was just Dave being a smart ass and wanting to throw it in the middle of the song IMO. The way Ed looks around and stopped the intro I still think it was staged.

I agree! Dave was just being Dave! Did anyone think the sound was bad? I thought it sounded great.. just not that loud. It was all good though.
