We here at VHLinks have revived an old friend on the site, and brought back our online radio station, Van Halen Un-Radio.
The station's primary focus is to broadcast unreleased recordings from Van Halen. The station began broadcasting in 2000 and ran until late 2004, when it was removed due to the high monthly costs associated with running it.
However, the time seemed right to bring it back, so it returns with all new shows to broadcast, and at a much higher sound quality than before. All tracks are now streamed at 128 kbps to take advantage of the broadband connections that most people now have in their homes. Our old broadcasts only streamed at 56 kbps, and often sounded very poor, especially when you consider that unreleased recordings usually don't sound all that great to begin with.
We intend to keep rotating the shows weekly, and for our first few broadcasts, we're going to be running some of Van Halen's 1978 performances in the United Kingdom. Van Halen hasn't played Europe too many times in the career, and these early 1978 shows really showcase the fire and brilliance that would take the band to super-stardom. Don't miss checking them out, you'll be surprised at the recordings' super sound quality, especially for their age and the fact that VH wasn't that famous yet.
On the actual Un-Radio page, besides being able to connect to the broadcat from there, you can see the current song and show playing, along with the current running playlists. There is also a list of audio programs that we know work well with our broadcast. The currently playing selection is also available on EVERY page on the web site in the left or right hand column, depending on where you are. So you can ALWAYS find out what's on!
We may have some more surprises coming up with Un-Radio, including weekly LIVE shows, and perhaps the chance for people to call in. So stay tuned for that.
