Pulled this off of vh@yahoogroups a few minutes ago via one of the members. I have no idea if it's true or not:

Some Gossip From The Upcoming Sam & Dave Tour...

1) They are already fighting

2) Dave's is supposedly using a stage set-up that is nearly identical to the 1984 Van Halen stage set-up requiring 10 trucks as opposed to the 2 trucks for Sam's stage set

My take?

We'll see.

All I know is that at least Cleveland is the first show!

Ridiculous....

You can't set up a stage that mammoth (pardon the pun) between sets.

At the Gorge it wouldn't matter anyway.... the stage is built in. I'm not even sure there would be possibilities of many modifications....

There is NO WAY Dave could use a stage set up that big at Riverbend! Like Ford said, the stage is already there and it's pretty damn small. If it's true he might have to "rethink" his stage setup. But the 1984 setup or something close would be pretty damn cool. :D

This has been overblown. They've been jabbing each other, pretty much in fun though. Sammy's gotten his hits on Dave too. Once the tour starts, it's not like they're going to be living together or married to each other. They probably won't even see each other on alot of days.

How many trucks does it take to carry around a bunch of fake speakers????

when they say "1984 stage" I'm sure they're just talking about fake speakers and TV antenas! :D  graemlins/thumb.gif

Anybody notice that it is HAMBURGER HEADŽ Vince G. posting a negative rumor about Dave?

Why is this not surprising.

I don't think there's much to this rumor. Blossom's stage couldn't accomodate a 1984-sized setup.

Where I come from, if you're older than four and go around calling people "hamburger head" (with or without the clever copyright icon), you get the everliving crap kicked out of you.

And deservedly so.

The initial post I made was just something I saw at the vh@yahoogroups mailing list, and decided to post here for all to see. I post *anything* of interest from there here in this forum. How is the post negative towards Dave? All it states is that he's supposedly using a 10-truck stage setup as opposed to Sam's 2-truck setup. If it is true, so what? So Dave wants to be over the top while Sammy remains a bit more subdued. Big deal. That's Dave's style. We all know that.

You want some more negativity?

Dave: The biggest loudmouth in rock and roll, beaten out only by Quiet Riot's Kevin Dubrow. Not a people person with the fan base, unless you look like a Playboy Playmate or the current popular porn star.

Alex: One of the most conceited and arrogant celebrities I have ever met. Dude, chill out. It's only rock and roll. You're not the coolest person to ever grace the face of the earth. Dave has that area covered and copyrighted. Quit acting like Billy Bad-Ass. I think you better be the one that oughta think about wearin' a cup sometimes.

Edward: Stubborn. Bullheaded. Egotistical. A bully. You're not Ted Templeman, Bruce Fairbairn, or Quincy Jones. Leave the producing to the guys that know what they're doing and stick to what you know: just play your guitar. I'm willing to bet Alex would've done a better job of producing "III".

Michael: A coward. Learn to speak up more, Mike. You wanna play Universal and Devore with Sam and Dave? Tell Al, "FUCK YOU! I'm gonna do it. End of fucking story!" Do what makes you happy. Had he done this a long time ago whenever Van Halen was on a break, who knows what projects he could've participated in.

Sammy: A marketing pimp. He must've taken a course in business from Gene Simmons. His voice is nothing live without the magic of a good tech at the soundboard. If he concentrated on his album sales as he does his tequila, every subsequent solo album after Van Halen would've hit #1. His audience rapport sucks ass. He just doesn't have what Dave had, and always will have. Also, lose some weight!

Gary: Another coward, who should've told Alex to shut the fuck up when Al was talking serious shit about him to another people in front of HIM! It shouldn't matter that he was the "new guy".

Positivity? You got it.

Dave: A loudmouth, yes. But that makes for hell of a frontman. There is nothing you can tell me that will convince me, or anyone else, that David Lee Roth is the best showman to ever front a rock and roll band. Period. His rapport with the audience is unmatched by anyone. Many have tried to duplicate his style, and nobody has come close. His ability as a lyricist is just too fuckin' cool, when he's not talkin' about chicks, cars, and parties. It's hard to understand sometimes what his song is about, but when you finally do get it, it's cool how he worded it. It's called "Dave-speak".

Alex: A very gifted musician. Listen to "Respect The Wind". The entire arrangement is all Alex. I would not be surprised at all if all the music in VH is, and was, arranged by Alex, but has somehow always been credited to Ed. His drumming has matured beyond anything any of us has probably ever imagined. As a new drummer today, if you don't credit Alex as an influence, you need to reevaluate yourself. Also, once you get past the arrogance, he'll talk your ear off about YOU, not about music.

Ed: A guitar god. Plain and simple. The man could tune his guitar in front of a live audience and most likely get a standing ovation. He's also a sweetheart of a man that will greet you first, and as you leave, say goodbye to you with a hug as though he's known you his entire life. Always there to help out a fellow musician, and always for free. I don't think I've ever heard of an instance where he's charged for his services, or insisted on credit on an album or song unless he wanted it.

Mike: A bassist that can lay down a solid groove and bottom end like no one else. His voice is a Van Halen trademark. I don't think I can imagine any Van Halen song without his voice in the harmonies. He's also the most approachable of any of the band members, and will remember you the next time you meet him, even if you only spoke with him for 3 seconds. How many musicians do you know will put out an open invitaton to come and party with him via his web site? Warm-hearted and extremely affable, almost to the point of where he doesn't want to offend you.

Sammy: A savvy businessman, and the best singer the band has ever had. That's right, singer. Though Dave does a good job, I still contend he's a vocalist and not a singer, much in the same way people regarded Jim Morrisson a "vocalist" and not a singer. His songwriting skills are outstanding, though it does tend to get boring hearing about sex all the time. Between Dave and Gary he's done the best job out of bouncing back from an ugly situation.

Gary: The most mature of ANY of them. He knew he was in a no-win situation, told the brothers what they needed, and bowed out before it might've got any worse. As bad as he got beat by both the media and the "fans", he should be nothing but a pile of bones by now. Also, the most energetic performer onstage Van Halen has ever had. They will never have a lyricist on his level, ever again. Another member, former or existing, that is very approachable and kind-hearted. I'm torn between who is better, Mike or Gary. A great singer who, had he been left to his own devices and not been forced to sing a certain way, would've really added another demension to the Van Halen history with the follow-up to "III".

Separately, all of these guys have issues, as we all do. But, get them all together, be it in the studio or onstage, and we get some of, if not the best, music you will ever listen to in your entire life. It all goes back to that old music adage, "It's just magic when we get together".

Oh yeah, one more thing. "Hamburger Head"??? JHC, man...grow the fuck up already. Be original, for chrissakes.

Great post Vince...

...so what was Al saying about Gary?

Wolfman

You know, Vince - that was a really good post. smile.gif

I think most people either take a negative point and dwell on it, or accentuate the positive to the point where they put their chosen idol on a pedestal and see them as not capable of doing any wrong. That's enirely evident everyday right here on these message boards.

Very importnat that we remember that everyone ever involved with VH is not a one-dimensional cardboard cutout lacking different facets to their personalities. They are human beings just like the rest of us, with the exception of being under a microscope constantly for everyone to view the details of. And unfortunately, extreme qualities are what sells in the media, as well as within the talk that populates message boards.

Good post Vince... and don't give the negative assholes the attention they crave(kinda like I just did!?! :D )

Interesting read and that's killer that you've actually got to hang with the band I've idolized for over 20 years now.

peace and love to all VH fans...

peace and love to all VH fans...Thank you, everyone, but back up a bit here. I've never said I've "hung out" with the band. I've been extremely fortunate to take part in a Meet n' Greet that went far beyond any normal 60 second Mn'G, and I went to Mikey's Cinco de Mayo bash last weekend. But, to say that I've "hung out" with the band makes it sound as though I'm up at 5150 every waking moment and break bread with Ed and Al. Nope. It's never happened, and I've never said that. I don't want anyone accusing me of starting something I've never said. It's just luck of the draw that I've been in the right place at the right time.

Thanks again! graemlins/thumb.gif
