The last I heard AC/DC's BLACK ICE was around 2 million, have no idea of G´N´R.

Those are CDs from successful, established brand names so I'd imagine both will end up outperforming CF's CD easily. For example, if VH puts out another album, it will definitely outperform the debut CF CD in sales, even if it's only as good in quality as VH III.

At this point, CF's CD reaching Gold looks possible, as the sales should jump back up a little from the U.S. leg of their tour. I had hoped it would perform even better but I was wrong to think that it could reach platinum status due to CF's narrow target audience (at least among the music-buying public), economic conditions in the U.S., and the overall purchasing habits of music consumers, especially considering that it's a debut from a brand new band. The bottom line is that I think it's been successful enough for CF to put out more music in the future, which is all I was hoping for.

Yeah, I'm just wondering where all the fans went. Did they die off or what.
Didnt Marching to Mars go gold and I think red voodoo sold over 300k. I'd say CF easliy goes gold. They still got a US tour and 3 more singles to release.

The 'Foot will do just fine in sales in the long run. I think they've already proven that by hitting #4 on the charts the first week. The disc going gold would be pretty damn major for ANY act in this day & time. It ain't 1987 anymore...

I think the hardcore SH fans are buying it, as well as the hardcore VH fans that pay attention to all the band happenings but aren't Rothtards. However, I don't think the hardcore Satch and RHCP fans are buying this thing, since it's somewhat of a musical departure for Satch and his solo stuff and is definitely a departure for Chad and his work in the RHCP. Also, not only has a been many years since "Marching to Mars" (12 years) and "Red Voodoo" (10) were released, but those were released by an established brand -- Sammy Hagar. They were also released soon after SH's initial departure from VH when VH and SH were more relevant entities in the mainstream music world than each are today.

Well I don't think its really easy to get the exact details from neilson, but Billboard uses neilson to reach their chart (Wheras Hits Daily Double uses another service), and according to billboard, the single "Oh Yeah" is number 23, the highest so far. So its increased airplay every week since release, and is at its highest.

Default mediabase charts

http://www.americasmusiccharts.com/index.cgi?fmt=R5

This is the closest to Nielseon that you'll find. Its mediabase. Peaked at #2 for rock radio airplay, not bad.

There is still a huge crowd that does not even know this band put out some music. Seriously , I am running into people that are like "what ?" ........"Chickenfoot?" People already know who AC/DC is, G N R , etc............ where people will walk in and just buy the disc sometimes without even listening to at least a little bit , just expecting it to be good. That equates to A LOT of " automatic" sales. Chickenfoot will take time. Long run sales will be good!!

Stateside, Chinese Democracy was certified Platinum on February 3rd 2009, and is Platinum in Australia and Argentina also having been released November 23rd 2008 debuting at number 3 in the US charts. It topped charts in 8 countries in the world and by early June 2009 it had attained world sales of 3 million. Release single hit 34 in US charts, 5 in rock charts...follow up single "Better" hit 18 in rock charts and the third single a - radio-only promo single - has failed to chart. For comparison, Chickenfoot's sold around 266, 000 copies so far in the USA and CD sold 261, 000 in its opening week. Worth noting all this is without a music video, without a supporting tour, and with the incredibly negative press which surrounds Axl Rose.

Black Ice was released in varying places around the world between October 17 and 22, 2008 and sold 1.762 million copies worldwide in its first week, topping charts in 29 weeks including the USA. US sales were 784, 000 in opening week. Sales by October 26 were past the 5 million mark. By May 2009 it had hit 8 million copies worldwide. They have another North American leg, an Oceanic leg in 2009, with plans for South American, Japanese and additional European tours in 2010.

Yeah, but at the same time I think it's worth noting classic rock is undergoing a vast resurgence worldwide right now too. Black Ice's opening week sales were 777% higher than Stiff Upper Lip's, becoming their highest selling record since The Razor's Edge (1990)...out of the fourteen albums AC/DC has released, the new record is the sixth highest selling.

From what I can tell the band really hasn't been pushing this album down people's throats - I think they're saving promotion for the North American tour period. They'll work harder at pushing up sales then. I also think the live audience will be far higher - lots of people go to see bands with famous artists in even if they can't be bothered to buy their latest album. The show will sell a lot of albums.
