Will It Be A Real Reunion?
Will It Be A Real Reunion?
As reported on Melodicrock.com yesterday, there are rumors that Van Halen are trying to put together a tour in 2007 with David Lee Roth. But who will be playing bass?

Andrew at Melodicrock says, "Negotiations are currently underway to re-unite Van Halen with their original frontman for a tour in 2007 that will take in Amercica and possibly other territories. While nothing in the world of Van Halen is set until the band walk out on stage, I can confirm that negotiations between all parties have been underway for some time, trying to put together a big 2007 re-union tour."

"One would presume the tour will feature classic VH era songs only. What I do not yet know is whether this plan includes exiled bass player Michael Anthony. Perhaps Wolfgang will play bass? I'm told these questions will be answered shortly," says the web site.

Any tour billed as a Van Halen reunion certainly would not be an actual reunion without Michael Anthony on bass. If the band intends to keep any shred of credibility with the constant back-and-forths with singers, it would probably be wise for them to realize that Mike is an integral part of the band. If that needs to be explained to them, then it hardly seems worth it for VH fans to be that excited about something that isn't really a Van Halen reunion. Of course none of this has been confirmed or denied, we are just basing our comments off of what we have read.

This is the third time the band has tried to reform with David Lee Roth at the helm. There is of course the famous MTV Music Awards appearance and the failed reunion in 1996, which the band took a huge credibility hit from. The band tried again to get back with the singer in 2001, but those negotiations fell through as well. The band did reunite with Sammy Hagar in 2004 for a nationwide summer jaunt. But that tour ended on a sour note, and Sammy continues happily to tour with his band, with occassional guest appearances by Michael Anthony, billed as "The Other Half."

VHLinks is very skeptical about this reunion taking place, and sees many obstacles that would have to be hurdled before a tour actually commences. It's also rather disheartening to hear that no new music will accompany this return of Dave, and that the band will only be playing live. While we understand the reasoning behind this, it seems like kind of a waste of a good opportunity to give fans the new music they'd love to hear.

We'll believe it when we see it, and a lot of us who have been following the events of this band closely online for the last decade, won't hold our breaths.

Lots of discussion about the reunion are going on at our message boards. Head over there now to discuss these recent developments with other fans!
