Chef, I'm glad my simple opinions and speculation made such an impact on you! I'll think of you next time I have any. Fact is the internet, and to go even deeper, THIS messageboard is for exactly that. Opinions and speculation, none of them hurt anyone personally and it's fun to do it. The ticket prices I figure was a valid complaint considering tickets for every other show were at least 20 dollars cheaper than what I paid for that particular show. I'm by no means a fan of putting crazy expectations into things, but I don't think there's anything wrong with some fanboy speculation and discussion on a messageboard.
Paul, if you'll notice I only used you as an example, and at no time have I held you up as an object of ridicule. I merely used your postings as a point of reference for establishing what I meant to say, being that expectation of something is usually outweighed by the presented event itself, and the various reactions to it once it has appeared.
Tell me, was your experience at the show a delightful one, and if so, did it not wipe away your initial reservations about attending it? That is ultimately what I am attempting to address here. The anticipation of something, it's arrival and the impact it has, both immediate and long-term.
VH delivered on my expectations when I saw the last tour. So much so that I bought another ticket the next day for a show later that week. It was a fucking blast hearing the classics and seeing Dave and Ed on stage together (despite Dave looking like a complete fucking homo most of the night).
But I have little need for new music from them. I've been so disappointed with anything new the past 12 years that I'd just assume turn to the old catalog when I'm in the mood. I really don't have much faith that they will deliver with new music that will keep me coming back to it 5 years after it's released.

Van Halen with Cherone - Hated it, it sucked, and you ain't changing my mind.

No hard feelings implied.
Well, I surely appreciate you trying to clear it up. And yeah, both CF shows I attended may have been some of the best (if not THE best) "concerts" I've ever seen. I never had any real reservations about attending it, I mean if it's a SH/VH/DLR related event I'm there no matter what, and I already liked Chickenfoot. All the anticipation and speculation I believe made it even better. Those dudes are just on a whole other level live.

yep...back in the day DLR was a pillar of heterosexuality...not like today...what a fag.
__________________ Ageing rocker, Ted Nugent was held briefly for treatment at an Arizona hospital after an altercation with a six year old Chinese girl, sources say.
It appears that the famously right-wing musician, seen above sporting a wig-mullet and full body beard, had made derogotary comments about the girl's father, a communist party official from Ghangzhou.
Just moments after this photo was taken, the plucky girl, whose name remains unreleased, socked the Nuge with a straight left followed by a roundhouse kick, as she screamed "You don't lock. You don't loll. You illelevant".
Sources say that the Nuge will still be performing his scheduled concert on his poorly attended "American dickhead" tour, tomorrow night. Controversy has followed the tour, which includes live on stage killings of illegal aliens. One unwilling attendee, named Jason, of Cuban - Jewish ancestry, said quite succinctly; "Ted's a fag". - The one and only Graeme
No offense intended, hubs, but I won't touch that piece of crap video game...But, again, VH failed in this department. They are never inclusive and always excluding.
Absolutely none taken, AT. I wholeheartedly agree with you! I was trying to lay the sarcasm on THICK with my last post.
I quite embarrassed by this "buy one, get one" PRE-RELEASE SALE on GH VH, and I've had quite a few friends mention it to me (all those who know how huge a VH fan I've been for the last 25 years).
The AC/DC game didn't do it.
The Aerosmith game didn't do it.
The Metallica game didn't do it.
The Beatles game isn't doing it.
And yet, in the "real world", wouldn't MOST people put VH on the same levels as those bands? (ok, maybe not the Beatles) It seems to be a sad commentary on the perceived drop in relevance VH has taken in the public eye.
Then again, given the last 12 years of this band, who could really blame the public?
You could look at it the other way around as well, that in a down economy, they think that Van Halen has good enough pull to help sell their new flagship product GH5.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Probably not. Most of Van Halen's success was limited to the States. I don't think VH is in the same league as any of the four bands mentioned above. All four of the other bands seem to be more popular on a world wide scale.

Just out of curiousity, what was the reason they quit playing outside the states after Dave left? Minus a few off shows in the Netherlands, etc. and the OPENING for Bon Jovi, they didn't play there at all if my memory serves.
I can only assume because of the lower profit margins?

That's a possibility. However, it's also possible that they don't believe the VH game can sell on its own and they're using this promotion to unload some inventory that they would be stuck with otherwise.
I teach in a music store that's loaded with all of the new EVH products. Everything's prominently displayed: Guitars, straps, picks, pickups, two half-stacks (one black, one white) and lots of sales brochures. The only students of mine who pay attention to the stuff are the adults who grew up with it. The younger kids, those of video-game age, don't recognize it at all.
I'll even point it out to them; "Look, that's Eddie Van Halen's guitar. That's his amp," and they say, "Who? Oh yeah..."
But if I mention AC/DC or Aerosmith, they know exactly who I'm talking about.

Your age is clearly showing with this comment. So is mine dude.
DLR and the 80's mixed like a flammable cocktail. Obviously, you have no idea how it was back then. That a band had to be over the top with musical skills and looks to boot.
and your musical guitar hero is "Ritchie Samboooooring!!!

There is so little material to work with on "New Album Speculation" that after only 1 1/2 pages, we're delving into the ever so interesting topic of how gay Dave may or may not be.
Coming up, more greatest hits:
Sammy's fat and old
Being in two bands is hazardous to your career in VH

EVH: I am always writing, you know. I've already gone to Dave's house four or five times over the last month. I've got so much music. It's just trying to figure out what Dave's into because we haven't written together in a long time. But it's great. It feels like we've always felt in the beginning. But I'm sober, so it's different. He's sober, so it's different. It's a wonderful feeling.
And now with my son in the band, he brings a whole new aspect to it 'cause he's into a whole different trip; even though he loves Van Halen, he listens to all kinds of the current stuff, which I'm really not that up to date 'cause I really don't have the time to listen to anything.
I don't feel a day older when it comes to my approach to music or what gets me off than when I was a teenager. I've always been into different kinds of stuff and when I play I like to play loud. I like my arm hairs to move and I like my body to vibrate 'cause I like the feel of it; I'm still a teenager at heart. My favorite record by AC/DC is 'Powerage.' And 'Down Payment Blues' off that record is my favorite song by them.
