Okay so I went to the show with some guys and after a forgettable opening act (Entombed) I started asking the guys if they liked Van Halen. We talked of the reunion rumours and believe it or not, they surprised me by saying that they prefered Sammy Hagar over DLR, saying his voice was a better fit for EVH's guitar playing! I asked them if they EVER listened to Fair Warning - after a negative response, I just said you guys don't know what you're talking about and stopped talking about Van Halen. Case closed! It's IRON FUCKING MAIDEN's night anyway!

So Halford hit the stage. He started with three songs from his latest CD. Although they were VERY good, catchy, and the band was very tight, Rob didn't move much on those songs and the crowd was very quiet. When he started playing the Priest classics though, he really got the crowd going. The Priest songs I remember him playing was: Stained Class, Running Wild, Breaking the Law, Hellion/Electric Eye, Riding On The Wind, Tyrant. He also played a FIGHT song called (I think so, but please correct me if I'm wrong Ed6150) Into The Pit. All things considered, Halford was a VERY worthy opening act for Iron Maiden.

When Iron Maiden hit the stage the crowd were going nuts. (They successfully filled the Molson Centre). They opened with the first three songs from their newest albums, and the crowd KNEW these songs... it was AWESOME! Bruce was jumping all over the place and controlling the crowd (as usual). They played a total of 17 songs. I will not say the setlist as it was the same as every other show they played so far. For me, the highlight was the 6 new songs they played, and Bruce's rendition of "Sign of the Cross", a Blaze-era song. Thanks for a great show, Steve, Nicko, Adrian, Janick, Dave and Bruce! I've yet to see a band with the energy these guys have.

So Spanish Doctor, are you telling me that you've never seen the original Van Halen lineup? Because, THAT'S energy.

I never saw Van Halen AT ALL, with any lineup. But Iron Maiden are in their early forties, and we'll see how VH match when they tour with Roth.

Yes, there was several Eddies... but like I said before, I don't care about this stupid mascot, and never did! (And this statement is considered sacrilegous among Maiden fans)

The one Eddie I REALLY like though is the one on the "Killers" album cover. He looks so cool with that axe!

I like the Eddie-cyborg on Somewhere in Time too.

Yeah, those two 'Eddies' are my faves as well.

I didn't really like how he looked on NPFTD. Ed Hunter looks cool. He's more buffed and looks like he can kick ass!

I gotta ask ya a question though. What was the idea around Eddie? How did he come about as an image for the band? I know how they got their name---something from a book (or was it a movie?) called "Man in the Iron Mask".

What I will tell you comes from what I remember of what I've read of "Run To The Hills", the official Iron Maiden biography.

He was originally a mask that was hung on the wall, over the drumset, and fake blood was spilling from its mouth, and it became a concert trademark from their early days, and he got nicknamed "Eddie the 'Ead" and it went from there. Hope I shed some light! http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

Thinking back to Entombed I thought they were OK, but the lead singer was too Metal for his own good - bangs his head against a brick wall...
I think I am right in saying that Maiden are coming back to England but to Birmingham this time - the home of Sabbath!
They had a interview with Ozzy on the other night and they talked about him being in the same hotel as Motley Crue and Motley Crue were flipping out as Ozzy was God etc, Ozzy just walks out to the pool doesn't say a word to the band, sees a line of ants scurrying around a split fizzy drink, knelt down and snorted the line of ants up his nose - Now that is Metal!!! So funny! The guy has such a great sense of humour.

Thanks Doc!

I thought there was a story behind Eddie. That's what it seems like in the album covers.
