5150 combo Van Halen clip!
Here's a real short VH clip i recorded with my 5150 combo and Marshall cab. I took out Ed's guitar and used only the right channel of the song and added my guitar to the left side. I didn't try to get it exact or anything like that but i have to say i'm blown away how freakin incredible this amp sounds for a VH I-ish type tone in my opinion. I also used less reverb than the album to give more of an upfront true representation of the tone of the amp. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Thanks bro. I used a kramer Striker with a Seymour Duncan 59 pickup. Here's my amp settings: Lead Pre - 5 1/2, Bass - 5 1/2, Mid - just a hair before 4, High - 0 1/2, Resonance - 5 1/2, Presence - hair above 8. High gain input.

Thanks dsale! Also remember the greenback cab sounds different than the combo. I didn't try these settings through the combo speakers so i'm not sure how it will sound. Give it a try anyway and see what happens.

Damn that was really close dude. Really enjoyed that. I also dug your Panama clip too. Been working on that tune alot lately for some reason. I'm trying to get my 5150 II to sound somewhat like the tone you had there.

The key (aside from the playing), is that
1) he's using lower wattage "vintage" speakers
2) the notes in his chords are ringing out clearly due to the low-output pickup.
High Output = low bandwidth
Low Output = High bandwidth
This is especially key when funneling your pickup signal through a dense, "compressing" gain structure like the 5150's.
You really hit a homerun with that one, bud.
Now bust-out some "House of Pain".

Thanks bro! I haven't tried the 5150 II yet. I heard someone say that it's more like the combo than the first 5150 head? Something about the hotter bias setting i think.
