It was the final three days of the tour in 1973, and Plant's voice was shot. The playing was fairly dismal as well, but this was due more to fatigue and for hamming it up in front of the cameras, as Page would not succumb to heroin addiction until sometime in 1975.

I enjoy and respect CF and how they have gone about things so it was just a little tease but you are nuts!

The Song Remains The Same is an embarrassment. Zep should NEVER have put that thing out. There are a TON of live videos from other bands that pee all over that thing.

And isn't that a pisser? The fact that Led Zep live footage is comparatively rare makes The Song Remains The Same as some sort of reference point for people, when in truth, it was flippin' lousy. The only reason it came out is their manager panicked when Plant got injured in a car wreck, and saw all of the potential profit from a tour go flying out the window. So the movie was nailed together to keep the cash flow going.
And it really does stink. Outside of the opening of "Rock And Roll" and the medley section of "Whole Lotta Love", you get a bunch of truly tedious mood music, with concert footage that only works if you've managed to get through a bottle of Romilar cough syrup and a couple joints. And when you think about it, at that point, just about anything that keeps you from nodding off altogether is seen as inspirational.

You should revue some of the 1977 tour footage. You and I have both played Les Pauls, right? In some of this footage, the guitar weighed more than Page, dripping wet. And the playing...Oye.

I respect you guys as people I never met and posters, site owners who I often enjoy interacting with but the main solo for Since I've Been Loving you and The Rain Song alone not only trump CF but most bands since creation...sloppy as you all say it is. lol Now maybe this is just my humble opinion but it's all I got! lol

I thought you said Page's Les Paul's were uncharacteristically light...which no offense I don't buy. Hey I'm not looking at SRTS as the benchmark for Zep's Live excellence but I made a joke about CF and ZEP. Maybe I should have picked Led Zep DVD as a better example? lol Either way SRTS is a cool glimpse into an amazing band while they were active and as much as I like CF I can't compare the two, their songs , compositions etc no matter how flawless and drug free their live performances are. I'm not even going to seriously get into that. CF was far from flawless on their tour and don't have songs half as good. Still true comparison wasn't my intent and it's blind silliness to even think they exist in the same sentence to begin with. Maybe The Wiggles perform flawlessly too. Maybe they put SRTS to shame and piss on it as well. lol

I don't think Zeppelin was ever that amazing live. An incredible studio band, never blown away by anything they did live. Page for all his brilliance in the studio and as a songwriter, could be downright awful live, bordering on embarrassing. And Plant with all his yelping, good god, it becomes grating. Frankly Bonham and JPJ carried them live, rock solid. I love Zeppelin, but live they leave a lot to be desired. Twenty minutes of Page's solo noise on "Whole Lotta Love" and "Dazed and Confused" is seriously BORING.
I just don't bow at the pantheon of Zeppelin when it comes to their live shows. Van Halen beats the shit out of them live, as do a whole host of other great live bands. You can put that Zeppelin DVD up against anything you want, I'll throw you the three VH tunes from in '81 in Oakland...game over.

It's not game over. We can agree to disagree. I'm not sure we value the same things and all that so all things aren't equal but one thing is for sure...(and I like Cf even saw them live) Long after CF are forgotten and we are all gone Zep's music will still be known and revered. That is true and says it all despite differing opinions.

Wow way to go out on a limb there. LOL. Led Zeppelin will be remembered. You sure??????? LMAO. How about those guys that called themselves....um...The Beatles I think? Hey I bet they're famous one day.
Still doesn't change the fact that Zeppelin weren't that great live....at least in my eyes I never thought they were.

Out on a limb? No. Come on man. You are a musician. You know the deal. The Beatles, Zeppelin, Hendrix, EVH ..their music will all live on beyond us and CF becuase their talents and creations were...(hopefully EVH's VH's future creations will still be.... don't go there lol)...exceptional, innovative and a benchmark very few will rise to. Mozart and Beethoven are still known...why? How many other classical composers of their time are lost in history? Who I mentioned will live on. You are a guitar player bud and or/also a musician. How can you deny that or even consider that going out on a limb?
Sloppy live? That is their legacy? I never got to see them live first hand. From the tons of stuff I have on them there are many performances where they are not only tight but it's a display of 4 talented dudes really pumping out some amazing music.
I love VH and I think the oakland videos are cool and FW is a killer album but as much as I love it and maybe more than LZ it's not a good example. I mean Unchained starts off with a major mistake, As much as I love CVH and DLR often times DLR forgot the lyrics live.
Please a CF dvd is nothing compared to Zep. It's ridiculous that we even discuss it. I love Satch and like CF's album..I'm a supporter.. initially I only made a joke(whole bejesus) but I can't stand idly by while my fellow link members make casual slags against Zeppelin...especially your Brett a fellow guitar player...man look at his volume of work...how can you look at the main solo for Since I've been loving you on SRTS and not be inspired? It's not metal, technical, or shred enough or something, that is pure gold right there. amazing shit. Heart. imo
All I got is my opinion and now you all have it in spades...and apparently don't agree with it so ...peace. lol

Hey Chef, when I posted that about Page I just knew if I had my dates wrong it's ok, Chef will know and correct me!
As for Led Zep live, I think their BBC stuff from the late 60's is smoking live music, but outside of their early years I agree with Brett in that they were a better studio band than a live band.
As for '81 Oakland, putting Fair Warning era live VH against anybody isn't fair in my opinion. Maybe the best live act ever on the WACF/FW tours. Of course I am about three years to young to see Led Zep with my own eyes and it is almost always better in person than on tape, but their boots and SRTS are just not that impressive.
As for John Paul Jones, as a guy that plays bass in a hack band, I just think he is amazing and incredibly underrated. What a guy to have in your band.
Singer - check
Writer - check
Producer - check
Arranger - check
Incredibly bass player - check
Play anything with strings - check
Play anythings with keys - check
Him and Bonham, wow, what a bedrock bottom for a band to have.
