As the Sam/Dave tour rolls on, Sam will increase the VH material...guaranteed!

When I was in Vegas last weekend he made mention between songs "you guys are all Van Halen freaks" (in a good way).

He knows what works and since he's only got 90 minutes in front of serious VH fans, he'll deliver. graemlins/thumb.gif

How about these possibilities:

1.) As the tour progresses, Sammy plays more VH tunes and Dave plays more solo material

2.) Sammy continues to play more VH until his Van Hagar set goes up against DLR's Van Halen set

3.) Mike joins the tour and plays for both Sam and Dave

I heard sammy say it's hard for him to decide what he's going to play and what he's going to leave out. He's used to playing 2 1/2 hours so his show is going to be cut in half.

I think it's harder for him to figure out what to leave out, than to leave in.

Here's the "Must Play!" list.

ICD55
Heavy Metal
TOOWTR
Eagles Fly
LWL
Mas Tequila

That's about 1/2 hour worth

Couple of new ones:

Shaka Doobie
Deeper Kind of Love

Old ones...
Rock Candy
Bad Motor Scooter

VH...
WCTBL
Poundcake
Runaround
Standing On Top of the World

That leaves less than 1/2 left for a few more... graemlins/thumb.gif

Dreams?
Right Now?
Finish What You Started?
Feels So Good?
3 Lock Box?
I Don't Need Love?
Can't Stop Loving You?
Summer Nights?
Best Of Both Worlds?
Space Station #9?
Red?
Two Sides of Love?
Good Rockin' Tonite?

Sam said he was going to do 6 Van Halen songs, which is about double what he normally plays. He implied he'd be playing about 15 songs in his setlist, 6 Van Halen, probably at least 1 Montrose, and he commented he opens with Shaka Doobie.

If my speculation is correct, that leaves us with seven other songs that will probably be taken up by about a 4:3 or 5:2 ratio of pre-VH and post-VH solo material.

Sam likes to play a variety of material. I see him settling in on the cream of each source he has to draw from and sticking with it.

I hope you're right Stuff, Sammy has an impressive catalog he can work with. He'll even impress the die-hard DLR fans if they give him a chance. Even if they don't, he'll still impress. graemlins/thumb.gif

One note: Sammy's guitarist Vic is no Eddie and don't expect him to be. Rather than butcher Eddie's solos he just simplifies them. No prob.

Less than 1 week til showtime. graemlins/bounce.gif

How long were those shows in Vegas? I was there, albeit a bit hammered graemlins/drunk.gif , but the shows didn't seem very long. Maybe a bit over 2 hours if that.

The first night he came out and made his Waborita on stage himself and commented it was the middle of the show but 5 or 6 songs later it was over.

One thing about Sammy is he whipped the crowd into a frenzy with all the killer tunes he brought but both nights he sent people home flat, almost dissatisfied  with the Planet Us stuff. Not that it isn't good but it's dark and nobody knew it. Strange way to end the show.

***It's important to point out many of the people I saw there were fair-weather Sammy fans who don't know anything past Van Hagar or the radio hits. Picture Bob Costas there dressed for dinner kinda standing in place tapping his foot.

If Sammy ever does a solo show and doesn't play "Red", I will make the full blown conversion to listening to only country music. Thank God that will never happen!

Looks like Sam sure is clustering up all the Van Hagar stuff into one nugget. graemlins/thumb.gif

One question. "Give to Live"....was it acoustic, or did they do the studio version?

That set list from the 17th doesn't sound too bad, although Shaka Doobie really didn't do much for me. Sammy's got better songs on Marching to Mars he could replace that with. Like Salvation on Sand Hill, maybe?

Sammy played 3 shows recently at the Filmore in SF with Wabos. On the third night James H. and Lars from Metallica were up on stage with Sammy and Mike. The other band he's in with Mike, Deen Castronovo, Neil Schon, ?, ? also played one of those nights.
